1 이후에 그분께서 다시금 해변가에서 가르치기 시작하셨는데 수많은 무리가 그분께로 모였더라. 그렇게 되자 그분께서 선박 안으로 들어가시어 바다 가운데 앉으셨으니, 온 무리가 바닷가에 있는 육지에 있었더라.

And he began again to teach by the sea side: and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered into a ship, and sat in the sea; and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land.

2 그리하여 그분께서 비유들로 많은 것들을 그들에게 가르치셨는데 그분의 교리로 그들에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라.

And he taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine,

3 “경청하라. 보라, 씨 뿌리는 자가 씨 뿌리러 나갔도다.

Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow:

4 그리고 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그가 씨 뿌리는 동안 일부는 길가에 떨어졌는데 공중의 날짐승들이 와서 그것을 집어삼켜 버렸더라.

And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.

5 그런 다음에 일부는 돌이 많은 토양에 떨어졌는데 그곳에는 흙이 많지 않았더라. 그리하여 그것이 즉시 싹을 틔웠으니, 흙이 깊지 않았기 때문이라.

And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth:

6 그러나 해가 뜨자 그것이 타 버렸으니, 그 싹이 뿌리가 없어 그것이 시들어 버렸기 때문이라.

But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.

7 그런 다음에 어떤 씨는 가시나무들 사이에 떨어졌는데 가시나무들이 자라서 그 씨의 성장을 저지하였으므로 그것이 열매를 내지 못하였더라.

And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.

8 그런 다음에 다른 씨들은 좋은 토양에 떨어졌는데 싹을 틔우고 융성하여 열매를 내었으니, 일부는 삼십 배, 일부는 육십 배, 일부는 일백 배를 내었더라.”

And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred.

9 그런즉 그분께서 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “들을 귀들이 있는 자, 그는 들을지어다.” 하셨더라.

And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

10 이후에 그분께서 홀로 계셨을 때, 그분 주위에 있던 자들이 열두 제자와 함께 그 비유에 대해 그분께 여쭈었더라.

And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable.

11 그러자 그분께서 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “너희에게는 하나님의 왕국 신비를 알도록 주어지나 밖에 있는 자들에게는 이 모든 것들이 비유들로 행하여졌노라.” 하셨더라.

And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:

12 이는 그들로 하여금 보기는 보아도 알지 못하게 하고, 그들로 하여금 듣기는 들어도 이해하지 못하게 하며, 어느 때라도 그들이 회심하여 그들의 죄들이 그들에게서 용서되지 않게 하려 함이라.

That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

13 그런즉 그분께서 그들에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “너희가 이 비유를 모르겠느냐? 그렇다면 어떻게 너희가 모든 비유들을 알겠느냐?

And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables?

14 ¶ 그 씨 뿌리는 자는 말씀을 뿌리느니라.

¶ The sower soweth the word.

15 그리고 말씀이 뿌려진 길가에 있는 것들은 이들이니, 오히려 그들이 말씀을 들을 때 사탄이 즉시 와서 그들의 마음속에 뿌려진 그 말씀을 빼앗아 버리느니라.

And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

16 그다음 이와 동일하게 돌이 많은 토양에 뿌려진 것들은 이들이니, 그들은 자신들이 말씀을 들을 때 즉시 그것을 기쁨으로 받아들이느니라.

And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;

17 그런데 그들 안에는 뿌리가 없어서 한때만 그렇게 견디다가 그 뒤에 말씀으로 인하여 고난이나 박해가 생기면 그들은 즉시 실족하게 되느니라.

And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.

18 그다음 가시나무들 사이에 뿌려진 것들은 이들이니, 말씀을 들으나

And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,

19 이 세상의 염려들과 재물들의 가득한 속임수와 다른 것들에 대한 정욕들이 들어오고 말씀의 성장을 저지하여 그것이 열매 없는 자들이 되느니라.

And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

20 그리고 좋은 토양에 뿌려진 것들은 이들이니, 말씀을 듣고 그것을 받아들여 일부는 삼십 배, 일부는 육십 배, 일부는 일백 배의 열매를 내는 자들과 같으니라.”

And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.

21 ¶ 그러고 나서 그분께서 그들에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “불빛이 부셸 되1 아래나 침상 아래에 놓이기 위하여 옮겨지느냐? 오히려 등잔대 위에 놓이려 함이 아니냐?

¶ And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?

22 이는 감추어진 것 중에서 아무것도 명백하게 드러나지 않을 것이 없고, 어떤 것도 비밀로 지켜진 것이 없으니, 오히려 그것이 널리 퍼져 나갈 것이기 때문이라.

For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.

23 누구든 들을 귀들이 있다면 그는 들을지어다.”

If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.

24 그러고 나서 그분께서 그들에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “너희가 무엇을 듣는지 주의하라. 너희가 어떠한 척도로 재든지 너희도 그것으로 측정될 것이라. 그리고 듣는 너희에게 더 많이 주어질 것이라.

And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.

25 이는 가진 자, 그에게는 주어질 것이요, 가지지 못한 자, 그로부터는 자신이 가진 것마저도 빼앗길 것이기 때문이라.”

For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.

26 ¶ 그런 다음에 그분께서 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “하나님의 왕국은 이와 같으니, 마치 사람이 씨를 흩뿌려 토양 속에 심는 것 같도다.

¶ And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;

27 그리하여 그가 밤낮 자고 일어날 것이며, 그 씨는 싹을 틔우고 자라날 터이나, 어떻게 그리 되는 것인지는 그가 모르느니라.

And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.

28 이는 땅이 그녀 스스로 열매를 내기 때문이니, 처음에는 이파리요, 다음에는 이삭이요, 그 뒤에는 이삭 안에 꽉 찬 곡식이라.

For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.

29 그러나 열매가 맺히면 즉시 그가 낫을 대나니, 수확할 때가 이르렀기 때문이라.”

But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.

30 ¶ 또 그분께서 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “우리가 하나님의 왕국을 어디에 비유할까? 혹은 우리가 무엇과 대조하여 그것을 비교할까?

¶ And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it?

31 그것은 마치 겨자씨 한 알과 같으니, 겨자씨는 그것이 땅속에 뿌려질 때 땅속에 있는 모든 씨들보다 작으나

It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth:

32 겨자씨가 뿌려지면 그것은 자라나서 모든 야채들보다 더 커지고 커다란 가지들을 밖으로 내느니라. 그렇게 하여 공중의 날짐승들이 그것의 그림자 아래에 깃드느니라.”

But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.

33 그런즉 그분께서 그들이 그것을 알아들을 수 있는 만큼 그와 같이 많은 비유들로 그들에게 말씀을 전하셨더라.

And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it.

34 그러나 그분께서 아무런 비유 없이는 그들에게 말씀하지 아니하셨으며, 그들끼리만 있을 때 그분께서 모든 것들을 자신의 제자들에게 자세히 설명해 주셨더라.

But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.

35 그리고 같은 날 저녁이 되자, 그분께서 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “우리가 반대편으로 넘어가자.” 하시더라.

And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.

36 그리하여 그들이 무리를 돌려보냈을 때 그들은 그분께서 선박 안에 계신 그대로 그분을 모셔 갔더라. 그리고 다른 작은 선박들도 그분과 함께하였더라.

And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.

37 그런데 바람이 거센 커다란 폭풍이 일어나서 파도들이 선박 안으로 들이쳤으니, 그렇게 되자 이제 선박이 물로 가득 찼더라.

And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.

38 그런데 그분께서는 선박의 뒤편에서 베개를 베고 잠드셨더라. 그러자 그들이 그분을 깨우며 그분께 말씀드리기를, “스승님, 우리가 죽는데 당신께서는 개의치 아니하시나이까?” 하니라.

And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

39 그러자 그분께서 일어나시어 바람을 꾸짖으시며 바다에게 말씀하시기를, “평온하라. 잔잔하라.” 하셨더라. 그러자 바람이 그쳤으니, 대단히 고요하게 되었더라.

And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

40 그러고는 그분께서 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “어찌하여 너희는 그토록 두려워하느냐? 너희에게 믿음이 없으니 어찌 된 것이냐?” 하셨더라.

And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?

41 그러자 그들이 지극히 두려워하며 서로 말하기를, “이분은 어떤 부류의 사람이시기에 심지어 바람과 바다도 그분께 순종하는가?” 하였더라.

And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
