1 그런즉 아이 사무엘이 엘리 앞에서 주를 섬겼더라. 그런데 주의 말씀이 당시에는 희귀하였으니, 공개된 현시가 전혀 없었더라.
1 And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision.
2 그런즉 엘리가 자기 처소 안에 뉘어지고 그의 두 눈이 흐릿해져 갔을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그가 볼 수 없었고
2 And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;
3 하나님의 법궤가 있던 주의 성전 안에서 아직 하나님의 등불이 꺼지기 전에 사무엘이 자려고 뉘어져 있었는데
3 And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;
4 주께서 사무엘을 부르셨더라. 그러자 그가 대답하기를, “제가 여기 있나이다.” 하였더라.
4 That the LORD called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.
5 그리고 그가 엘리에게 달려가서 말하기를, “제가 여기 있나이다. 이는 당신께서 저를 부르셨기 때문이니이다.” 하였더라. 그러자 그가 말하기를, “나는 부르지 아니하였노라. 다시 누우라.” 하였더라. 그런즉 그가 가서 누웠더라.
5 And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.
6 이윽고 주께서 또다시 부르시며 “사무엘아.” 하셨더라. 그러자 사무엘이 일어나 엘리에게 가서 말하기를, “제가 여기 있나이다. 이는 당신께서 저를 부르셨기 때문이니이다.” 하였더라. 그러자 그가 대답하기를, “내 아들아, 나는 부르지 아니하였노라. 다시 누우라.” 하였더라.
6 And the LORD called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.
7 이때 사무엘은 아직 주를 몰랐고, 주의 말씀도 아직 그에게 계시되지 아니하였더라.
7 Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed unto him.
8 그런즉 주께서 사무엘을 세 번째로 다시 부르셨더라. 그러자 그가 일어나서 엘리에게 가서 말하기를, “제가 여기 있나이다. 이는 당신께서 저를 부르셨기 때문이니이다.” 하였더라. 이에 엘리는 주께서 그 아이를 부르셨음을 알았더라.
8 And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child.
9 그러므로 엘리가 사무엘에게 이같이 말하였더라. “가서 누우라. 그리하면 이러한 일이 일어나리니, 만일 그분께서 너를 부르신다면, 너는 말씀드리기를, ‘당신의 종이 듣사오니, 주여, 말씀하소서.’ 하라.” 그렇게 하여 사무엘이 가서 자기 처소 안에 누웠더라.
9 Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10 그러자 주께서 오셔서 서시고 다른 때들과 같이 부르시기를, “사무엘아, 사무엘아.” 하셨더라. 그때 사무엘이 대답하기를, “당신의 종이 듣사오니, 말씀하소서.” 하였더라.
10 And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.
11 ¶ 그런즉 주께서 사무엘에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “보라, 내가 이스라엘에서 한 가지를 행하겠노라. 이로 인해 그것을 듣는 모든 자마다 자기 양쪽 귀가 울리리라.
11 ¶ And the LORD said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.
12 그날에는 내가 엘리를 대적하여 내가 그의 집에 관하여 이야기한 모든 것들을 수행하겠노라. 내가 시작할 때는 내가 끝도 맺겠노라.
12 In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.
13 이는 그가 알고 있는 죄악으로 인하여 내가 영원토록 그의 집을 심판하겠노라고 친히 그에게 알렸기 때문이니, 그의 아들들이 스스로를 타락시켰으나 그가 그들을 제지하지 아니한 까닭이라.
13 For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.
14 그리고 이런 까닭으로 내가 엘리의 집에 맹세하였으니, 엘리의 집의 죄악이 영원토록 희생 제물로도 봉헌물로도 정화되지 못하리라.”
14 And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.
15 ¶ 그리고 사무엘이 아침까지 누워 있다가 주의 집의 문들을 열었더라. 그런데 사무엘은 엘리에게 그 현시를 알리기를 두려워하였더라.
15 ¶ And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the LORD. And Samuel feared to shew Eli the vision.
16 그때 엘리가 사무엘을 불러 말하기를, “나의 아들, 사무엘아.” 하였더라. 이에 그가 대답하기를, “제가 여기 있나이다.” 하였더라.
16 Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here am I.
17 그러자 그가 말하기를, “주께서 너에게 말씀하신 것이 무엇이냐? 내가 너에게 간구하노니, 그것을 나에게서 숨기지 말라. 만일 그분께서 너에게 말씀하신 모든 것들 중에서 네가 나에게 어떤 것이라도 숨긴다면, 하나님께서 너에게 벌을 내리시고 또한 더 내리시기를 바라노라.” 하였더라.
17 And he said, What is the thing that the LORD hath said unto thee? I pray thee hide it not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide any thing from me of all the things that he said unto thee.
18 이에 사무엘이 아주 작은 것도 하나하나 모두 그에게 알렸고 그에게 아무것도 숨기지 아니하였더라. 그러자 그가 말하기를, “그분은 주시로다. 그분께서 자신이 보기에 좋은 것을 행하시리라.” 하였더라.
18 And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the LORD: let him do what seemeth him good.
19 ¶ 이후에 사무엘이 자랐고 주께서 그와 함께 계셨으니, 그분의 말씀들이 하나도 땅바닥에 떨어지지 아니하게 하셨더라.
19 ¶ And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.
20 그런즉 사무엘이 주의 예언자가 되도록 확고히 세워진 것을 단에서부터 베르셰바에 이르기까지 온 이스라엘이 알았더라.
20 And all Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the LORD.
21 그리고 주께서 실로에서 다시 나타나셨더라. 이는 주께서 실로에서 사무엘에게 주의 말씀을 통하여 자신을 계시하셨기 때문이라.
21 And the LORD appeared again in Shiloh: for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the LORD.
