1 이제 그분께서 백성이 경청하는 가운데 친히 말씀하시는 것들을 모두 끝마치셨을 때, 그분은 가버나움으로 들어가셨더라.

1 Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum.

2 그런데 어떤 백부장의 종 한 명이 있었으니, 그 종은 백부장에게 소중한 자라. 그가 병들었으며 곧 죽게 되었더라.

2 And a certain centurion's servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die.

3 이에 그 백부장이 예수님에 관하여 듣자 그가 유대인들의 장로들을 그분께 보내며 친히 오셔서 자신의 종을 치유해 주시기를 그분께 간청하였더라.

3 And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant.

4 그러자 그들이 예수님께 당도하였을 때 그분께 그들이 절박하게 간청하며 이같이 말씀드렸더라. “그를 위하여 예수님께서 이 일을 해 주시는 것이 그에게 합당하나이다.

4 And when they came to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this:

5 이는 그가 우리 민족을 사랑하기 때문이니, 그는 우리를 위하여 회당 하나를 지어 주었나이다.”

5 For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue.

6 그때 예수님께서 그들과 함께 가셨더라. 그리고 그분께서 이제 그 집에서 멀리 계시지 않았을 때 백부장이 그분께 친구들을 보내면서 그분께 이같이 말씀드렸더라. “주여, 친히 수고하지 마소서. 이는 당신께서 저의 지붕 아래로 들어오실 만큼 제가 합당하지 아니하기 때문이니이다.

6 Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof:

7 이런 이유로 제 자신이 당신께 나아가기에도 합당하지 않다고 생각하였나이다. 오직 한 말씀만 하소서. 그리하면 저의 종이 치유되리이다.

7 Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.

8 이는 저 또한 권위 아래 세워진 남자이며 제 아래 병사들을 두고 있기 때문이니이다. 이에 제가 누군가에게 ‘가라.’ 하면 그가 가고 또 다른 이에게 ‘오라.’ 하면 그가 오나이다. 그리고 나의 종에게 ‘이것을 하라.’ 하면 그는 그것을 하나이다.”

8 For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.

9 예수님께서 이것들을 들으셨을 때 그분께서 그를 놀라워하셨으며 친히 돌아서시어 자신을 따르는 백성에게 말씀하시기를, “내가 너희에게 말하노라. 나는 이처럼 대단한 믿음을 발견한 적이 없나니, 없도다, 이스라엘에는 없도다.” 하셨느니라.

9 When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.

10 이후에 보냄을 받은 자들이 그 집으로 되돌아가서 병들었던 그 종이 온전하게 된 것을 발견하였더라.

10 And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick.

11 ¶ 그리고 다음날 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그분께서 나인이라 불리는 도시 안으로 들어가셨더라. 그런데 그분의 제자들 중 많은 이들이 그분과 함께 갔으며 많은 백성도 함께 갔더라.

11 ¶ And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people.

12 이때 그분께서 그 도시의 성문에 가까이 오시자, 보라, 한 죽은 남자가 밖으로 운구되어 나왔으니, 그는 그의 어머니에게 독자요, 그녀는 과부였더라. 그런즉 그 도시의 많은 백성이 그녀와 함께 있었더라.

12 Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her.

13 그러자 주께서 그녀를 보셨을 때 그분께서 그녀에게 연민을 가지시어 그녀에게 말씀하시기를, “울지 말라.” 하셨느니라.

13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.

14 그러고는 그분께서 오셔서 그 상여를 만지셨고 그를 받치고 있던 자들이 가만히 섰더라. 그러자 그분께서 말씀하시기를, “청년아, 내가 너에게 말하노니, 일어나라.” 하셨느니라.

14 And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.

15 그리하여 죽었던 그가 일어나 앉았으며 말하기 시작하였더라. 이에 그분께서 그를 그의 어머니에게 넘겨주셨더라.

15 And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.

16 그리하여 모두에게 두려움이 임하였고 그들이 하나님께 영광을 돌리며 말하기를, “위대한 예언자가 우리 가운데 일어나셨도다.” 또 “하나님께서 그분의 백성을 찾아오셨도다.” 하였더라.

16 And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.

17 이후에 그분에 관한 이 소문이 온 유대에 걸쳐 그리고 주변의 전 구역에 걸쳐 퍼져 나갔더라.

17 And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judaea, and throughout all the region round about.

18 이에 요한의 제자들이 이 모든 것들을 그에게 알렸더라.

18 And the disciples of John shewed him of all these things.

19 ¶ 그리하여 요한이 자신의 제자들 중 둘을 자신에게로 불러 그들을 예수님께 보내며 말씀드리기를, “당신께서 오시기로 한 그분이시니이까? 아니면 우리가 또 다른 분을 고대하리이까?” 하였더라.

19 ¶ And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?

20 그 사람들이 그분께 왔을 때 그들이 이렇게 말씀드렸더라. “침례자 요한이 당신께 우리를 보내며 말하기를, ‘당신께서 오시기로 한 그분이시니이까? 아니면 우리가 또 다른 분을 고대하리이까?’ 하였나이다.”

20 When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?

21 그러자 바로 그 시각에 그분께서 많은 이들을 그들의 병약함들과 질환들에서 고쳐 주셨으며 많은 악한 영들이 들린 자들도 고쳐 주셨더라. 그리고 많은 눈먼 자들에게 친히 시력을 주셨더라.

21 And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight.

22 그때 예수님께서 그들에게 대답하며 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “너희의 길을 가라. 그리고 요한에게 너희가 보고 들은 것들을 알려 주라. 곧 눈먼 자들이 보고, 절뚝거리는 자들이 걸으며, 나병 환자들이 정결해지고, 귀먹은 자들이 들으며, 죽은 자들이 일으켜지고, 가난한 자들에게 복음이 선포되는 것이라.

22 Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.

23 그리고 누구든지 나로 인하여 실족되지 않을 자는 복되도다.”

23 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

24 ¶ 이윽고 요한의 전령들이 떠나자 그분께서 요한에 관하여 백성에게 이르기 시작하셨더라. “너희는 무엇을 보려고 광야로 나갔더냐? 바람에 흔들리는 갈대더냐?

24 ¶ And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind?

25 아니면 너희가 무엇을 보려고 나갔더냐? 부드러운 의상으로 옷 입혀진 남자더냐? 보라, 호화로운 옷차림을 하고 세련되게 사는 자들은 왕들의 궁궐들에 있느니라.

25 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings' courts.

26 그러나 너희가 무엇을 보려고 나갔더냐? 예언자더냐? 내가 너희에게 말하노니, 맞도다. 또한 예언자보다도 훨씬 더 나은 자니라.

26 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.

27 이 사람이 그 사람이니, 그에 관하여 기록되기를, ‘보라, 내가 나의 전령을 너의 면전에 보내노라. 그는 너의 앞에서 너의 길을 예비하리라.’ 하였도다.

27 This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

28 이는 내가 너희에게 말하기를, ‘여자들에게서 태어난 자들 가운데서 침례자 요한보다 더 위대한 예언자는 없도다. 그러나 하나님의 왕국에서는 가장 낮은 자가 그보다 더 위대하니라.’ 하기 때문이라.”

28 For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.

29 그리하여 그분의 말씀을 들은 모든 백성과 세리들이 요한의 침례로 침례를 받음으로써 하나님의 정당하심을 입증하였더라.

29 And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.

30 그러나 바리새파 사람들과 율법사들은 그에게 침례를 받지 않음으로써 자신들을 거슬러 하나님의 계획을 거절하였더라.

30 But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.

31 ¶ 이후에 주께서 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “그렇다면 내가 이 세대의 사람들을 어디에 비유하리오? 또한 그들이 무엇과 같은가?

31 ¶ And the Lord said, Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like?

32 그들은 장터에 앉아서 서로를 부르며 말하는 아이들과 같으니, ‘우리가 너희에게 피리를 불었는데도 너희는 춤추지 아니하였도다. 우리가 너희에게 애곡하였는데도 너희는 울지 아니하였도다.’ 하는도다.

32 They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept.

33 이는 침례자 요한이 와서 빵도 먹지 아니하고 포도즙도 마시지 아니하자 너희가 말하기를 ‘그는 한 마귀에 들려 있도다.’ 하기 때문이라.

33 For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a devil.

34 인자가 와서 먹고 마시자 너희가 말하기를 ‘보라, 탐식하는 사람이요, 과음하는 자요, 세리들과 죄인들의 친구로다!’ 하는도다.

34 The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!

35 그러나 지혜는 그녀의 모든 자녀들에게서 정당함을 입증받느니라.”

35 But wisdom is justified of all her children.

36 ¶ 그런데 바리새파 사람들 중 한 명이 그분께 친히 자신과 함께 식사해 주실 것을 요청하였더라. 그리하여 그분께서 그 바리새파 사람의 집으로 들어가서 음식 앞에 앉으셨더라.

36 ¶ And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat.

37 그런데 보라, 그 도시 안에는 죄인인 여자가 있었는데 그녀가 예수님께서 그 바리새파 사람의 집 안에 앉아 식사하고 계셨던 것을 알았을 때 향유가 든 설화 석고 함을 가져왔더라.

37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,

38 그러고는 그분 뒤편에서 울며 그분의 발치에 섰고 눈물들로 그분의 두 발을 씻기 시작하였으니, 자신의 머리카락들로 그것들을 닦아 냈고, 그분의 두 발에 입을 맞춘 다음 그것들에 향유를 부었더라.

38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

39 이때 그분을 초대했던 그 바리새파 사람이 그것을 보자 그가 자기 속으로 일러 말하기를, ‘만일 이 사람이 예언자였다면 그는 자신을 만지는 이 사람이 누구며 어떤 부류의 여자인지 알았으리라. 이는 그녀가 죄인이기 때문이라.’ 하였더라.

39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.

40 그러자 예수님께서 그에게 반응하며 말씀하시기를, “시몬아, 내가 너에게 무언가 말할 것이 있느니라.” 하셨느니라. 이에 그가 말씀드리기를, “스승님, 계속 말씀하소서.” 하니라.

40 And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.

41 “두 명의 채무자가 있는 어떤 채권자 한 명이 있었도다. 한쪽은 오백 펜스²를, 다른 쪽은 오십 펜스를 빚졌느니라.

41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.

42 그런데 그들이 아무것도 갚을 것이 없자 그는 그들 모두를 선뜻 용서해 주었느니라. 그러므로 나에게 말해 보라. 그들 중 누가 그를 가장 많이 사랑하겠느냐?”

42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?

43 시몬이 대답하여 말씀드리기를, “제가 가늠하기로는 그 채권자가 가장 많이 용서해 준 자이니이다.” 하였더라. 이에 그분께서 그에게 말씀하시기를, “네가 옳게 판단하였노라.” 하셨느니라.

43 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.

44 그러고는 친히 그 여자를 향하여 몸을 돌리시어 시몬에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “너는 이 여자를 보느냐? 내가 너의 집 안으로 들어왔는데 너는 나에게 내 두 발을 위한 물을 주지 아니하였느니라. 그러나 그녀는 눈물들로 내 두 발을 씻기고 그녀의 머리카락들로 그것들을 닦았느니라.

44 And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.

45 너는 내게 입 맞추지 아니하였느니라. 그러나 이 여자는 내가 들어왔을 때부터 내 두 발에 입 맞추는 것을 그치지 아니하였느니라.

45 Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.

46 너는 내 머리에 기름을 붓지 아니하였느니라. 그러나 이 여자는 향유를 내 두 발에 부었느니라.

46 My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment.

47 이런 이유로 내가 너에게 말하노니, ‘그녀의 많은 죄들이 용서받았느니라. 그러므로 그녀가 많이 사랑하였느니라. 그러나 용서를 적게 받은 자는 적게 사랑하느니라.’”

47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.

48 그런 다음에 그분께서 그녀에게 말씀하시기를, “너의 죄들이 용서되었느니라.” 하셨느니라.

48 And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.

49 그러자 그분과 함께 음식 앞에 앉아 먹던 자들이 자기들 속으로 말하기 시작하기를, “이 자가 누구기에 죄들도 용서하는가?” 하였더라.

49 And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also?

50 그런 다음에 그분께서 그 여자에게 말씀하시기를, “너의 믿음이 너를 구원하였느니라. 평안 가운데 가라.” 하셨느니라.

50 And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.
