1 사랑받는 자들아, 내가 이제 이 두 번째 서신을 너희에게 쓰노라. 내가 두 서신으로 기억을 통하여 너희의 순수한 생각들을 일깨우노니,
1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
2 이는 거룩한 예언자들에 의해 미리 언급된 말씀들에 관하여 그리고 주 곧 구원자의 사도들인 우리의 명령에 관하여 너희로 하여금 명심하게 하려 함이라.
2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
3 우선 이것을 알지니, 마지막 날들에 그들 자신의 정욕들을 따라 살아가는 비웃는 자들이 와서
3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4 말하기를, “그분께서 오신다는 약속이 어디에 있느냐? 이는 조상들이 잠든 이래로 모든 것들이 창조의 시작부터 그들이 존재했던 대로 지속되기 때문이라.” 하리라.
4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
5 이는 하나님의 말씀에 의하여 예로부터 하늘들이 있었다는 것과 땅이 물 밖에 서 있었다가 물 안에 있었다는 이것에 관하여 그들이 일부러 무지하려 하였기 때문이라.
5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
6 그때 있던 세상은 물이 넘쳐 흐르게 되어 물에 의하여 멸망하였도다.
6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
7 그러나 지금 있는 하늘들과 땅은 동일한 말씀에 의하여 간수되고 있으니, 불경건한 사람들의 심판과 파멸의 날을 대비하여 불살라지기 위해 간직되어 있느니라.
7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
8 그러나 사랑받는 자들아, 주께는 하루가 천 년 같고 천 년이 하루 같다는 이 한 가지에 관하여 무지하게 되지 말라.
8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9 주께서는 어떤 사람들이 더디다고 여기는 것처럼 그분의 약속에 관하여 더디신 것이 아니라, 오직 우리를 향하여 오래 참으시어 아무도 멸망하지 아니하고 다만 모두가 회개에 이르기를 원하시는도다.
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
10 그러나 주의 날이 밤에 도둑같이 임하리라. 그날에는 하늘들이 커다란 굉음과 함께 사라져 버릴 것이요, 원소들이 뜨거운 열로 녹을 것이요, 땅과 그 안에 있는 행위들도 더불어 불타 버릴 것이라.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
11 그렇다면 이 모든 것들이 분해될 것이므로 너희가 모든 거룩한 생활 방식과 경건함 가운데 마땅히 어떤 부류의 인물들이 되어야겠느냐?
11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
12 하나님의 날이 오는 것을 고대하고 서두르라. 그날에 하늘들이 불붙어 분해될 것이요, 원소들은 뜨거운 열로 녹을 것이라.
12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
13 그럼에도 불구하고 우리는 그분의 약속에 따라 의가 그 안에 거하는 새 하늘들과 새 땅을 고대하는도다.
13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
14 이러한 이유로 사랑받는 자들아, 너희가 그러한 것들을 고대하고 있으니, 점 없고 흠 없이 너희가 평안 가운데 그분께 발견되도록 부지런히 노력하라.
14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
15 그리하여 우리 주의 오래 참으심이 구원인 줄로 간주하라. 바로 우리의 사랑을 받는 형제 바울도 그에게 주어진 지혜에 따라 너희에게 그와 같이 기록하였느니라.
15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
16 또한 그의 모든 서신들에 있는 것과 같으니, 그 안에서 이런 것들에 관하여 말하였느니라. 그의 서신들에는 이해되기 힘든 것들이 일부 있는데, 배우지 못하고 불안정한 자들이 다른 성경 기록들을 왜곡한 것같이 그들이 그의 서신들도 왜곡하여 그들 자신의 멸망에 이르느니라.
16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
17 그러므로 너희, 사랑받는 자들아, 너희가 이런 것들을 미리 알기에 너희도 사악한 자들의 과오에 이끌려 너희 자신의 확고함에서 떨어지지 않도록 경계하라.
17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
18 그러나 은혜 안에서와 우리 주, 곧 구원자 예수 그리스도의 지식 안에서 성장하라. 그분께 영광이 지금뿐 아니라 영원에도 있기를 바라노라. 아멘.
18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
