1 이제 너의 젊음의 날들에 너의 창조주를 기억하라. 불행의 날들이 오기 전에, 또는 네가 말하기를, “내가 그것들을 기뻐하지 아니하노라.” 할 해들이 가까이 다가오기 전에,
1 Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;
2 해나 빛이나 달이나 별들이 어두워지기 전에, 또는 비가 온 뒤 구름들이 되돌아오기 전에 너의 창조주를 기억하라.
2 While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:
3 그날에는 집을 지키는 자들이 떨 것이요, 강한 사람들이 자신의 몸을 숙여 절할 것이요, 맷돌질하는 자들이 거의 없으므로 그들이 그칠 것이요, 창문들에서 내다보는 자들이 어두워지리라.
3 In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened,
4 그리고 거리들 안에서 문들이 닫힐 것이요, 맷돌질하는 소리가 낮아질 때 그는 새가 지저귀는 소리에 일어날 것이요, 음악하는 모든 딸들이 쇠하게 되리라.
4 And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low;
5 또한 그들이 높이 있는 것을 무서워할 때 두려움들이 길에 있을 것이요, 아몬드나무가 무성할 것이요, 풀무치가 부담이 될 것이요, 욕망이 사그라들 것이라. 이는 사람이 그의 머나먼 집으로 가고 애곡하는 자들이 거리들을 돌아다니기 때문이라.
5 Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:
6 은으로 된 끈이 풀리거나 금 대접이 깨지거나 물동이가 샘터에서 깨지거나 바퀴가 저수조에서 깨지기도 전에 너의 창조주를 기억하라.
6 Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.
7 그때에 진토는 전에 있던 대로 땅으로 되돌아가며 영은 그것을 주신 하나님께로 되돌아가리라.
7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
8 ¶ 선포자가 말하노라. 헛되고 헛되니, 모든 것이 헛되도다.
8 ¶ Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity.
9 그리고 이에 더하여 선포자가 지혜로웠기에 그가 백성에게 계속 지식을 가르쳤노라. 진정 그가 각별히 주의하여 찾아내며 많은 잠언들을 정리하였노라.
9 And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.
10 선포자는 받아들일 수 있을 만한 말들을 찾아내느라 애를 썼도다. 그런즉 여기 기록되었던 것은 올바른 것이었으니, 곧 진리의 말씀들이라.
10 The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.
11 지혜로운 자들의 말들은 찌르는 막대기들 같고 집회들의 스승들에 의하여 고정된 못들 같으니, 이것들은 한 목자로부터 주어지는 것들이라.
11 The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.
12 그런즉 나의 아들아, 이 말씀들로 더욱더 권고를 받으라. 많은 책들을 만드는 일은 끝이 전혀 없느니라. 그리고 많은 공부는 육체를 피곤하게 하느니라.
12 And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.
13 우리가 전체 일의 결론을 들을지니, 하나님을 두려워하고 그분의 명령들을 지키라. 이는 이것이 사람의 온전한 의무이기 때문이라.
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 이는 하나님께서 선이든 악이든 모든 은밀한 것과 더불어 모든 행위를 각각 심판으로 가져오실 것이기 때문이라.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
