1 하칼리야의 아들 느헤미야의 말들이라. 제이십년 키슬루 월에 내가 슈샨궁에 있을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니,
1 The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah. And it came to pass in the month Chisleu, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace,
2 나의 형제들 중 한 명인 하나니가 왔는데, 그와 유다의 어떤 남자들이 함께 왔더라. 그런즉 탈출했던 유대인들, 곧 포로 생활로부터 떠나 남겨진 자들에 관하여, 또 예루살렘에 관하여 내가 그들에게 물었더라.
2 That Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, which were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.
3 그러자 그들이 나에게 말하기를, “포로 생활로부터 떠나 남겨진 거기, 속주 안에 있는 남은 자들은 크나큰 고난과 비방 가운데 있나이다. 예루살렘 성벽도 무너져 내리고 그곳의 성문들도 불에 타나이다.” 하였더라.
3 And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.
4 ¶ 그런즉 내가 이 말들을 들었을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 내가 주저앉아서 울고 며칠 동안 애곡하며 금식하고 하늘의 하나님 앞에서 기도하며
4 ¶ And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven,
5 이같이 말씀드렸더라. “오, 하늘의 주 하나님이여, 제가 당신께 간청하오니, 그분을 사랑하고 그분의 명령들을 준수하는 자들에게 언약과 자비를 지키시는 위대하시고 공포스러우신 하나님이여,
5 And said, I beseech thee, O LORD God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:
6 이제 당신의 귀로 하여금 열중하게 하시고 당신의 눈들이 열리게 하시어 당신의 종의 기도를 친히 들어 주소서. 이것은 제가 지금 당신의 종들인 이스라엘 자녀들을 위하여 주야로 당신 앞에서 기도하며 이스라엘 자녀들의 죄들, 곧 저희가 당신을 대적하여 지은 죄들을 자백하는 것이니이다. 저와 제 아버지의 집이 모두 죄를 지었나이다.
6 Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father's house have sinned.
7 저희가 아주 부패한 태도로 당신을 대하였고 당신께서 당신의 종 모세에게 명령하신 명령들도, 규례들도, 공의로운 법규들도 지키지 아니하였나이다.
7 We have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the judgments, which thou commandedst thy servant Moses.
8 제가 당신께 간청하오니, 당신께서 당신의 종 모세에게 명령하신 말씀을 기억하소서. 말씀하시기를, ‘만일 너희가 불법을 행한다면 나는 너희를 민족들 사이로 널리 흩겠노라.
8 Remember, I beseech thee, the word that thou commandedst thy servant Moses, saying, If ye transgress, I will scatter you abroad among the nations:
9 그러나 만일 너희가 나에게 돌이키고 나의 명령들을 지키며 그것들을 행한다면, 비록 너희 중 하늘의 맨 끝부분으로 쫓겨난 자들이 있을지라도, 그럼에도 내가 그들을 거기서부터 모을 것이요, 내가 나의 이름을 거기에 세우려고 선택한 장소로 그들을 데려오겠노라.’ 하셨나이다.
9 But if ye turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there.
10 이제 이들은 당신의 종들이요, 당신의 백성이오니, 당신께서 당신의 위대한 권능과 당신의 강한 손으로 구속하신 자들이니이다.
10 Now these are thy servants and thy people, whom thou hast redeemed by thy great power, and by thy strong hand.
11 오, 주여, 제가 당신께 간청하오니, 지금 당신의 종의 기도에, 또 당신의 이름을 두려워하기를 열망하는 당신의 종들의 기도에 당신의 귀로 하여금 열중하게 하소서. 그리고 제가 당신께 간구하오니, 이날 당신의 종을 형통하게 하시고 이 사람의 목전에서 그에게 자비를 허락하여 주소서.” 이는 내가 왕의 잔을 담당하는 자였기 때문이라.
11 O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king's cupbearer.
