1 그러자 키럇여아림 사람들이 와서 주의 법궤를 가지고 올라가 그것을 언덕 속에 있는 아비나답의 집 안으로 들였으니, 그의 아들 엘르아잘을 성결하게 구별하여 주의 법궤를 지키게 하였더라.
1 And the men of Kirjathjearim came, and fetched up the ark of the LORD, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the LORD.
2 그러자 법궤가 키럇여아림에 거하는 동안 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그것이 이십 년이 되었기에 그 시간이 길었더라. 그리하여 이스라엘 집 전체가 주를 구하며 애통해하였더라.
2 And it came to pass, while the ark abode in Kirjathjearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after the LORD.
3 ¶ 그런즉 사무엘이 이스라엘 집 전체에 일러 말하기를, “만일 너희가 주께 너희의 마음을 다하여 되돌아온다면 그때는 너희 가운데로부터 타국 신들과 아슈타롯을 치워 버리고 너희 마음을 주께 예비하며 그분만을 섬기라. 그리하면 그분께서 너희를 필리스티아인들의 손에서 구출하시리라.” 하였더라.
3 ¶ And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the LORD, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.
4 그때 이스라엘 자녀들이 바알들과 아슈타롯을 치워 버리고 주만을 섬겼더라.
4 Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and served the LORD only.
5 그러자 사무엘이 말하기를, “온 이스라엘을 미즈페로 모으라. 그리하면 내가 너희를 위하여 주께 기도하겠노라.” 하였더라.
5 And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpeh, and I will pray for you unto the LORD.
6 그리하여 그들이 미즈페로 한데 모여 물을 길어서 그것을 주 앞에 쏟아부었으니, 그날에 금식하며 거기서 말하기를, “저희가 주를 대적하여 죄를 지었나이다.” 하였더라. 그런즉 사무엘이 미즈페에서 이스라엘 자녀들을 재판하였더라.
6 And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drew water, and poured it out before the LORD, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against the LORD. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpeh.
7 그러자 이스라엘 자녀들이 미즈페에 함께 모였다는 것을 필리스티아인들이 들었을 때, 필리스티아인들의 군주들이 이스라엘을 대적하여 올라갔더라. 이에 이스라엘 자녀들이 그것을 듣자 그들이 필리스티아인들을 무서워하였더라.
7 And when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpeh, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines.
8 그리하여 이스라엘 자녀들이 사무엘에게 말하기를, “주 우리 하나님께서 우리를 필리스티아인들의 손에서 구원하시도록 저희를 위하여 그분께 부르짖는 것을 중단하지 마소서.” 하였더라.
8 And the children of Israel said to Samuel, Cease not to cry unto the LORD our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.
9 ¶ 그러자 사무엘이 젖 먹는 어린양 한 마리를 가져와서 그것을 번제물로 주께 통째로 바쳤더라. 그런 다음에 사무엘이 이스라엘을 위하여 주께 부르짖었더라. 그러자 주께서 그의 말을 들으셨더라.
9 ¶ And Samuel took a sucking lamb, and offered it for a burnt offering wholly unto the LORD: and Samuel cried unto the LORD for Israel; and the LORD heard him.
10 그리고 사무엘이 번제물을 올려바치는 동안 필리스티아인들이 이스라엘을 대적하여 전투하기 위해 가까이 다가왔더라. 그러나 주께서 그날에 필리스티아인들 위에 엄청난 천둥을 내리치셔서 그들을 패주시키셨더라. 그리하여 그들이 이스라엘 앞에서 패하였더라.
10 And as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel: but the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and discomfited them; and they were smitten before Israel.
11 그러자 이스라엘 남자들이 미즈페에서 나가 필리스티아인들을 추격하였으며 그들이 벧칼 아래에 이를 때까지 그들을 쳤더라.
11 And the men of Israel went out of Mizpeh, and pursued the Philistines, and smote them, until they came under Bethcar.
12 그때 사무엘이 돌을 취하여 그것을 미즈페와 셴 사이에 세웠고 그것의 이름을 에벤에젤이라 부르며 말하기를, “주께서 여기까지 우리를 도우셨도다.” 하였더라.
12 Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us.
13 ¶ 그렇게 하여 필리스티아인들이 정복되었고 그들이 더 이상 이스라엘의 지경 안으로 들어오지 못하였더라. 그런즉 사무엘의 모든 날들 동안 주의 손이 필리스티아인들을 대적하셨더라.
13 ¶ So the Philistines were subdued, and they came no more into the coast of Israel: and the hand of the LORD was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.
14 그리고 필리스티아인들이 이스라엘에게서 빼앗았던 도시들이 에크론에서 가드에 이르기까지 이스라엘에게 반환되었더라. 그리고 그곳의 지경들을 이스라엘이 필리스티아인들의 손에서 구출하였더라. 그리고 이스라엘과 아모리족들 사이에 화평이 있었더라.
14 And the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even unto Gath; and the coasts thereof did Israel deliver out of the hands of the Philistines. And there was peace between Israel and the Amorites.
15 그런즉 사무엘이 그의 생애의 모든 날들 동안 이스라엘을 재판하였더라.
15 And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.
16 그리고 그가 매해 벧엘과 길갈과 미즈페를 순회하며 이 모든 곳들에서 이스라엘을 재판하였더라.
16 And he went from year to year in circuit to Bethel, and Gilgal, and Mizpeh, and judged Israel in all those places.
17 그러고 나서 그는 라마흐로 되돌아갔으니, 거기에 그의 집이 있었기 때문이라. 그런즉 거기서 그가 이스라엘을 재판하였으며, 거기서 그가 주께 제단을 쌓았더라.
17 And his return was to Ramah; for there was his house; and there he judged Israel; and there he built an altar unto the LORD.
