1 이제 사울의 죽음 이후 다윗이 아말렉족들을 살육하고 되돌아왔을 때요, 다윗이 지클락에 이틀 동안 거하였을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니,
1 Now it came to pass after the death of Saul, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had abode two days in Ziklag;
2 곧 셋째 날에 이러한 일이 있었으니, 보라, 사울의 진영에서 한 남자가 왔는데 그의 옷은 찢어졌고 그의 머리 위에는 흙이 있었더라. 그리고 그가 다윗에게 왔을 때 이와 같은 일이 있었으니, 그가 땅에 엎드려 경의를 표하였더라.
2 It came even to pass on the third day, that, behold, a man came out of the camp from Saul with his clothes rent, and earth upon his head: and so it was, when he came to David, that he fell to the earth, and did obeisance.
3 그러자 다윗이 그에게 말하기를, “너는 어디에서 오느냐?” 하였더라. 그러자 그가 그에게 말하기를, “이스라엘의 진영에서 제가 탈출하였나이다.” 하였더라.
3 And David said unto him, From whence comest thou? And he said unto him, Out of the camp of Israel am I escaped.
4 이에 다윗이 그에게 말하기를, “일이 어떻게 되었느냐? 내가 너에게 간구하노니, 나에게 알려 달라.” 하였더라. 그러자 그가 대답하기를, “그 백성이 전투에서 도망하였고 백성 중 다수가 또한 쓰러지고 죽었나이다. 그리고 사울과 그의 아들 요나단도 죽었나이다.” 하였더라.
4 And David said unto him, How went the matter? I pray thee, tell me. And he answered, That the people are fled from the battle, and many of the people also are fallen and dead; and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also.
5 그러자 다윗이 자신에게 알린 그 청년에게 말하기를, “사울과 그의 아들 요나단이 죽은 것을 너는 어떻게 아느냐?” 하였더라.
5 And David said unto the young man that told him, How knowest thou that Saul and Jonathan his son be dead?
6 이에 그에게 알린 청년이 이같이 말하였더라. “제가 우연히 길보아산 위에 있었는데, 보소서, 사울이 자신의 창에 기대어 있었는데, 보소서, 병거들과 기병들이 그를 맹렬히 뒤쫓았나이다.
6 And the young man that told him said, As I happened by chance upon mount Gilboa, behold, Saul leaned upon his spear; and, lo, the chariots and horsemen followed hard after him.
7 그리고 그가 자기 뒤를 바라보았을 때 그가 저를 보고는 저를 불렀나이다. 그런즉 제가 대답하기를, ‘제가 여기 있나이다.’ 하였으니,
7 And when he looked behind him, he saw me, and called unto me. And I answered, Here am I.
8 그가 저에게 말하기를, ‘너는 누구냐?’ 하였나이다. 이에 제가 그에게 대답하기를, ‘저는 아말렉족이니이다.’ 하였는데
8 And he said unto me, Who art thou? And I answered him, I am an Amalekite.
9 그가 저에게 다시 말하기를, ‘내가 너에게 간구하노니, 내 위에 서서 나를 살해하라. 이는 심한 고통이 나에게 임하였기 때문이요, 나의 생명이 아직 온전히 내 안에 남아 있는 까닭이라.’ 하였나이다.
9 He said unto me again, Stand, I pray thee, upon me, and slay me: for anguish is come upon me, because my life is yet whole in me.
10 그렇게 하여 제가 그의 위에 서서 그를 살해하였으니, 그가 쓰러진 뒤에 그가 살 수 없다는 것을 제가 확신하였기 때문이니이다. 그리하여 제가 그의 머리 위에 있던 왕관과 그의 팔에 있던 팔찌를 취하여 여기 나의 주께 그것들을 가져왔나이다.”
10 So I stood upon him, and slew him, because I was sure that he could not live after that he was fallen: and I took the crown that was upon his head, and the bracelet that was on his arm, and have brought them hither unto my lord.
11 그때 다윗이 자기 옷을 붙잡고 그것들을 찢었더라. 그러자 그와 함께 있던 모든 사람들도 이와 같이 하였더라.
11 Then David took hold on his clothes, and rent them; and likewise all the men that were with him:
12 그리고 그들이 사울과 그의 아들 요나단과 주의 백성과 이스라엘 집을 위하여 애통해하며 울고 저녁때까지 금식하였더라. 이는 그들이 칼에 쓰러졌기 때문이라.
12 And they mourned, and wept, and fasted until even, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of the LORD, and for the house of Israel; because they were fallen by the sword.
13 ¶ 그리고 다윗이 자신에게 알린 그 청년에게 말하기를, “너는 어디 출신이냐?” 하였더라. 그러자 그가 대답하기를, “저는 아말렉족으로 타국인의 아들이니이다.” 하였더라.
13 ¶ And David said unto the young man that told him, Whence art thou? And he answered, I am the son of a stranger, an Amalekite.
14 이에 다윗이 그에게 말하기를, “어떻게 너는 네 손을 앞으로 뻗어 주의 기름 부음 받은 자를 멸하는 것을 무서워하지 아니하였느냐?” 하였더라.
14 And David said unto him, How wast thou not afraid to stretch forth thine hand to destroy the LORD'S anointed?
15 그러고 나서 다윗이 청년들 중 한 명을 불러 말하기를, “가까이 와서 그를 덮치라.” 하였더라. 이에 그가 그를 치니 그가 죽었더라.
15 And David called one of the young men, and said, Go near, and fall upon him. And he smote him that he died.
16 그러자 다윗이 그에게 말하기를, “너의 피가 너의 머리 위에 있기를 바라노라. 이는 너의 입이 너에 대하여 증언하며 말하기를, ‘내가 주의 기름 부음 받은 자를 살해하였나이다.’ 하였기 때문이라.” 하였더라.
16 And David said unto him, Thy blood be upon thy head; for thy mouth hath testified against thee, saying, I have slain the LORD'S anointed.
17 ¶ 이후에 다윗이 이런 애가로 사울과 그의 아들 요나단을 애도하였더라.
17 ¶ And David lamented with this lamentation over Saul and over Jonathan his son:
18 (또한 그가 그들에게 분부하여 유다 자녀들에게 활의 사용법을 가르치게 하였더라. 보라, 야셸의 책 안에 그것이 기록되어 있느니라.)
18 (Also he bade them teach the children of Judah the use of the bow: behold, it is written in the book of Jasher.)
19 이스라엘의 아름다움이 너의 높은 곳들 위에서 살해당하였도다. 어떻게 막강한 자들이 쓰러졌는고!
19 The beauty of Israel is slain upon thy high places: how are the mighty fallen!
20 그것을 가드에 알리지 말며, 그것을 아스클론의 거리들 가운데 공표하지 말라. 이는 필리스티아인들의 딸들이 크게 기뻐할까 함이요, 할례받지 않은 자들의 딸들이 승리를 자축할까 함이라.
20 Tell it not in Gath, publish it not in the streets of Askelon; lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph.
21 너희, 길보아의 산들아, 너희 위에 이슬도 없고 비도 없고 제물들을 내는 들판도 없을지어다. 이는 막강한 자의 방패, 곧 사울의 방패가 마치 그가 기름으로 부음을 받지 아니한 것같이 무참히 내버려졌기 때문이라.
21 Ye mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew, neither let there be rain, upon you, nor fields of offerings: for there the shield of the mighty is vilely cast away, the shield of Saul, as though he had not been anointed with oil.
22 살해당한 자들의 피와 막강한 자의 지방으로부터 요나단의 활이 뒤로 돌이키지 아니하였고 사울의 칼이 허무하게 되돌아오지 아니하였도다.
22 From the blood of the slain, from the fat of the mighty, the bow of Jonathan turned not back, and the sword of Saul returned not empty.
23 사울과 요나단은 그들의 생애들에서도 사랑스럽고 기쁨을 주더니, 그들은 자신들의 죽음에서도 나누어지지 아니하였도다. 그들은 독수리들보다 더 빨랐으며, 그들은 사자들보다 더 강하였도다.
23 Saul and Jonathan were lovely and pleasant in their lives, and in their death they were not divided: they were swifter than eagles, they were stronger than lions.
24 너희, 이스라엘의 딸들아, 사울을 위하여 울라. 사울은 너희를 주홍색 옷과 그 밖의 큰 즐거움들로 옷 입힌 자요, 사울은 너희의 의관 위에 금장식들을 달아 준 자로다.
24 Ye daughters of Israel, weep over Saul, who clothed you in scarlet, with other delights, who put on ornaments of gold upon your apparel.
25 어떻게 그 막강한 자들이 전투하는 가운데 쓰러졌는가! 오, 요나단이여, 그대가 그대의 높은 곳들에서 살해당하였도다.
25 How are the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle! O Jonathan, thou wast slain in thine high places.
26 나의 형제, 요나단이여, 나는 그대로 인하여 괴롭도다. 그대는 나를 몹시 기쁘게 하였도다. 그대의 사랑은 나에게 경이로웠으니, 여자들의 사랑을 초월하였노라.
26 I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan: very pleasant hast thou been unto me: thy love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women.
27 어떻게 막강한 자들이 쓰러졌으며 전쟁 무기들이 망가졌는가!
27 How are the mighty fallen, and the weapons of war perished!
