1 이후에 사탄이 이스라엘을 대적하여 일어났고 다윗을 자극하여 이스라엘을 계수하게 하였더라.

And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.

2 그리하여 다윗이 요압에게, 또 백성의 치리자들에게 말하기를, “가라, 베르셰바에서부터 단에 이르기까지 이스라엘을 계수하라. 그리고 내가 그것을 알 수 있도록 나에게 그들의 수를 가져오라.” 하였더라.

And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel from Beersheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it.

3 그러자 요압이 대답하기를, “주께서 현재 그분의 백성이 존재하는 것보다 일백 배나 더 그들을 아주 많게 하시기를 바라나이다. 그러나 나의 주 왕이여, 그들은 나의 주의 모든 종들이 아니니이까? 그렇다면 어찌하여 나의 주께서 이것을 요구하시나이까? 어찌하여 왕께서 이스라엘에게 범법의 원인이 되시려 하시나이까?” 하였더라.

And Joab answered, The LORD make his people an hundred times so many more as they be: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord's servants? why then doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of trespass to Israel?

4 그럼에도 불구하고 왕의 말이 요압을 대적하여 우세하였더라. 이러한 이유로 요압이 떠났고 온 이스라엘을 구석구석 다닌 뒤에 예루살렘으로 왔더라.

Nevertheless the king's word prevailed against Joab. Wherefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem.

5 ¶ 이후에 요압이 다윗에게 백성의 수의 총합을 주었더라. 그리고 이스라엘 중에서 칼을 뺀 자들은 총 일백십만 명의 남자들이었더라. 그리고 유다는 칼을 뺀 남자들이 사십칠만 명이었더라.

¶ And Joab gave the sum of the number of the people unto David. And all they of Israel were a thousand thousand and an hundred thousand men that drew sword: and Judah was four hundred threescore and ten thousand men that drew sword.

6 그러나 레위와 베냐민은 그가 그들 사이에서 계수하지 아니하였더라. 이는 왕의 말이 요압에게 가증하였기 때문이라.

But Levi and Benjamin counted he not among them: for the king's word was abominable to Joab.

7 그리고 하나님께서 이것에 대하여 불쾌해하셨으므로 그분께서 이스라엘을 치셨더라.

And God was displeased with this thing; therefore he smote Israel.

8 그러자 다윗이 하나님께 말씀드리기를, “제가 이 일을 행하였으므로 제가 대단히 크게 죄를 지었나이다. 그러나 이제 제가 당신께 간청하오니, 당신의 종의 죄악을 없애 주소서. 이는 제가 매우 어리석게 행하였기 때문이니이다.” 하였더라.

And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, because I have done this thing: but now, I beseech thee, do away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.

9 ¶ 그런즉 주께서 다윗의 선견자 갓에게 이같이 일러 말씀하셨느니라.

¶ And the LORD spake unto Gad, David's seer, saying,

10 “가서 다윗에게 알리며 말하기를, ‘주가 이같이 말하노라. 내가 너에게 세 가지를 제안하겠노라. 너는 그것들 중에서 한 가지를 선택하라. 이는 내가 그것을 너에게 행하려 함이라.’”

Go and tell David, saying, Thus saith the LORD, I offer thee three things: choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.

11 그렇기에 갓이 다윗에게 왔고 그에게 이같이 말하였더라. “주께서 이같이 말씀하시나니, 당신은 선택하소서.

So Gad came to David, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Choose thee

12 삼 년 동안의 기근이든지, 아니면 삼 개월 동안 당신의 원수들의 칼이 당신을 따라잡는 사이 당신의 적들 앞에서 패망하게 되는 것이든지, 그것도 아니면 삼 일 동안 주의 칼, 곧 영토 안에 역병이 있어 주의 천사가 이스라엘의 온 지경들을 구석구석 멸망시키는 것, 이 중에 하나이니이다. 그러므로 이제 제가 저를 보내신 분께 무슨 말을 다시 가져가야 할지 친히 알려 주소서.”

Either three years' famine; or three months to be destroyed before thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee; or else three days the sword of the LORD, even the pestilence, in the land, and the angel of the LORD destroying throughout all the coasts of Israel. Now therefore advise thyself what word I shall bring again to him that sent me.

13 그러자 다윗이 갓에게 말하기를, “내가 엄청난 궁지에 몰려 있도다. 나로 하여금 이제 주의 손안에 떨어지게 하라. 이는 그분의 자비들은 아주 위대하기 때문이라. 그러나 나로 하여금 사람의 손안에 떨어지지 않게 하라.” 하였더라.

And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall now into the hand of the LORD; for very great are his mercies: but let me not fall into the hand of man.

14 ¶ 그렇게 하여 주께서 이스라엘 위에 역병을 보내셨더라. 그러자 이스라엘 중 칠만 명의 사람들이 쓰러졌더라.

¶ So the LORD sent pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.

15 그리고 하나님께서 예루살렘에 천사를 보내시어 그곳을 멸하라고 하셨더라. 그리하여 그가 멸하고 있는 동안 주께서 보셨고, 그분께서 그 해악으로부터 자신을 돌이키셨으며, 멸망시킨 그 천사에게 말씀하시기를, “충분하도다. 너의 손을 이제 거두라.” 하셨느니라. 그러자 주의 천사가 여부스족 오르난의 타작마당 옆에 섰더라.

And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the LORD beheld, and he repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD stood by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.

16 이윽고 다윗이 자기 두 눈을 들어 올렸고, 주의 천사가 뻗어 있는 자기 손에 뽑힌 칼 한 자루를 든 채 예루살렘 위에서 땅과 하늘 사이에 서 있는 것을 목격하였더라. 그때 굵은 베로 옷 입고 있었던 다윗과 이스라엘의 장로들이 그들의 얼굴을 대고 엎드렸더라.

And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the LORD stand between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders of Israel, who were clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.

17 그러면서 다윗이 하나님께 말씀드리기를, “백성이 계수되도록 명령한 것은 제가 아니니이까? 정녕 죄를 짓고 악을 행한 것은 바로 저이니이다. 그러나 이 양들로 말하자면 그들이 무엇을 하였나이까? 제가 당신께 간구하오니, 오, 주 나의 하나님이여, 당신의 손이 제 위에, 제 아버지의 집 위에 있게 하소서. 그러나 당신의 백성 위에는 있지 않게 하시어 그들이 재앙을 당하지 않게 하소서.” 하였더라.

And David said unto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have sinned and done evil indeed; but as for these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, O LORD my God, be on me, and on my father's house; but not on thy people, that they should be plagued.

18 ¶ 그때 주의 천사가 다윗에게 말하도록 갓에게 명령하시기를, “다윗은 올라가서 여부스족 오르난의 타작마당 안에서 주께 한 제단을 세워야 하는도다.” 하셨느니라.

¶ Then the angel of the LORD commanded Gad to say to David, that David should go up, and set up an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.

19 그리하여 다윗이 갓이 말한 대로, 곧 그가 주의 이름으로 전한 대로 올라갔더라.

And David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spake in the name of the LORD.

20 이윽고 오르난이 뒤를 돌았는데 그 천사를 목격하였더라. 그러자 그의 곁에 있는 네 명의 아들들이 자신들을 숨겼더라. 이때 오르난은 밀을 타작하고 있었더라.

And Ornan turned back, and saw the angel; and his four sons with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat.

21 그리고 다윗이 오르난에게 오는 동안 오르난이 바라보았다가 다윗을 목격하고 타작마당에서 나갔으며 그의 얼굴을 땅바닥에 대고 다윗에게 자신의 몸을 숙여 절하였더라.

And as David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshingfloor, and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground.

22 그때 다윗이 오르난에게 말하기를, “이 타작마당의 장소를 나에게 양도하여 내가 그 안에서 주께 한 제단을 쌓을 수 있게 하라. 너는 제값을 받고 그것을 나에게 양도할지니라. 이는 재앙이 백성에게서 그치게 하려 함이라.” 하였더라.

Then David said to Ornan, Grant me the place of this threshingfloor, that I may build an altar therein unto the LORD: thou shalt grant it me for the full price: that the plague may be stayed from the people.

23 그러자 오르난이 다윗에게 말하기를, “그것을 당신께로 취해 가시고 나의 주 왕께서 자기 두 눈에 좋은 것을 행하소서. 보소서, 제가 당신께 번제물들에 쓸 소들도 드리고 장작에 쓸 타작 기구들과 음식 제물에 쓸 밀을 드리나이다. 제가 그것을 전부 드리나이다.” 하였더라.

And Ornan said unto David, Take it to thee, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes: lo, I give thee the oxen also for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meat offering; I give it all.

24 그러자 다윗왕이 오르난에게 말하기를, “아니니라. 오직 나는 진실로 그것을 제값에 구입하겠노라. 이는 내가 주께 드리기 위하여 너에게 속한 것을 취하지 않을 것이기 때문이요, 비용 없이 번제물들을 바치지 않을 것이기 때문이라.” 하였더라.

And king David said to Ornan, Nay; but I will verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is thine for the LORD, nor offer burnt offerings without cost.

25 그렇게 하여 다윗이 그 장소를 위하여 오르난에게 무게로 금 육백 셰켈을 주었더라.

So David gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight.

26 그러고 나서 다윗이 주께 거기서 제단을 쌓았고 번제물들과 화평 제물들을 바쳤으며 주를 불렀더라. 그러자 그분께서 그에게 하늘에서부터 번제물의 제단 위에 불을 내려 응답하셨더라.

And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called upon the LORD; and he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt offering.

27 그런 다음에 주께서 그 천사에게 명령하셨더니 그가 자기 칼을 올려 그것의 칼집 안에 다시 꽂았더라.

And the LORD commanded the angel; and he put up his sword again into the sheath thereof.

28 ¶ 그때에 여부스족 오르난의 타작마당에서 주께서 그에게 응답하신 것을 다윗이 목격하자 그때 그가 거기서 희생 제물을 드렸더라.

¶ At that time when David saw that the LORD had answered him in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there.

29 이는 모세가 광야에서 만든 주의 장막과, 번제물의 제단이 그 시기에는 기브온에 있는 높은 처소 안에 있었기 때문이라.

For the tabernacle of the LORD, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burnt offering, were at that season in the high place at Gibeon.

30 그러나 다윗은 하나님께 여쭈려고 그것 앞으로 갈 수 없었더라. 이는 그가 주의 천사의 칼로 인하여 무서워하였기 때문이라.

But David could not go before it to enquire of God: for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of the LORD.
