1 그때 나아맛족 조팔이 대답하여 이같이 말하였더라.
1 Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,
2 “그러므로 나의 생각들이 나를 답변하게 하나니, 이것으로 인하여 내가 서두르노라.
2 Therefore do my thoughts cause me to answer, and for this I make haste.
3 내가 나를 비방하는 힐난을 들었으니, 나의 명철의 영이 나로 하여금 대답하게 하는도다.
3 I have heard the check of my reproach, and the spirit of my understanding causeth me to answer.
4 너는 사람이 땅 위에 놓여진 이후로 예로부터 이것을 모르느냐?
4 Knowest thou not this of old, since man was placed upon earth,
5 사악한 자의 승리의 기쁨은 짧고, 위선자의 즐거움은 한순간에 불과하다는 것이라.
5 That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?
6 그의 탁월함이 하늘들까지 상승하고 그의 머리가 구름들에 도달한다 해도
6 Though his excellency mount up to the heavens, and his head reach unto the clouds;
7 그럼에도 그는 자기 자신의 똥처럼 영원토록 망하리라. 그를 본 적이 있는 자들이 말하기를, ‘그가 어디 있느냐?’ 하리라.
7 Yet he shall perish for ever like his own dung: they which have seen him shall say, Where is he?
8 그가 꿈같이 날아가 버리리니, 발견되지 아니하리라. 진정 그가 멀리 축출되리니, 밤의 현시와 같으리라.
8 He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found: yea, he shall be chased away as a vision of the night.
9 그를 목격하였던 눈도 그를 더 이상 목격하지 못하리라. 또한 그의 처소는 더 이상 그를 보지 못하리라.
9 The eye also which saw him shall see him no more; neither shall his place any more behold him.
10 그의 자식들은 가난한 자들을 기쁘게 하기를 구하며 그의 두 손은 그들의 소유물들을 반환하리라.
10 His children shall seek to please the poor, and his hands shall restore their goods.
11 그의 뼈들은 그의 젊은 시절에 속한 죄로 가득하나니, 그 죄들이 그와 함께 진토 속에 누우리라.
11 His bones are full of the sin of his youth, which shall lie down with him in the dust.
12 사악함이 그의 입안에서 달콤하다 해도, 그가 그것을 그의 혀 아래에 숨긴다 해도,
12 Though wickedness be sweet in his mouth, though he hide it under his tongue;
13 그가 그것을 아끼고 그것을 저버리지 아니하며 오히려 그의 입안에 그것을 계속 간직한다 해도,
13 Though he spare it, and forsake it not; but keep it still within his mouth:
14 그럼에도 그의 음식은 그의 창자 속에서 변하나니, 그것이 그의 내부에서 독뱀들의 쓸개즙이 되는도다.
14 Yet his meat in his bowels is turned, it is the gall of asps within him.
15 그가 재물들을 아래로 삼켰을지라도 그가 그것들을 다시 토해 내리라. 하나님께서 그것들을 그의 배에서 몰아내시리라.
15 He hath swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly.
16 그는 독뱀들의 독을 빨리라. 독사의 혀가 그를 살해하리라.
16 He shall suck the poison of asps: the viper's tongue shall slay him.
17 그는 강들과 하천들과, 꿀과 버터의 시내들을 보지 못하리라.
17 He shall not see the rivers, the floods, the brooks of honey and butter.
18 그가 수고한 것을 그가 되돌려줄 것이요, 그것을 삼켜 버리지 못할 것이라. 그의 재물에 따라 변상이 이루어질 것이나 그가 그것으로 크게 기뻐하지 않을 것이라.
18 That which he laboured for shall he restore, and shall not swallow it down: according to his substance shall the restitution be, and he shall not rejoice therein.
19 이는 그가 가난한 자들을 압제하고 저버린 까닭이요, 그가 자신이 건축하지 아니한 집을 폭력적으로 빼앗아 버린 까닭이라.
19 Because he hath oppressed and hath forsaken the poor; because he hath violently taken away an house which he builded not;
20 분명히 그가 자기 뱃속에서 평강을 느끼지 못할 것이요, 그가 자신이 갈망한 것을 구해 내지 못하리라.
20 Surely he shall not feel quietness in his belly, he shall not save of that which he desired.
21 그의 음식은 남은 것이 아무것도 없으리라. 그러므로 그의 재화들을 고대하는 사람이 없으리라.
21 There shall none of his meat be left; therefore shall no man look for his goods.
22 그가 그의 충분한 역량을 완벽히 갖춘 가운데서 궁지들에 몰리리라. 사악한 자의 모든 손이 저마다 그의 위에 임하리라.
22 In the fulness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits: every hand of the wicked shall come upon him.
23 그가 자신의 배를 채우려 할 때 하나님께서 그의 진노의 노여움을 그의 위에 던지실 것이요, 그가 먹고 있는 와중에 그것을 그의 위에 내리시리라.
23 When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath upon him, and shall rain it upon him while he is eating.
24 그가 철제 무기에서 도망하여도 강철로 된 활이 그를 관통하여 찌르리라.
24 He shall flee from the iron weapon, and the bow of steel shall strike him through.
25 그것이 뽑혀서 몸에서 빠져 나오는도다. 진정 번쩍이는 칼이 그의 쓸개에서 나오는도다. 공포들이 그의 위에 임하는도다.
25 It is drawn, and cometh out of the body; yea, the glittering sword cometh out of his gall: terrors are upon him.
26 모든 어둠이 그의 비밀스러운 처소들 안에 숨겨지리라. 피우지 아니한 불이 그를 사르리라. 그것이 그의 장막 안에 남겨진 자의 곁에서 해를 가하리라.
26 All darkness shall be hid in his secret places: a fire not blown shall consume him; it shall go ill with him that is left in his tabernacle.
27 하늘이 그의 죄악을 드러내리라. 또 땅이 그를 대적하여 들고일어나리라.
27 The heaven shall reveal his iniquity; and the earth shall rise up against him.
28 그의 집의 융성함이 떠날 것이요, 그의 재화들이 그분의 진노의 날에 떠내려가리라.
28 The increase of his house shall depart, and his goods shall flow away in the day of his wrath.
29 이것이 사악한 사람이 하나님께로부터 받을 몫이요, 하나님에 의하여 그에게 지정된 상속 재산이라.”
29 This is the portion of a wicked man from God, and the heritage appointed unto him by God.
