1 이후에 그분께서 어떤 한 장소에서 기도하시는 동안 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그분께서 기도하기를 끝맺으셨을 때, 그분의 제자들 중 하나가 그분께 말씀드리기를, “주여, 요한도 그의 제자들에게 가르쳐 준 것처럼 우리에게도 기도하는 것을 가르쳐 주소서.” 하였더라.

1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

2 그러자 그분께서 그들에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “너희가 기도할 때면 이같이 말하라. ‘하늘에 계신 우리 아버지여, 당신의 이름이 신성하게 되시기를 바라옵나이다. 당신의 왕국이 임하기를 바라오며 당신의 뜻이 하늘에서 이루어진 것같이 땅에서도 그렇게 이루어지기를 바라옵나이다.

2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

3 우리에게 날마다 우리의 일용할 빵을 주시옵고,

3 Give us day by day our daily bread.

4 우리에게 우리의 죄들을 용서해 주옵소서. 이는 우리도 우리에게 빚을 진 자 모두를 저마다 용서하기 때문이니이다. 또한 우리를 시험으로 인도하지 마시옵고, 다만 악에서 우리를 구해 내 주시옵소서.’”

4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

5 이후에 그분께서 그들에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “너희 중에 누가 친구가 있어서 한밤중에 그를 찾아가 그에게 말하기를, ‘친구여, 나에게 세 덩이의 빵을 좀 빌려 주게.

5 And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;

6 이는 내 친구가 자신의 여정 중에 있다가 내게 왔는데 내가 그의 앞에 차릴 것이 아무것도 없기 때문이네.’라고 할 것이냐?

6 For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?

7 그리하면 그가 안에서 대답하여 말하기를, ‘나를 곤란하게 하지 말게. 지금 문이 닫혀 있고 나의 자식들도 나와 함께 침상으로 들어와 있네. 내가 자네에게 일어나서 줄 수가 없네.’ 할 것이라.

7 And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.

8 내가 너희에게 말하노니, ‘비록 그가 자신의 친구라는 이유로는 그가 일어나서 그에게 주지 아니할지라도 그의 끈질긴 간청 때문에 그가 일어나서 그가 필요한 만큼 그에게 줄 것이라.’

8 I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.

9 그런즉 내가 너희에게 말하노니, ‘구하라. 그리하면 그것이 너희에게 주어질 것이요, 찾으라. 그리하면 너희가 발견할 것이요, 두드리라. 그리하면 그것이 너희에게 열릴 것이라.’

9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

10 이는 구하는 이마다 받고, 찾는 자는 발견하며, 두드리는 자에게 그것이 열릴 것이기 때문이라.

10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

11 너희 중 어떤 아버지가 아들이 빵을 구하는데도 그가 돌을 그에게 주겠느냐? 혹은 아들이 생선을 구하는데, 아버지가 생선 대신 뱀을 그에게 주겠느냐?

11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?

12 혹은 그가 알을 구하는데 아버지가 아들에게 전갈을 내놓겠느냐?

12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?

13 그렇다면 너희가 악함에도 불구하고 너희 자녀들에게 좋은 선물들을 줄 줄 알거든, 하물며 너희 하늘 아버지께서는 그분께 구하는 자들에게 거룩한 영을 얼마나 더 많이 주시겠느냐?”

13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

14 ¶ 이후에 그분께서 마귀 하나를 쫓아내고 계셨는데 그것은 벙어리 영이었더라. 그러자 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그 마귀가 빠져나가자 말을 하지 못하던 그 자가 말을 하였더라. 이에 백성이 경이로워하였더라.

14 ¶ And he was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered.

15 그러나 그들 중 일부는 말하기를, “그는 마귀들의 우두머리인 베엘제붑을 통하여 마귀들을 쫓아내는도다.” 하였더라.

15 But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils.

16 그리고 그분을 시험하는 다른 이들은 그분에게서 하늘로부터 오는 표적을 구하였더라.

16 And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven.

17 그러나 그분께서는 그들의 생각들을 알고 계시므로 그들에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “스스로 대적하여 분열하는 모든 왕국마다 황량함에 이르게 되리라. 그리고 스스로 대적하여 분열하는 집은 몰락하느니라.

17 But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth.

18 만일 사탄 역시 스스로를 대적하여 분열한다면 어떻게 그의 왕국이 서겠느냐? 이는 너희가 나에게 베엘제붑을 통하여 마귀들을 쫓아낸다고 말하기 때문이라.

18 If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub.

19 그런즉 만일 내가 베엘제붑을 힘입어 마귀들을 쫓아낸다면 너희의 아들들은 누구를 힘입어 그들을 쫓아내느냐? 그러므로 그들이 너희의 판관들이 되리라.

19 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges.

20 그러나 만일 내가 하나님의 손가락으로 마귀들을 쫓아낸다면 의심할 바 없이 하나님의 왕국이 너희에게 임한 것이니라.

20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.

21 강한 남자가 무장한 채 자신의 호화로운 집을 지킬 때면 그의 소유물들은 무사하니라.

21 When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:

22 그러나 그보다 더 강한 남자가 그에게 와서 그를 이기면 더 강한 자는 그가 신뢰하던 그의 갑옷을 그에게서 전부 빼앗고 자신의 약탈물들을 나누느니라.

22 But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.

23 나와 함께하지 아니하는 자는 나를 대적하는 자요, 나와 함께 모으지 아니하는 자는 흩어 버리는 자니라.

23 He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.

24 불결한 영이 사람에게서 빠져나갈 때면 그가 쉼을 찾아 마른 곳들을 두루 걸어 다니느니라. 그리고 어디도 발견하지 못하므로 그가 말하기를, ‘내가 빠져나온 나의 집으로 되돌아가리라.’ 하느니라.

24 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out.

25 그리하여 그가 갔을 때 그곳이 청소되고 장식되어 있는 것을 그가 발견하는도다.

25 And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished.

26 그때 그가 가서 자기보다 더 사악한 다른 일곱 영을 그에게 데려오니 그들이 들어가고 거기서 거하느니라. 그런즉 그 사람의 나중 상태가 처음 상태보다 더 악화되느니라.”

26 Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.

27 ¶ 그러고 나서 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그분께서 이러한 것들을 이르시는 동안 일행 중에서 어떤 여자 한 명이 그녀의 목소리를 높이어 그분께 말씀드리기를, “당신을 밴 태와 당신이 빤 젖들은 복되도다.” 하였더라.

27 ¶ And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.

28 그러나 그분께서 말씀하시기를, “진정, 그보다는 하나님의 말씀을 듣고 그것을 지키는 자들이 복되도다.” 하셨느니라.

28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

29 ¶ 이후에 사람들이 밀집하여 한데 모였을 때 그분께서 이같이 말씀하기 시작하셨느니라. “이 세대는 악한 세대니라. 그들이 표적을 구하는도다. 그런즉 예언자 요-나의 표적 외에는 이 세대에게 주어질 표적이 없으리라.

29 ¶ And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet.

30 이는 요-나가 니네베족들에게 표적이었던 것같이 인자 역시 이 세대에게 그러할 것이기 때문이라.

30 For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation.

31 심판 때 남방의 여왕이 이 세대의 사람들과 함께 일어나서 그들을 정죄하리라. 이는 그녀가 솔로몬의 지혜를 들으려고 땅의 맨 끝부분들에서 왔기 때문이라. 그런즉 보라, 여기에 솔로몬보다 더 위대한 이가 있느니라.

31 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

32 심판 때 니네브 사람들이 이 세대와 함께 일어나서 이 세대를 정죄하리라. 이는 그들이 요-나의 선포로 회개하였기 때문이라. 그런즉 보라, 여기에 요-나보다 더 위대한 이가 있느니라.

32 The men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.

33 아무도 자신이 불빛을 밝힌 후에 그것을 은밀한 곳 안이나 부셸 되⁵ 아래에 두지 아니하고, 다만 등잔대 위에 두나니 들어오는 자들이 그 빛을 볼 수 있게 하려 함이라.

33 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.

34 몸의 빛은 눈이라. 그러므로 너의 눈이 단일할 때는 너의 온몸도 빛으로 가득하니라. 그러나 너의 눈이 악할 때는 너의 몸도 어둠으로 가득하니라.

34 The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.

35 그러므로 너의 안에 있는 빛이 어둠이 되지 않도록 주의하라.

35 Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.

36 그러므로 만일 너의 온몸이 빛으로 가득하고 어두운 부분이 전혀 없다면, 환히 발산하는 불빛이 너에게 빛을 주는 때처럼 전체가 빛으로 가득하리라.”

36 If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.

37 ¶ 이후에 그분께서 말씀하시는 동안 어떤 바리새파 사람 한 명이 자신과 함께 식사하여 주시기를 그분께 간청하였더라. 이에 그분께서 안으로 들어가시어 음식 앞에 앉으셨더라.

37 ¶ And as he spake, a certain Pharisee besought him to dine with him: and he went in, and sat down to meat.

38 그리고 그 바리새파 사람이 그것을 보았을 때 그는 예수님께서 정찬 전에 먼저 씻지 아니하시는 것을 이상히 여겼더라.

38 And when the Pharisee saw it, he marvelled that he had not first washed before dinner.

39 그러자 주께서 그에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “이제 너희 바리새파 사람들이 잔과 대접의 겉면을 깨끗하게 하나, 너희의 내부는 탐욕스럽게 삼키는 것과 사악함으로 가득 찼도다.

39 And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness.

40 너희, 어리석은 자들아, 겉에 있는 것을 만드신 분께서 속에 있는 것도 만들지 아니하셨느냐?

40 Ye fools, did not he that made that which is without make that which is within also?

41 그러나 차라리 너희가 소유한 만큼 그러한 것들로 자선을 베풀라. 그리하면 보라, 모든 것들이 너희에게 깨끗하니라.

41 But rather give alms of such things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you.

42 그러나 바리새파 사람들아, 너희에게 화가 있기를 바라노라! 이는 너희가 박하와 운향과 모든 부류의 야채들로 십일조를 내면서도 공의와 하나님의 사랑은 간과하기 때문이라. 너희가 이것들도 마땅히 실행하고, 다른 것들도 실행하지 않은 채로 남겨 두지 말아야 하느니라.

42 But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

43 바리새파 사람들아, 너희에게 화가 있기를 바라노라! 이는 너희가 회당들에서는 가장 윗자리들을 사랑하고 시장들에서는 인사받는 것들을 사랑하기 때문이라.

43 Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.

44 위선자들인 서기관들과 바리새파 사람들아, 너희에게 화가 있기를 바라노라! 이는 너희가 드러나지 않는 무덤들과 같기 때문이라. 그런즉 그것들 위를 걸어 다니는 사람들이 그것들을 자각하지 못하는도다.”

44 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them.

45 ¶ 그때 율법사들 중 하나가 그분께 대답하여 말씀드리기를, “스승이여, 당신께서 그와 같이 말씀하심으로써 우리까지도 모욕하고 계시나이다.” 하였더라.

45 ¶ Then answered one of the lawyers, and said unto him, Master, thus saying thou reproachest us also.

46 그러자 그분께서 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “너희, 율법사들아, 너희에게도 화가 있기를 바라노라! 이는 너희가 사람들에게 지기에 가혹한 짐들을 지우면서 너희 자신은 그 짐들에 너희 손가락 중 하나도 대지 아니하기 때문이라.

46 And he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers.

47 너희에게 화가 있기를 바라노라! 이는 너희가 예언자들의 돌무덤들을 만들며 너희 조상들은 그들을 죽였기 때문이라.

47 Woe unto you! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers killed them.

48 참으로 너희가 너희 조상들의 행실들을 수용하는 것을 스스로 증거하는도다. 이는 그들이 정녕 그들을 죽였고 너희는 그들의 돌무덤들을 만들기 때문이라.

48 Truly ye bear witness that ye allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and ye build their sepulchres.

49 그러므로 하나님의 지혜도 말씀하시기를, ‘내가 그들에게 예언자들과 사도들을 보낼 것이요, 그들은 그들 중 일부를 살해하고 박해할 것이라.’ 하셨느니라.

49 Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute:

50 이는 세상의 기초가 세워진 이래로 흘려진 모든 예언자들의 피가 이 세대에게 요구되게 하려 함이라.

50 That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;

51 곧, 아벨의 피로부터 제단과 성전 사이에서 목숨을 잃은 사카랴의 피까지니라. 진실로 내가 너희에게 말하노니, ‘그것이 이 세대에게 요구되리라.’

51 From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.

52 율법사들아, 너희에게 화가 있기를 바라노라! 이는 너희가 지식의 열쇠를 치워버렸기 때문이니, 너희 자신이 들어가지 않으면서도 들어가고 있던 자들을 너희가 저지하였도다.”

52 Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered.

53 그러자 그분께서 그들에게 이런 것들을 말씀하셨을 때 서기관들과 바리새파 사람들은 그분을 맹렬하게 몰아대기 시작하였고 그분께서 많은 것들을 말씀하시도록 자극하기 시작하였더라.

53 And as he said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things:

54 또한 그분의 입에서 나오는 구실을 포착하려고 모색하며 그분을 노리고 기다렸으니, 그들이 그분을 고소하려 함이었더라.

54 Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him.
