1 그런데 공교롭게도 거기에는 벨리알의 사람 한 명이 있었으니, 그의 이름은 셰바로, 비크리의 아들이며 베냐민족이었더라. 그리고 그가 한 나팔을 불며 말하기를, “우리는 다윗 안에서 지분이 없으며 우리는 이새의 아들 안에 유산도 없도다. 오, 이스라엘아, 모든 사람은 저마다 자기 천막들로 향하라.” 하였더라.
1 And there happened to be there a man of Belial, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjamite: and he blew a trumpet, and said, We have no part in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to his tents, O Israel.
2 그렇게 하여 이스라엘의 모든 사람이 저마다 다윗을 따르는 데서 떠나 올라가서 비크리의 아들 셰바를 따랐더라. 그러나 유다 사람들은 요르단에서부터 예루살렘에 이르기까지 그들의 왕에게 밀착하였더라.
2 So every man of Israel went up from after David, and followed Sheba the son of Bichri: but the men of Judah clave unto their king, from Jordan even to Jerusalem.
3 ¶ 이후에 다윗이 예루살렘에 있는 자기 집에 이르렀더라. 그리고 왕은 자기 첩들인 열 명의 여자들, 곧 그가 집을 지키라고 남겨 두었던 자들을 이동시켜서 그들을 별실 안에 두고 그들을 먹였으나 그들에게 들어가지는 아니하였더라. 그렇게 하여 그들은 자신들이 죽는 날까지 과부살이를 하며 갇혀 있었더라.
3 ¶ And David came to his house at Jerusalem; and the king took the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in ward, and fed them, but went not in unto them. So they were shut up unto the day of their death, living in widowhood.
4 ¶ 그때 왕이 아마사에게 말하기를, “삼 일 안에 나에게로 유다 사람들을 결집시키라. 그런 다음에 너도 여기에 참석하라.” 하였더라.
4 ¶ Then said the king to Amasa, Assemble me the men of Judah within three days, and be thou here present.
5 그렇게 하여 아마사가 유다 사람들을 결집시키러 갔더라. 그러나 그가 왕이 그에게 지정한 정해진 시간보다 더 오래 지체하였더라.
5 So Amasa went to assemble the men of Judah: but he tarried longer than the set time which he had appointed him.
6 이에 다윗이 아비샤이에게 말하기를, “이제 비크리의 아들 셰바가 압살롬이 끼친 것보다 더 큰 해를 우리에게 끼치리라. 너는 네 주의 종들을 데리고 그를 추격하라. 그가 방비가 강화된 도시들로 옮겨 가서 우리에게서 벗어날까 함이라.” 하였더라.
6 And David said to Abishai, Now shall Sheba the son of Bichri do us more harm than did Absalom: take thou thy lord's servants, and pursue after him, lest he get him fenced cities, and escape us.
7 그러자 요압의 사람들과 크렛족들과 펠렛족들과 모든 막강한 남자들이 그를 따라 나갔더라. 그리하여 그들이 비크리의 아들 셰바를 추격하려고 예루살렘에서 나갔더라.
7 And there went out after him Joab's men, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and all the mighty men: and they went out of Jerusalem, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.
8 그들이 기브온에 있는 커다란 돌에 당도하였을 때, 아마사가 그들 앞에 갔더라. 당시에 요압이 입었던 그의 의복이 요압에게 둘렸고 그 위에는 칼 한 자루가 그것의 칼집 안에 꽂혀 허리띠에 고정된 채 그의 허리에 있었더라. 그리고 그가 가는 동안 칼이 밖으로 빠져나왔더라.
8 When they were at the great stone which is in Gibeon, Amasa went before them. And Joab's garment that he had put on was girded unto him, and upon it a girdle with a sword fastened upon his loins in the sheath thereof; and as he went forth it fell out.
9 이윽고 요압이 아마사에게 말하기를, “나의 형제여, 너는 건강하냐?” 하였더라. 그러면서 요압이 그에게 입을 맞추려고 오른손으로 수염을 잡아 아마사를 당겼더라.
9 And Joab said to Amasa, Art thou in health, my brother? And Joab took Amasa by the beard with the right hand to kiss him.
10 그러나 아마사는 요압의 손에 있던 칼에 주의하지 아니하였더라. 그렇게 하여 요압이 그것으로 그의 다섯 번째 갈비뼈를 쳤더니, 그의 창자가 땅바닥으로 흘러나왔고 그를 다시 내리치지 아니하였어도 그가 죽었더라. 요압과 그의 형제 아비샤이가 이처럼 비크리의 아들 셰바를 추격하였더라.
10 But Amasa took no heed to the sword that was in Joab's hand: so he smote him therewith in the fifth rib, and shed out his bowels to the ground, and struck him not again; and he died. So Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the son of Bichri.
11 그리고 요압의 사람들 중 한 명이 그의 곁에 서서 말하기를, “요압을 지지하는 자와 다윗을 위하는 자, 그는 요압을 따라갈지어다.” 하였더라.
11 And one of Joab's men stood by him, and said, He that favoureth Joab, and he that is for David, let him go after Joab.
12 그런데 아마사는 대로 한복판에서 피범벅이 되어 뒹굴었더라. 그런즉 그 남자가 모든 백성이 가만히 선 것을 보았을 때 그는 아마사를 대로에서 들판으로 옮기고 그의 위로 천을 던졌으니, 각자 그의 곁으로 와서 가만히 선 것을 그가 보았을 때 그리하였더라.
12 And Amasa wallowed in blood in the midst of the highway. And when the man saw that all the people stood still, he removed Amasa out of the highway into the field, and cast a cloth upon him, when he saw that every one that came by him stood still.
13 그가 대로 밖으로 옮겨지자 모든 백성이 요압을 따라 계속 가서 비크리의 아들 셰바를 추격하였더라.
13 When he was removed out of the highway, all the people went on after Joab, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.
14 ¶ 그리고 그가 이스라엘의 모든 지파들을 두루 다니면서 아벨에 이르렀고 벧마아카와 모든 브리족들에게로 향하였더라. 그런즉 그들도 함께 모여 그를 따라갔더라.
14 ¶ And he went through all the tribes of Israel unto Abel, and to Bethmaachah, and all the Berites: and they were gathered together, and went also after him.
15 그리고 그들이 와서 벧마아카의 아벨에서 그를 포위하였고, 그들은 그 도시를 대적하여 둑을 쌓아 올렸으니, 그것이 참호 안에 서 있었더라. 그리하여 요압과 함께한 모든 백성이 성벽을 강타하여 그것을 무너뜨리려 하였더라.
15 And they came and besieged him in Abel of Bethmaachah, and they cast up a bank against the city, and it stood in the trench: and all the people that were with Joab battered the wall, to throw it down.
16 ¶ 그때 한 지혜로운 여자가 도시에서 나와서 외치며 말하기를, “들으소서, 들으소서. 제가 당신들께 간구하오니, 요압에게 ‘이리로 가까이 와서 제가 당신과 이야기할 수 있게 하소서.’ 하고 말하여 주소서.” 하였더라.
16 ¶ Then cried a wise woman out of the city, Hear, hear; say, I pray you, unto Joab, Come near hither, that I may speak with thee.
17 그리하여 그가 그녀에게 가까이 오자 그 여자가 말하기를, “당신께서는 요압이시니이까?” 하였더라. 그러자 그가 대답하기를, “내가 그니라.” 하였더라. 그때 그녀가 그에게 말하기를, “당신의 몸종의 말들을 들어 주소서.” 하였고 그가 대답하기를, “내가 듣고 있노라.” 하였더라.
17 And when he was come near unto her, the woman said, Art thou Joab? And he answered, I am he. Then she said unto him, Hear the words of thine handmaid. And he answered, I do hear.
18 그때 그 여자가 이같이 일러 말하였더라. “옛적에 그들이 말하기를, ‘그들은 반드시 아벨에서 조언을 구할지니라.’ 하고 이야기하곤 하였나이다. 그런즉 그들은 그렇게 그 사안을 종결지었나이다.
18 Then she spake, saying, They were wont to speak in old time, saying, They shall surely ask counsel at Abel: and so they ended the matter.
19 저는 이스라엘에서 평화롭고 신실한 자들 중 한 명이니이다. 당신께서는 이스라엘에서 한 도시와 한 어머니를 멸하는 것을 모색하고 계시나이다. 어찌하여 당신께서 주의 유산을 삼켜 버리려 하시나이까?”
19 I am one of them that are peaceable and faithful in Israel: thou seekest to destroy a city and a mother in Israel: why wilt thou swallow up the inheritance of the LORD?
20 그러자 요압이 대답하여 이같이 말하였더라. “결코 그렇지 아니하니, 결코 내가 그렇게 되기를 원하지 아니하니라. 내가 삼켜 버리거나 멸하려는 것이 아니니라.
20 And Joab answered and said, Far be it, far be it from me, that I should swallow up or destroy.
21 그 사안이 그렇지 아니하도다. 그러나 에프라임산에 속한 한 남자, 곧 이름이 셰바인 비크리의 아들이 왕을 대적하여 자기 손을 들어 올렸으니, 곧 다윗을 대적하였노라. 오로지 그만 넘기라. 그리하면 내가 도시에서 떠나겠노라.” 그러자 그 여자가 요압에게 말하기를, “보소서, 그의 머리가 성벽 너머로 당신께 던져지리이다.” 하였더라.
21 The matter is not so: but a man of mount Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, hath lifted up his hand against the king, even against David: deliver him only, and I will depart from the city. And the woman said unto Joab, Behold, his head shall be thrown to thee over the wall.
22 그때 그 여자가 그녀의 지혜로 온 백성에게 갔더라. 이에 그들이 비크리의 아들인 셰바의 머리를 베어서 그것을 요압에게 내던졌더라. 그러자 그가 한 나팔을 불었으니, 그들이 도시에서 퇴각하였고, 모든 사람은 저마다 자기 천막으로 향하였더라. 그리고 요압은 예루살렘으로 되돌아가서 왕에게로 나아갔더라.
22 Then the woman went unto all the people in her wisdom. And they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and cast it out to Joab. And he blew a trumpet, and they retired from the city, every man to his tent. And Joab returned to Jerusalem unto the king.
23 ¶ 이제 요압은 이스라엘의 모든 군대를 다스렸으며, 여호야다의 아들 브나야는 크렛족들을 다스리고 펠렛족들을 다스렸더라.
23 ¶ Now Joab was over all the host of Israel: and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and over the Pelethites:
24 그리고 아도람은 공세를 관리하였고, 아힐룻의 아들 여호샤팟은 역사 기록관이었더라.
24 And Adoram was over the tribute: and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder:
25 그리고 셰와는 서기관이었고, 사독과 아비아달은 제사장들이었더라.
25 And Sheva was scribe: and Zadok and Abiathar were the priests:
26 그리고 야일족인 이라도 다윗 주위에서 한 주요 치리자였더라.
26 And Ira also the Jairite was a chief ruler about David.
