1 그러므로 주의 속박된 자인 내가 너희에게 간청하노니, 너희가 부르심 받은 그 소명에 합당하게 살아가라.
1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
2 모든 낮아짐과 온유함으로, 또 오래 참음으로 사랑 안에서 서로 용납하여
2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
3 화평의 띠 안에서 성령의 하나 되게 하심을 지키도록 노력하라.
3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
4 너희의 부르심의 한 소망 안에서 너희가 부르심을 받았으니, 바로 이와 같이 한 몸과 한 영이 계시고,
4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
5 한 주와 한 믿음과 한 침례와
5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6 한 하나님, 곧 모두의 아버지께서 계시느니라. 그분은 모든 것 위에 계시며, 모든 것을 통하여 너희 모두 안에 계시느니라.
6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
7 그러나 우리 각자에게는 그리스도의 선물의 분량에 따라 은혜가 주어지느니라.
7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
8 이런 이유로 그분께서 이같이 말씀하시느니라. “그분께서 높은 곳으로 올라가셨을 때, 그분께서 포로들을 사로잡아 인도하셨으며 사람들에게는 선물들을 주셨도다.”
8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
9 (이제 그분께서 올라가셨으므로, 그것은 그분께서 또한 먼저 땅의 더 낮은 부분들로 내려가셨다는 것이 아니면 무엇이겠느냐?
9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
10 내려가신 그분은 또한 모든 하늘들보다 아득히 위로 올라가신 바로 그분이시니, 그분께서 모든 것들을 가득 채우려 하심이라.)
10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
11 그리고 그분께서는 어떤 이들을 사도들로, 또 어떤 이들을 예언자들로, 또 어떤 이들을 복음 전도자들로, 또 어떤 이들을 목양자들, 곧 선생들로 주셨으니,
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 성도들을 완전하게 하려 하심이요, 사역의 일을 하게 하려 하심이요, 그리스도의 몸을 세우게 하려 하심이요,
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
13 마침내 우리 모두가 믿음의 일치와 하나님의 아들의 지식의 일치에 도달하여, 하나의 완전한 사람에 이르게 하고 그리스도의 충만하심의 장성한 분량에까지 이르게 하려 하심이요,
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
14 우리로 하여금 앞으로는 더 이상 아이들이 되지 않고, 사람들의 교묘한 속임수로 인하여, 또 속이려고 엎드려 기다리는 자들의 교활한 꾀로 인하여, 이리저리 흔들려 온갖 교리의 풍조에 밀려다니지 아니하며,
14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
15 오직 사랑 안에서 진리를 말하고, 모든 일들 가운데 그분 안으로 성장하게 하려 하심이라. 그분은 머리시니, 곧 그리스도시라.
15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
16 그분으로부터 몸 전체가 다 같이 적합하게 결합하고, 모든 마디가 저마다 공급하는 것으로 가득 채워지나니, 각 부분의 분량 안에서 효과적으로 역사하심에 따라 몸을 성장하게 하시어 스스로 사랑 안에서 세우는 데까지 이르도록 하시느니라.
16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
17 그러므로 내가 이것을 말하며 주 안에서 증언하노니, 너희가 앞으로는 다른 이방인들이 그들 생각의 허망함 가운데 살아가는 것처럼 살아가지 말라.
17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
18 그들은 자기들 안에 있는 무지함을 통하여 하나님의 생명으로부터 멀어졌으며 명철이 어두워졌으니, 그들의 마음의 눈이 멀어버렸기 때문이라.
18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
19 그들은 감각을 상실하여 자기들을 음탕함에 내어 주었고 욕심으로 모든 불결함을 행하였느니라.
19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
20 그러나 너희는 그리스도를 그렇게 배우지 아니하였노라.
20 But ye have not so learned Christ;
21 만일 진리가 예수님 안에 있으므로 너희가 그분의 말씀을 들었고, 또 그분으로부터 가르침을 받았다면,
21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
22 너희는 이전 생활 방식에 관하여 옛사람을 벗어 버리라. 그 옛사람은 속임수로 가득한 정욕들에 따라 부패한 것이라.
22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
23 그런즉 너희의 생각의 영 안에서 새롭게 되라.
23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
24 또한 너희는 새사람을 입으라. 그것은 하나님을 따라 의와 참된 거룩함 안에서 창조된 사람이라.
24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
25 이런 이유로 모든 사람은 저마다 거짓말을 버리고 자기 이웃과 함께 진리를 말하라. 이는 우리가 서로 지체들이기 때문이라.
25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
26 너희가 화를 내되 죄는 짓지 말라. 너희의 격노 위에 해가 지도록 하지 말라.
26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
27 또한 마귀에게 틈을 주지도 말라.
27 Neither give place to the devil.
28 도둑질한 자는 더 이상 도둑질하지 못하게 하라. 오히려 그로 하여금 노동을 하게 하여 자신의 두 손으로 선한 일을 하게 하라. 이는 그로 하여금 빈곤한 자에게 줄 수 있도록 하려는 것이라.
28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
29 부패한 대화는 너희 입 밖으로 전혀 나오지 않게 하고, 오직 세워주는 용도로 선한 것만 나오게 하라. 이는 그것으로 하여금 듣는 자들에게 은혜를 끼치게 하려 함이라.
29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
30 그리고 하나님의 거룩한 영을 비통하게 하지 말라. 그분으로 말미암아 너희가 구속의 날까지 인장을 받았느니라.
30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
31 모든 신랄함과 격노와 분노와 고성과 악한 언사를 모든 악의와 함께 너희로부터 치워 버리라.
31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
32 그리하여 너희는 서로에게 친절하고 상냥한 마음이 되어 하나님께서 그리스도를 위하여 너희를 용서하셨듯이 바로 그처럼 서로 용서하라.
32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
