1 이틀 뒤면 유월절과 무교절이더라. 그런데 수석 제사장들과 서기관들이 어떻게 자신들이 그분을 술수로 붙잡아 그분을 사형에 처하게 할지 모색하였더라.

After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death.

2 그러나 그들이 말하기를, “백성으로부터 소동이 일어나지 않도록 명절날에는 하지 말라.” 하였더라.

But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people.

3 ¶ 이후에 베다니에 있는 나병 환자 시몬의 집 안에서 그분께서 앉아 식사하고 계셨을 때, 한 여자가 매우 귀한 감송 향유가 든 설화 석고 함을 가지고 왔더라. 그런 다음에 그녀는 그 함을 깨뜨려 그분의 머리 위에 그것을 부었더라.

¶ And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.

4 그러자 자기들 속으로 격분하는 어떤 이들이 있었으니 이같이 말하였더라. “어찌하여 이처럼 향유를 낭비하게 되었느냐?

And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made?

5 이는 그것이 삼백 펜스6 이상으로 팔렸을 것이요, 가난한 자들에게 주어졌을 것이기 때문이라.” 그리하여 그들이 그녀를 거슬러 불평하였더라.

For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her.

6 이에 예수님께서 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “그녀를 내버려 두라. 어찌하여 너희는 그녀를 곤란하게 하느냐? 그녀는 나에게 좋은 일을 하였느니라.

And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me.

7 이는 너희가 너희 곁에 가난한 자들을 항상 두고 있으며, 너희가 원할 때마다 친히 그들에게 선을 행할 수 있기 때문이라. 그러나 너희는 언제까지나 나를 곁에 두고 있지는 못하느니라.

For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.

8 그녀는 자신이 할 수 있는 일을 하였으니, 그녀가 장사 지내는 일을 위하여 나의 몸에 기름을 붓고자 미리 온 것이라.

She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying.

9 진실로 내가 너희에게 말하노니, ‘온 세상에 걸쳐 이 복음이 선포되는 곳은 어디든지 그녀가 행한 이 일 역시 그녀를 기념하기 위하여 언급되리라.’”

Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.

10 ¶ 그러자 열둘 중 하나인 유-다 이스카리옷이 그분을 배반하여 수석 제사장들에게 넘기려고 그들에게로 갔더라.

¶ And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them.

11 그런즉 그들이 그것을 듣자 그들은 반가워하며 그에게 돈을 주기로 약속하였더라. 그러자 그가 어떻게 그분을 배반하여 손쉽게 넘길지 모색하였더라.

And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him.

12 ¶ 이후에 누룩이 들어 있지 않은 빵을 먹는 첫날이자 그들이 유월절 어린양을 잡는 날에 그분의 제자들이 그분께 말씀드리기를, “당신께서 유월절 어린양을 드실 수 있도록 우리가 어디로 가서 예비하기를 당신께서 원하시나이까?” 하였더라.

¶ And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the passover?

13 이에 그분께서 자기 제자들 중 둘을 파송하시며 그들에게 이같이 말씀하시니라. “너희는 도시 안으로 들어가라. 그리하면 거기에서 너희는 물동이를 지고 가는 남자를 만날 것이라. 그를 따라가라.

And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him.

14 그리고 그가 어디로 들어가든지 너희는 그 집의 가장에게 말하기를, ‘스승님께서 말씀하시나니, ‘내가 나의 제자들과 유월절 어린양을 먹을 객실이 어디 있느냐?’ 하신다.’ 하라.

And wheresoever he shall go in, say ye to the goodman of the house, The Master saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?

15 그리하면 그가 너희에게 갖추어지고 예비된 큰 다락방을 보여주리라. 거기서 우리를 위해 예비하라.”

And he will shew you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us.

16 그리하여 그분의 제자들이 밖으로 나가서 도시 안으로 들어갔으니, 그분께서 그들에게 말씀하신 대로 발견하였더라. 그런즉 그들이 유월절 어린양을 예비하였더라.

And his disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.

17 그러자 그분께서 그 열둘과 함께 저녁에 오시니라.

And in the evening he cometh with the twelve.

18 이에 그들이 앉아서 먹는데 예수님께서 말씀하시기를, “진실로 내가 너희에게 말하노니, ‘나와 함께 먹는 너희 중 한 명이 나를 배반할 것이라.’” 하셨느니라.

And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me.

19 그러자 그들이 비탄에 잠기며 한 명씩 그분께 말씀드리기를, “그게 저이니이까?” 하기 시작하였더라. 그런 다음에 또 다른 이가 말씀드리기를, “그게 저이니이까?” 하였더라.

And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is it I? and another said, Is it I?

20 그러자 그분께서 그들에게 대답하며 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “열둘 중 한 명이니, 곧 나와 함께 접시 안에 손을 넣는 자니라.

And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that dippeth with me in the dish.

21 정녕 인자는 그에 관하여 기록된 대로 가느니라. 그러나 그 사람에게는 화가 있기를 바라노라! 그로 인하여 인자가 배반당하리라. 차라리 그가 태어나지 않았더라면 그 편이 그 사람에게 좋았으리라.”

The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.

22 ¶ 그러고 나서 그들이 먹고 있는 동안 예수님께서 빵을 집어 복을 주신 후에 그것을 찢으시고 그들에게 주시며 말씀하시기를, “받아서 먹으라. 이것은 나의 몸이라.” 하셨느니라.

¶ And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body.

23 또한 그분께서는 잔을 집으시고 그분이 감사들을 드리신 후에 친히 그것을 그들에게 주셨으니, 그들 모두가 그것을 마셨더라.

And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it.

24 그러자 그분께서 그들에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “이것은 많은 이들을 위하여 흘려지는 새 유언 언약에 속한 나의 피니라.

And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.

25 진실로 내가 너희에게 말하노니, ‘내가 하나님의 왕국 안에서 그것을 새로 마시는 그날까지 나는 포도나무 열매에서 나는 것을 더 이상 마시지 아니하리라.’”

Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.

26 ¶ 그러고 나서 그들이 찬송 한 곡을 부른 후에 그들이 밖으로 나가 올리브산 속으로 들어갔더라.

¶ And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

27 그리고 예수님께서 그들에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “너희 모두가 이 밤에 나로 인하여 실족하게 되리라. 이는 기록되기를, ‘내가 목자를 치리니, 양들이 흩어지리라.’ 하였기 때문이라.

And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.

28 그러나 내가 살아난 뒤에는 내가 너희보다 앞서 갈릴리로 들어가겠노라.”

But after that I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee.

29 하지만 베드로가 그분께 말씀드리기를, “비록 모두가 실족하게 될지언정 그럼에도 나는 그리되지 아니하겠나이다.” 하였더라.

But Peter said unto him, Although all shall be offended, yet will not I.

30 그러자 예수님께서 그에게 말씀하시기를, “진실로 내가 너에게 말하노니, ‘이날, 바로 이 밤에 수탉이 두 번 울기 전 너는 나를 세 번 부인하리라.’” 하시니라.

And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice.

31 그러나 그는 더욱 격렬하게 말씀드렸더라. “제가 당신과 함께 죽을지언정 저는 절대로 당신을 부인하지 아니하겠나이다.” 그들 모두도 이와 같이 말씀드렸더라.

But he spake the more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise. Likewise also said they all.

32 그러자 그들이 겟세마네란 이름으로 불리는 곳에 이르렀으니, 그분께서 자신의 제자들에게 말씀하시기를, “내가 기도할 동안에 너희는 여기 앉아 있으라.” 하시니라.

And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray.

33 그러고 나서 그분께서는 베드로와 야고보와 요한을 자신과 함께 데리고 가셨더라. 그러고는 심히 놀라고 몹시 힘겨워하기 시작하셨더라.

And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;

34 그러면서 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “내 혼이 극도로 슬퍼 죽을 지경이라. 너희는 여기 머무르면서 깨어 있으라.” 하시니라.

And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.

35 그런 다음에 그분께서 조금 앞으로 가셔서 땅바닥에 엎드리셨으며, 가능하다면 그 시각이 자신에게서 지나갈 수 있기를 기도하셨더라.

And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.

36 그런즉 그분께서 말씀하시기를, “아바, 아버지, 모든 것들이 당신께 가능하나이다. 이 잔을 제게서 옮겨 주옵소서. 그럼에도 불구하고 제가 원하는 것이 아니라 당신께서 원하시는 것을 하옵소서.” 하셨느니라.

And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.

37 그런 다음에 그분께서 오시니 그들이 잠든 것을 발견하시고 베드로에게 이같이 말씀하시니라. “시몬아, 네가 자느냐? 네가 한 시간도 깨어 있을 수 없더냐?

And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?

38 너희가 시험에 들지 않도록 너희는 깨어 기도하라. 참으로 영은 준비되었으나 육신이 약하도다.”

Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.

39 이에 다시금 그분께서 떠나가시어 기도하셨으니, 같은 말씀들로 고하셨더라.

And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words.

40 그런 다음에 그분께서 되돌아오시어 그들이 다시금 잠든 것을 그분께서 발견하셨을 때 (이는 그들의 눈이 무거웠기 때문이라.) 그들은 그분께 무엇이라 대답해야 할지도 몰랐더라.

And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him.

41 그리고 그분께서 세 번째 오시어 그들에게 이같이 말씀하시니라. “너희는 이제 그대로 자고 쉬라. 충분하도다. 그 시각이 왔노라. 보라, 인자가 배반당하여 죄인들의 손안에 넘겨지느니라.

And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

42 일어나라. 우리가 함께 가자. 보라, 나를 배반하는 자가 벌써 도착했도다.”

Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.

43 ¶ 그러자 그분께서 아직 이야기하시는 동안에 즉시 열두 명 중 하나인 유-다가 오니, 수석 제사장들과 서기관들과 장로들로부터 온 수많은 무리가 칼들과 몽둥이들을 들고 그와 함께 있더라.

¶ And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.

44 그리고 그분을 배반한 자는 그들에게 한 징표를 주며 말하기를, “누구든지 내가 입 맞추는 자가 바로 그니라. 그를 잡은 다음에 안전하게 그를 끌고 가라.” 하였더라.

And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely.

45 그런즉 그가 오자마자 그가 즉각 그분께 가서, “스승님, 스승님.” 하고 말씀드리니라. 그러고는 그분께 입 맞추었더라.

And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, master; and kissed him.

46 ¶ 그러자 그들이 그분께 자신들의 손을 대어 그분을 붙들었더라.

¶ And they laid their hands on him, and took him.

47 그런데 곁에 서 있던 자들 중 하나가 칼을 뽑아 대제사장의 종 한 명을 쳤고 그의 귀를 잘라 버렸더라.

And one of them that stood by drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.

48 그러자 예수님께서 그들에게 대응하여 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “너희가 도둑을 대적하는 것처럼 나를 잡으려고 칼들과 몽둥이들을 들고 나아왔느냐?

And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me?

49 내가 매일 성전 안에서 가르치며 너희와 함께 있었는데 너희는 나를 잡지 않았도다. 그러나 성경 기록들은 반드시 성취되어야만 하리라.”

I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled.

50 그러자 그들 모두가 그분을 버리고 도망하였더라.

And they all forsook him, and fled.

51 그리고 어떤 청년 한 명이 자신의 알몸에 아마천을 두른 채 그분을 따르고 있었는데 청년들이 그를 붙잡았더라.

And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:

52 그러자 그가 그 아마천을 남겨 두고 벌거벗은 채 그들에게서 도망하였더라.

And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.

53 ¶ 그리하여 그들이 예수님을 대제사장에게로 끌고 갔으니, 모든 수석 제사장들과 장로들과 서기관들이 그와 함께 결집하였더라.

¶ And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.

54 그리고 베드로는 멀리 떨어져 그분을 따라갔으니, 대제사장의 관저 안에까지 따라갔더라. 그러고는 그가 종들과 함께 앉아서 불을 쬐며 자신의 몸을 따뜻하게 하였더라.

And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.

55 그리고 수석 제사장들과 온 공회가 예수님을 사형에 처하게 하려고 그분을 대적하는 증거를 찾았으나 아무것도 발견하지 못하였더라.

And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.

56 이는 많은 이가 그분을 대적하여 거짓으로 증거하였으나 그들의 증거가 서로 부합하지 않았기 때문이라.

For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.

57 그러자 어떤 이들이 일어났으니, 그분을 대적하여 거짓으로 증거하며 이같이 말하였더라.

And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,

58 “그가 말하기를, ‘내가 사람들의 손으로 지어진 이 성전을 파괴하리라. 그런 다음에 삼 일 안에 내가 사람들의 손으로 지어지지 아니한 다른 성전을 짓겠노라.’ 하는 것을 우리가 들었나이다.”

We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.

59 그러나 그들의 증거마저도 이처럼 서로 부합하지 않았더라.

But neither so did their witness agree together.

60 그러자 대제사장이 중간에 일어나서 예수님께 물으며 말하기를, “너는 아무것도 대답하지 않느냐? 이들이 너를 대적하여 증거를 대는 것이 어떠하냐?” 하였더라.

And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?

61 그러나 그분께서 자신의 침묵을 지키시고 아무것도 대답하지 아니하셨더라. 다시금 대제사장이 그분께 물으며 그분께 말하기를, “네가 찬양받으시는 분의 아들인 그리스도냐?” 하였더라.

But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?

62 그러자 예수님께서 말씀하시기를, “그가 나니라. 그리고 너희는 인자가 권능의 오른편에 앉아 있는 것과 하늘의 구름들 가운데 오는 것을 보리라.” 하셨느니라.

And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

63 그때 대제사장이 자기 옷을 찢으며 이같이 말하니라. “우리에게 더 이상 다른 증인들이 어찌 필요하리오?

Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?

64 너희가 신성 모독을 들었도다. 너희는 어떻게 생각하느냐?” 그러자 그들 모두가 그분을 사형에 처해야 한다고 정죄하였더라.

Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.

65 그러면서 일부는 그분께 침을 뱉고 그분의 얼굴을 가리고 주먹으로 그분을 때리며 그분께 말하기를, “예언해 보라.” 하기 시작하였더라. 그러면서 종들이 그분을 그들의 손바닥으로 내리쳤더라.

And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.

66 ¶ 또한 베드로가 관저 안 아래쪽에 있었을 때 대제사장의 하녀들 중 하나가 오니라.

¶ And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest:

67 그리고 그녀는 베드로가 자신의 몸을 녹이는 것을 보았을 때 그녀가 그를 바라보며 말하기를, “그런데 당신 역시 나사렛 예수님과 함께 있었도다.” 하였더라.

And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.

68 그러나 그가 부인하며 말하기를, “네가 말하는 것을 나는 모르며, 내가 이해하지도 못하노라.” 하였더라. 그러면서 그가 나가서 현관 안으로 들어갔더니, 수탉이 울었더라.

But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew.

69 그런 다음에 하녀 한 명이 다시금 그를 보고 곁에 서 있던 자들에게, “이 사람은 저들 중 하나라.” 하고 말하기 시작하였더라.

And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them.

70 그러자 그가 다시금 그것을 부인하였더라. 그리고 조금 있다가 곁에 서 있던 자들이 베드로에게 다시 말하기를, “너는 확실히 그들 중 하나라. 이는 네가 갈릴리인이기 때문이니, 네 말투가 거기에 부합하는도다.” 하였더라.

And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth thereto.

71 그러나 그가 저주하고 맹세하기 시작하며 말하기를, “나는 너희가 언급한 이 사람을 모르노라.” 하였더라.

But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak.

72 그러자 두 번째로 수탉이 울었더라. 이에 베드로가 그 말씀을 떠올렸으니, 곧 예수님께서 그에게 말씀하시기를, “수탉이 두 번 울기 전에 네가 나를 세 번 부인하리라.” 하셨던 것이라. 그러고는 그가 그것에 대해 생각하였을 때 그는 울었더라.

And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.
