1 이런 이유로 우리가 더 이상 참을 수 없어서 아테네에 우리만 남는 것이 좋다고 생각하였느니라.
1 Wherefore when we could no longer forbear, we thought it good to be left at Athens alone;
2 그런즉 너희를 확고히 세우기 위하여 또 너희의 믿음에 관해 너희를 위로하기 위하여 우리의 형제요, 하나님의 사역자요, 그리스도의 복음 안에서 우리의 동료 일꾼인 디모데우스를 보냈으니,
2 And sent Timotheus, our brother, and minister of God, and our fellowlabourer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith:
3 아무도 이 고난들로 흔들리지 않게 하려 함이라. 이는 우리가 고난들을 받도록 임명되었음을 너희 자신이 알기 때문이요,
3 That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto.
4 진실로 우리가 너희와 함께 있었을 때 우리는 미리 너희에게 우리가 환란을 겪어야 한다고 알렸기 때문이라. 바로 그처럼 이러한 일이 일어난 것이니, 너희도 아느니라.
4 For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know.
5 이런 까닭에 내가 더 이상 참을 수 없었을 때 너희의 믿음을 알아보고자 내가 사람을 보내었으니, 그 시험하는 자가 어떤 방식으로든 너희를 시험하여 우리의 수고가 헛된 것이 되지 않도록 하려 함이라.
5 For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour be in vain.
6 그러나 최근에 디모데우스가 너희에게서 우리에게로 와서 우리에게 너희의 믿음과 성도의 사랑에 관한 좋은 소식들을 가져왔으니, 너희가 항상 우리에 대해 잘 기억하고 있으며, 우리도 너희를 보고 싶어 하듯이 너희도 우리를 매우 간절히 보고자 한다는 것이라.
6 But now when Timotheus came from you unto us, and brought us good tidings of your faith and charity, and that ye have good remembrance of us always, desiring greatly to see us, as we also to see you:
7 그러므로 형제들아, 우리의 모든 고난과 괴로움에서 너희의 믿음으로 인하여 우리가 너희에 대해 위로를 받았느니라.
7 Therefore, brethren, we were comforted over you in all our affliction and distress by your faith:
8 이는 만일 너희가 주 안에서 굳게 선다면, 이제 우리가 살기 때문이라.
8 For now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord.
9 그런즉 너희로 인하여, 우리 하나님 앞에서 우리가 너희로 인해 즐거워하는 그 모든 즐거움으로 인하여 우리가 하나님께 어떠한 감사들을 다시 돌려드릴 수 있겠느냐?
9 For what thanks can we render to God again for you, for all the joy wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God;
10 우리가 밤낮으로 심히 기도하고 있는 것은 너희의 얼굴을 보려 함이요, 너희 믿음에서 부족한 것을 완전하게 하려 함이라.
10 Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith?
11 이제 하나님 자신이신 우리 아버지와 우리 주 예수 그리스도께서 우리의 길을 너희에게 이르도록 인도하시길 기원하노라.
11 Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you.
12 그리고 우리가 너희를 향하여 행하는 바로 그와 같이, 주께서 너희로 하여금 서로를 향한, 또 모든 사람들을 향한 사랑에 있어서 성장하고 넘치게 해 주시며,
12 And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:
13 그분께서 너희의 마음을 끝까지 확고하게 세우시사 우리 주 예수 그리스도께서 그분의 모든 성도들과 함께 오실 때 하나님, 곧 우리 아버지 앞에서 거룩함 가운데 비난받을 것이 없도록 해 주시기를 기원하노라.
13 To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.
