1 이후에 사무엘이 온 이스라엘에게 말하기를, “보라, 너희가 나에게 말한 모든 것에 있어 내가 너희 음성에 경청하였고, 너희 위에 한 왕을 세웠노라.
1 And Samuel said unto all Israel, Behold, I have hearkened unto your voice in all that ye said unto me, and have made a king over you.
2 그런즉 이제 보라, 왕이 너희 앞에서 살아가는도다. 그런데 나는 늙었고 백발이 되었도다. 그런즉 보라, 나의 아들들이 너희와 함께 있도다. 그리고 내가 나의 유년 시절부터 이날까지 내가 너희 앞에서 살아갔노라.
2 And now, behold, the king walketh before you: and I am old and grayheaded; and, behold, my sons are with you: and I have walked before you from my childhood unto this day.
3 보라, 내가 여기 있도다. 주 앞과 그분의 기름 부음 받은 자 앞에서 나를 대적하여 증거하라. 내가 누구의 소를 빼앗았더냐? 아니면 내가 누구의 나귀를 빼앗았더냐? 또는 내가 누구를 속여서 빼앗았더냐? 내가 누구를 압제하였더냐? 또는 내가 누구의 손에서 내 두 눈을 멀게 하는 어떤 청탁물을 받았더냐? 그리하면 내가 너희에게 그것을 반환하겠노라.”
3 Behold, here I am: witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any bribe to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you.
4 그런즉 그들이 말하기를, “당신께서는 저희를 속여서 빼앗으신 적이 없고 저희를 압제하신 적도 없나이다. 또한 당신께서는 어떤 사람의 손에서도 조금도 갈취하신 적이 없나이다.” 하였더라.
4 And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken ought of any man's hand.
5 그러자 그가 그들에게 말하기를, “너희가 나의 손에서 아무것도 발견하지 못하였다는 것에 관하여 주께서 너희를 상대하시는 증인이시요, 그분의 기름 부음 받은 자가 이날에 증인이로다.” 하였더라. 이에 그들이 대답하기를, “그분께서 증인이시니이다.” 하였더라.
5 And he said unto them, The LORD is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found ought in my hand. And they answered, He is witness.
6 ¶ 이어서 사무엘이 백성에게 이같이 말하였더라. “모세와 아론을 나아가게 하시고 너희의 조상들을 이집트 지역에서 데리고 올라오신 분은 주시로다.
6 ¶ And Samuel said unto the people, It is the LORD that advanced Moses and Aaron, and that brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.
7 그러므로 이제 가만히 서 있으라. 이는 내가 주의 모든 의로운 행적들, 곧 그분께서 너희와 너희 조상들에게 행하신 행적들에 관하여 주 앞에서 너희에게 변론하려 함이라.
7 Now therefore stand still, that I may reason with you before the LORD of all the righteous acts of the LORD, which he did to you and to your fathers.
8 야곱이 이집트로 들어오고 너희의 조상들이 주께 부르짖던 그때 주께서 모세와 아론을 보내시어 너희의 조상들을 이집트에서 데리고 나오셨고 이곳 가운데서 그들이 거하도록 하셨도다.
8 When Jacob was come into Egypt, and your fathers cried unto the LORD, then the LORD sent Moses and Aaron, which brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and made them dwell in this place.
9 그리고 그들이 주 그들의 하나님을 잊자, 그분께서 그들을 하졸의 군대 대장 시스라의 손안과 필리스티아인들의 손안과 모압 왕의 손안에 파셨으니, 저들이 그들을 대적하여 싸웠느니라.
9 And when they forgat the LORD their God, he sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them.
10 그러자 그들이 주께 부르짖으며 말하기를, ‘저희가 죄를 지었사오니, 저희가 주를 저버리고 바알들과 아슈타롯을 섬겼기 때문이니이다. 그러나 이제 저희를 저희 원수들의 손에서 구출하소서. 그리하면 저희가 당신을 섬기겠나이다.’ 하였도다.
10 And they cried unto the LORD, and said, We have sinned, because we have forsaken the LORD, and have served Baalim and Ashtaroth: but now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve thee.
11 이에 주께서 여룹바알과 베단과 입다와 사무엘을 보내시어 사면에 있던 너희 원수들의 손에서 너희를 구출하셨으니, 너희가 안전하게 거하였도다.
11 And the LORD sent Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, and ye dwelled safe.
12 그리고 너희가 암몬 후손들의 왕 나하시가 너희를 대적하여 온 것을 보았을 때 주 너희 하나님께서 너희의 왕이셨는데도 너희는 나에게 말하기를, ‘아니니이다, 오직 왕이 우리를 통치하여야 하나이다.’ 하였노라.
12 And when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said unto me, Nay; but a king shall reign over us: when the LORD your God was your king.
13 그러므로 이제, 너희가 선택하고 너희가 갈구한 그 왕을 보라! 그런즉 보라, 주께서 너희를 다스릴 왕을 세우셨도다.
13 Now therefore behold the king whom ye have chosen, and whom ye have desired! and, behold, the LORD hath set a king over you.
14 만일 너희가 주를 두려워하고 그분을 섬기며 그분의 음성에 순종하고 주의 명령을 대적하여 반역하지 않을 것이라면, 그때는 너희와 너희 위에서 통치하는 너희의 왕도 모두 주 너희 하나님을 따르는 것을 지속하리라.
14 If ye will fear the LORD, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall both ye and also the king that reigneth over you continue following the LORD your God:
15 그러나 만일 너희가 주의 음성에 순종하지 않고 오히려 주의 명령을 대적하여 반역할 것이라면, 그때 주의 손이 너희를 대적할 것이니, 그것이 너희의 조상들을 대적하였던 것과 같으리라.
15 But if ye will not obey the voice of the LORD, but rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall the hand of the LORD be against you, as it was against your fathers.
16 ¶ 그러므로 이제 서서 주께서 너희의 눈앞에 행하실 이 위대한 일을 보라.
16 ¶ Now therefore stand and see this great thing, which the LORD will do before your eyes.
17 오늘이 밀을 수확하는 날이 아니냐? 내가 주를 부르겠나니, 그분께서 천둥과 비를 보내시리라. 이는 너희가 너희를 위하여 왕을 구한 일에 있어서 너희가 주의 목전에서 행한 너희의 사악함이 대단히 큰 것임을 이해하고 알게 하려 함이라.”
17 Is it not wheat harvest to day? I will call unto the LORD, and he shall send thunder and rain; that ye may perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have done in the sight of the LORD, in asking you a king.
18 사무엘이 그와 같이 주를 불렀더라. 그러자 주께서 그날 천둥과 비를 보내셨더라. 이에 모든 백성이 주와 사무엘을 대단히 크게 두려워하였더라.
18 So Samuel called unto the LORD; and the LORD sent thunder and rain that day: and all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.
19 그리고 모든 백성이 사무엘에게 말하기를, “저희가 죽지 않도록 당신의 종들을 위하여 주 당신의 하나님께 간구하소서. 이는 저희가 저희의 모든 죄들에다 저희를 위해 왕을 구하는 이 악을 더하였기 때문이니이다.” 하였더라.
19 And all the people said unto Samuel, Pray for thy servants unto the LORD thy God, that we die not: for we have added unto all our sins this evil, to ask us a king.
20 ¶ 그러자 사무엘이 백성에게 이같이 말하였더라. “두려워하지 말라. 너희가 이 모든 사악함을 행하였으나 그럼에도 너희는 주를 따르는 데서 벗어나지 말고 오직 너희의 마음을 다하여 주를 섬기라.
20 ¶ And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not: ye have done all this wickedness: yet turn not aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart;
21 그런즉 너희는 길에서 벗어나지 말라. 이는 그렇게 하면 너희가 헛된 것들을 따라갈 것이기 때문이라. 그것들이 헛되므로 그것들은 유익을 줄 수도, 너희를 구출할 수도 없느니라.
21 And turn ye not aside: for then should ye go after vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain.
22 이는 주께서 자신의 위대한 이름을 위하여 자신의 백성을 저버리지 아니하실 것이기 때문이요, 너희를 그분의 백성으로 삼으시는 것이 주를 기쁘게 해 드린 까닭이라.
22 For the LORD will not forsake his people for his great name's sake: because it hath pleased the LORD to make you his people.
23 이뿐만 아니라 나로 말하자면, 내가 너희를 위하여 기도하기를 중단함으로써 주를 대적하여 죄를 짓는 것을 하나님께서 금하시기를 바라노라. 오히려 나는 너희에게 선하고 옳은 길을 가르치겠노라.
23 Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:
24 오직 주만을 두려워하고 너희 마음을 다하여 진리 안에서 그분을 섬기라. 그리고 그분께서 너희를 위하여 얼마나 위대한 일들을 행하셨는지 숙고하라.
24 Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.
25 그러나 만일 너희가 여전히 사악하게 행하려 한다면 너희는 진멸되리니, 너희와 너희의 왕 모두 그러하리라.”
25 But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your king.
