1 이런 일들이 있은 후에 아하수에루스왕이 아각족 함므다다의 아들 하만을 높였고 그를 승진시켰으며 그의 자리를 그의 곁에 있었던 모든 통치자들 위에 세웠더라.
1 After these things did king Ahasuerus promote Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes that were with him.
2 그러자 왕의 대문 안에 있었던 왕의 모든 종들이 절하였고 하만에게 경의를 표하였더라. 이는 왕이 그에 관하여 그렇게 명령하였기 때문이라. 그러나 모르드캐는 절하지 아니하였고 그에게 경의를 표하지도 아니하였더라.
2 And all the king's servants, that were in the king's gate, bowed, and reverenced Haman: for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence.
3 그때 왕의 대문 안에 있었던 왕의 종들이 모르드캐에게 말하기를, “어찌하여 너는 왕의 명령을 위반하느냐?” 하였더라.
3 Then the king's servants, which were in the king's gate, said unto Mordecai, Why transgressest thou the king's commandment?
4 이제 그들이 매일 그에게 이야기하였는데도 그가 그들에게 경청하지 아니하였을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그들이 하만에게 알려 모르드캐의 사정들이 유효할지를 보고자 하였더라. 이는 그가 그들에게 자신이 유대인임을 알렸기 때문이라.
4 Now it came to pass, when they spake daily unto him, and he hearkened not unto them, that they told Haman, to see whether Mordecai's matters would stand: for he had told them that he was a Jew.
5 그리고 하만이 모르드캐가 절하지도 그에게 경의를 표하지도 아니하였다는 것을 알자 그때 하만이 격노로 가득 찼더라.
5 And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence, then was Haman full of wrath.
6 그리고 그가 모르드캐 혼자에게만 두 손을 대는 것을 경멸스럽게 생각하였더라. 이는 그들이 그에게 모르드캐의 백성을 알렸기 때문이라. 이러한 이유로 하만이 아하수에루스의 왕국 전체에 걸쳐 있는 모든 유대인들, 곧 모르드캐의 백성을 멸하는 것을 모색하였더라.
6 And he thought scorn to lay hands on Mordecai alone; for they had shewed him the people of Mordecai: wherefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even the people of Mordecai.
7 ¶ 아하수에루스왕의 제십이년 첫째 달, 즉 니산 월에 그들이 하만 앞에서 날에서 날까지 달에서 달까지 푸르, 즉 제비를 던졌더니, 열두째 달, 즉 아달 월에 이르렀더라.
7 ¶ In the first month, that is, the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of king Ahasuerus, they cast Pur, that is, the lot, before Haman from day to day, and from month to month, to the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar.
8 ¶ 그리고 하만이 아하수에루스왕에게 이같이 말하였더라. “어떤 백성 하나가 널리 퍼져 있고 당신의 왕국의 모든 속주들에 있는 백성 사이에 흩어져 있는데 그들의 법들은 모든 백성들과 상이하나이다. 또한 그들은 왕의 법들을 지키지 아니하나이다. 그러므로 그들을 용납하는 것은 왕께 유익이 되지 아니하나이다.
8 ¶ And Haman said unto king Ahasuerus, There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of thy kingdom; and their laws are diverse from all people; neither keep they the king's laws: therefore it is not for the king's profit to suffer them.
9 만일 그것이 왕을 기쁘게 해 드린다면 그들이 멸망되는 것이 기록되는 것을 허락하소서. 그리하면 제가 그 일의 책무를 맡은 자들의 손에 은 일만 달란트를 지불하여 그것을 왕의 보물 창고들 안으로 들이겠나이다.”
9 If it please the king, let it be written that they may be destroyed: and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver to the hands of those that have the charge of the business, to bring it into the king's treasuries.
10 그러자 왕이 그의 반지를 그의 손에서 빼서 그것을 유대인들의 원수인 아각족 함므다다의 아들 하만에게 주었더라.
10 And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it unto Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the Jews' enemy.
11 그리고 왕이 하만에게 말하기를, “은이 너에게 주어지고 그 백성도 그러하니, 너에게 보기 좋은 대로 그들에게 행하라.” 하였더라.
11 And the king said unto Haman, The silver is given to thee, the people also, to do with them as it seemeth good to thee.
12 그때 왕의 서기관들이 첫째 달 십삼 일에 부름을 받았으며 하만이 왕의 부관들에게 명령한 모든 것에 따라 기록되었으니, 각각의 속주들을 다스리던 총독들에게 기록되었고, 각각의 속주들에 속한 각각의 백성의 치리자들에게 그곳의 글에 따라 기록되었으며, 각각의 백성에게 그들의 언어에 따라 기록되었더라. 그것은 아하수에루스왕의 이름으로 기록되었고 왕의 반지로 인장이 찍혔더라.
12 Then were the king's scribes called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and there was written according to all that Haman had commanded unto the king's lieutenants, and to the governors that were over every province, and to the rulers of every people of every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language; in the name of king Ahasuerus was it written, and sealed with the king's ring.
13 그리고 그 편지들이 전달자들을 통하여 왕의 모든 속주들에 보내졌으니, 젊은이와 늙은이, 어린아이들과 여자들을 막론하고 모든 유대인들을 한날, 곧 아달 월인 열두째 달 십삼 일에 멸하고 죽이며 망하게 하라는 것이요, 그들의 약탈품을 전리품으로 취하라는 것이라.
13 And the letters were sent by posts into all the king's provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them for a prey.
14 각각의 속주에 명령으로 주어질 그 글의 사본이 온 백성에게 공표되었으니, 그들이 그날을 대비하여 준비되게 하려 함이라.
14 The copy of the writing for a commandment to be given in every province was published unto all people, that they should be ready against that day.
15 전달자들도 왕의 명령에 의하여 서둘러 나갔고, 그 칙령이 슈샨궁 안에서도 주어졌더라. 그리고 왕과 하만은 앉아서 마셨으나 슈샨 도시는 어찌할 바를 몰랐더라.
15 The posts went out, being hastened by the king's commandment, and the decree was given in Shushan the palace. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city Shushan was perplexed.
