1 이제 판관들이 다스리던 날들에 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그 지역에 기근이 들었더라. 그리고 베들레헴유다의 어떤 남자가 모압 지방 가운데 체류하러 갔으니, 곧 그와 그의 아내와 그의 두 아들들이었더라.
1 Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehemjudah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.
2 그리고 그 남자의 이름은 엘리멜렉이요, 그의 아내의 이름은 나오미요, 그의 두 아들들의 이름은 말론과 킬리온이니, 이들은 베들레헴유다의 에프랏족들이었더라. 그리하여 그들이 모압 지방 가운데 들어가서 거기에 계속 머물렀더라.
2 And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehemjudah. And they came into the country of Moab, and continued there.
3 이후에 나오미의 남편 엘리멜렉이 죽었더라. 그리하여 그녀가 자신의 두 아들들과 함께 남겨졌더라.
3 And Elimelech Naomi's husband died; and she was left, and her two sons.
4 그리고 그들이 모압 여자들 중에서 자신들을 위한 아내들을 취하였으니, 한 명의 이름은 오르파요, 다른 한 명의 이름은 룻이었더라. 그런즉 그들이 그곳에서 약 십 년 동안 거하였더라.
4 And they took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelled there about ten years.
5 그러다가 말론과 킬리온도 모두 죽었더라. 그런즉 그 여자가 자신의 두 아들들과 자신의 남편 뒤에 남았더라.
5 And Mahlon and Chilion died also both of them; and the woman was left of her two sons and her husband.
6 ¶ 그때 그녀가 자신의 며느리들과 함께 일어났으니, 그녀가 모압 지방을 떠나 되돌아가려 함이더라. 이는 주께서 그분의 백성에게 빵을 주심으로써 어떻게 그들을 찾아오셨는지 그녀가 모압 지방에서 들었기 때문이라.
6 ¶ Then she arose with her daughters in law, that she might return from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that the LORD had visited his people in giving them bread.
7 이러한 이유로 그녀가 자신이 지내던 장소에서 나갔으니, 그녀의 두 며느리들도 그녀와 함께하였더라. 그리고 그들은 유다 지역으로 되돌아가는 길을 갔더라.
7 Wherefore she went forth out of the place where she was, and her two daughters in law with her; and they went on the way to return unto the land of Judah.
8 그러자 나오미가 자신의 두 며느리들에게 이같이 말하였더라. “가라. 각자 자기 어머니의 집으로 되돌아가라. 너희가 죽은 자들과 나를 대하였던 것처럼 주께서 너희를 친절하게 대하시기를 바라노라.
8 And Naomi said unto her two daughters in law, Go, return each to her mother's house: the LORD deal kindly with you, as ye have dealt with the dead, and with me.
9 너희가 안식을 찾아서 너희 각자 자기 남편 집 안에 거하는 것을 주께서 너희에게 승인하시기를 바라노라.” 그런 뒤에 그녀가 그들에게 입 맞추었더라. 그러자 그들이 자신들의 목소리를 높여 울었더라.
9 The LORD grant you that ye may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband. Then she kissed them; and they lifted up their voice, and wept.
10 그러면서 그들이 나오미에게 말하기를, “우리가 반드시 당신과 함께 당신의 백성에게로 되돌아가겠나이다.” 하였더라.
10 And they said unto her, Surely we will return with thee unto thy people.
11 그러자 나오미가 이같이 말하였더라. “내 딸들아, 돌아가라. 어찌하여 너희가 나와 함께 가려고 하느냐? 아직 나의 태 안에 어떤 아들들이 더 있어서 그들이 너희의 남편들이 될 수 있겠느냐?
11 And Naomi said, Turn again, my daughters: why will ye go with me? are there yet any more sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?
12 내 딸들아, 돌아가라. 너희의 길을 가라. 이는 내가 남편을 얻기에는 너무 늙었기 때문이라. 설령 내가 ‘나는 소망이 있도다.’라고 말한다 하여도, 설령 내가 오늘 밤이라도 남편을 얻어서 아들들을 낳을 것이라 하여도,
12 Turn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have an husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should have an husband also to night, and should also bear sons;
13 그들이 자랄 때까지 너희가 머물며 그들을 기다리겠느냐? 너희가 그들로 인하여 남편들이 없는 채로 머무르겠느냐? 내 딸들아, 아니니라. 이는 주의 손이 나를 대적하여 나가셨으므로 내가 너희로 인하여 몹시 비통하기 때문이라.”
13 Would ye tarry for them till they were grown? would ye stay for them from having husbands? nay, my daughters; for it grieveth me much for your sakes that the hand of the LORD is gone out against me.
14 그러자 그들이 다시 자신들의 목소리를 높여 울었더라. 이윽고 오르파는 자기 시어머니에게 입을 맞추었더라. 그러나 룻은 그녀에게 밀착하였더라.
14 And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her.
15 이에 나오미가 말하기를, “보라, 너의 동서는 자기 백성과 자기 신들에게로 돌아갔느니라. 너의 동서를 따라 너도 되돌아가라.” 하였더라.
15 And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law.
16 그러자 룻이 이같이 말하였더라. “당신을 떠나라고 하시거나 당신을 뒤따르는 것을 중단하고 되돌아가라고 저에게 간청하지 마소서. 이는 당신께서 가시는 곳에 제가 가겠으며, 당신께서 묵으시는 곳에 제가 묵을 것이기 때문이니이다. 당신의 백성이 나의 백성이 되고, 당신의 하나님이 나의 하나님이 되시리이다.
16 And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
17 당신께서 죽으시는 곳에서 제가 죽겠으며 저는 거기에 묻히겠나이다. 만일 죽음 외에 그 무엇이 당신과 저를 갈라놓는다면, 주께서 저에게 벌을 내리시고, 또한 더 내리시기를 바라나이다.”
17 Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.
18 룻이 나오미와 함께 가려고 확고한 생각을 가지게 된 것을 나오미가 알았을 때 비로소 나오미가 그녀에게 이야기하는 것을 그만두었더라.
18 When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left speaking unto her.
19 ¶ 그렇게 하여 그들 둘은 그들이 베들레헴에 도착할 때까지 갔더라. 그리고 그들이 베들레헴에 왔을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그들로 인하여 도시 전체가 술렁이며 그들이 말하기를, “이 사람이 나오미냐?” 하였더라.
19 ¶ So they two went until they came to Bethlehem. And it came to pass, when they were come to Bethlehem, that all the city was moved about them, and they said, Is this Naomi?
20 그러자 나오미가 그들에게 이같이 말하였더라. “나를 나오미라 부르지 말고, 나를 마라라 부르라. 이는 전능하신 분께서 나에게 아주 모질게 대하셨기 때문이라.
20 And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me.
21 내가 충만한 가운데 나갔는데 주께서는 나를 빈손으로 집에 다시 데려오셨도다. 주께서 나를 대적하여 증언하셨고 전능하신 분께서 나에게 고난을 주셨거늘, 그렇다면 어찌하여 너희가 나를 나오미라고 부르느냐?”
21 I went out full, and the LORD hath brought me home again empty: why then call ye me Naomi, seeing the LORD hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted me?
22 이처럼 나오미가 되돌아왔고, 그녀와 함께 그녀의 며느리인 모압족 여인 룻이 되돌아왔으니, 그녀가 모압 지방에서 되돌아왔더라. 그리하여 그들이 보리 수확 초기에 베들레헴으로 왔더라.
22 So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter in law, with her, which returned out of the country of Moab: and they came to Bethlehem in the beginning of barley harvest.
