1 이후에 그분께서 거기로부터 떠나시어 자기 자신의 고향으로 들어가셨으니, 그분의 제자들이 그분을 따르더라.

And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him.

2 그리고 안식일이 되자 그분께서 회당 안에서 가르치기 시작하셨고 많은 이들이 그분의 말씀을 듣고서는 깜짝 놀라며 이같이 말하였더라. “어디에서 이 사람은 이런 것들을 얻었는가? 또 그에게 주어지는 이 지혜는 어떠하기에 심지어 이와 같은 막강한 역사들까지도 그의 두 손에 의하여 일어나는가?

And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?

3 이 자는 마리아의 아들이자 야고보와 요세스와 유-다와 시몬의 형제인 목수가 아니냐? 또한 그의 누이들이 우리와 함께 여기 있지 아니하냐?” 그런즉 그들은 그분에게 실족하게 되었더라.

Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

4 그러나 예수님께서는 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “예언자는 자기 자신의 고향과 자기 자신의 친척과 자기 자신의 집 외에는 존경을 받지 아니하는 일이 없느니라.” 하셨더라.

But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.

5 그리하여 그분께서 몇몇 환자에게만 친히 자신의 두 손으로 안수하시어 그들을 치유해 주신 일을 제외하고는 거기서 능력의 역사를 행하실 수 없으셨더라.

And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.

6 그런즉 그분께서 그들의 불신으로 인하여 이상히 여기셨더라. 그러고 나서 친히 촌락들을 돌아다니며 가르치셨더라.

And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.

7 ¶ 그런 다음에 그분께서 열둘을 자신에게로 부르셨고 그들을 둘씩 둘씩 파송하기 시작하셨으며 불결한 영들을 제압하는 권능을 그들에게 부여하셨더라.

¶ And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;

8 그리고 그들에게 명령하시어 그들로 하여금 자신들의 여정을 위해 아무것도 가지고 가지 말라고 하셨더라. 단지 지팡이 하나를 제외하고는 보따리도, 빵도, 그들의 지갑 안에 돈도 지니지 말라고 하셨으며,

And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse:

9 다만 가죽끈으로 매는 신발들만 신고 두 벌의 웃옷도 걸치지 말라고 하셨더라.

But be shod with sandals; and not put on two coats.

10 이어서 그분께서 그들에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “어떤 곳에서든지 너희가 어떤 집 안으로 들어가면 너희는 그곳을 떠날 때까지 거기에 거하라.

And he said unto them, In what place soever ye enter into an house, there abide till ye depart from that place.

11 그리고 누구든지 너희를 받아들이려 하지 아니하고 너희 말을 들으려 하지 않거든, 너희가 거기에서 떠날 때 그들을 대적하는 간증으로서 너희 두 발 밑의 먼지를 떨어내 버리라. 진실로 내가 너희에게 말하노니, 소돔과 고모-라가 심판의 날에 그 도시보다 더 버티기 쉬우리라.”

And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

12 그러자 그들이 나가서 사람들에게 회개해야 한다고 선포하였더라.

And they went out, and preached that men should repent.

13 그리고 그들이 많은 마귀들을 쫓아냈으며 많은 병든 자들에게 기름을 발라서 그들을 치유하였더라.

And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.

14 그리하여 헤롯왕이 그분에 관해 들었더라. (이는 그분의 이름이 널리 퍼졌기 때문이라.) 그런즉 그가 말하기를, “침례자 요한이 죽은 자들로부터 살아났으므로 막강한 역사들이 그 안에서 스스로 나타나는도다.” 하였더라.

And king Herod heard of him; (for his name was spread abroad:) and he said, That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.

15 다른 이들은 말하기를 “엘리-야다.” 하였고, 또 다른 이들은 말하기를 “예언자이거나 예언자들 중 한 명 같다.” 하였더라.

Others said, That it is Elias. And others said, That it is a prophet, or as one of the prophets.

16 그러나 헤롯이 그것에 관하여 들었을 때, 그가 말하기를, “내가 목을 벤 요한이로다. 그가 죽은 자들로부터 살아났도다.” 하였더라.

But when Herod heard thereof, he said, It is John, whom I beheaded: he is risen from the dead.

17 이는 헤롯이 직접 사람을 보내어 요한을 붙잡았으며, 그의 형제 빌립의 아내인 헤로디아스로 인하여 그를 감옥 안에 결박해 두었기 때문이니, 그가 그녀와 혼인한 까닭이라.

For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife: for he had married her.

18 이는 요한이 헤롯에게 말하기를, “당신께서 당신의 형제의 아내를 취하는 것은 합법적이지 아니하나이다.” 하였기 때문이라.

For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife.

19 그러므로 헤로디아스가 그를 대적하여 반발하였고 그를 죽이려고 하였으나 그녀가 할 수 없었더라.

Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but she could not:

20 이는 헤롯이 요한을 의인이자 거룩한 사람으로 알고 있어 그를 두려워하였고 그의 말을 준수하였기 때문이니, 그가 그의 말을 들었을 때 그는 많은 것들을 실행하며 그의 말을 기쁘게 들었더라.

For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.

21 그런데 적절한 날이 왔으니, 헤롯이 자기 생일에 자신의 고관들과 고위 대장들과 갈릴리의 최고위 계층들에게 만찬을 마련하였을 때라.

And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, high captains, and chief estates of Galilee;

22 그러자 앞서 언급된 헤로디아스의 딸이 들어와 춤을 추어 헤롯과 그와 함께 앉아 있던 자들을 기쁘게 하였을 때 왕이 그 젊은 여인에게 말하기를, “네가 원하는 것은 무엇이나 나에게 구하라. 그리하면 내가 그것을 너에게 주리라.” 하였더라.

And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.

23 그리고 그가 그녀에게 맹세하여, “네가 나에게 구하는 것은 무엇이라도 내가 그것을 너에게 주리니, 내 왕국의 절반까지도 주리라.” 하였더라.

And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom.

24 그러자 그녀가 밖으로 나가서 그녀의 어머니에게 말하기를, “제가 무엇을 구하리이까?” 하였으니 그녀가 말하기를, “침례자 요한의 머리라.” 하였더라.

And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.

25 그런즉 그녀가 즉각 왕에게로 서둘러 들어가서 구하며 말하기를, “제가 소원하는 바는 조만간 당신께서 침례자 요한의 머리를 쟁반에 담아 제게 주시는 것이니이다.” 하였더라.

And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptist.

26 그러자 왕이 지극히 애석해하였더라. 그럼에도 불구하고 자신의 맹세와 그와 함께 앉아 있던 그들로 인하여 그가 그녀의 요청을 거절하려 하지 아니하였더라.

And the king was exceeding sorry; yet for his oath's sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not reject her.

27 이에 왕이 즉시 한 사형 집행인을 보내어 그의 머리를 대령할 것을 명령하였으니, 그가 가서 감옥 안에서 그를 참수하였더라.

And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prison,

28 그런 다음에 그의 머리를 쟁반에 담아 대령하여 그 젊은 여인에게 그것을 주었더라. 그러자 그 젊은 여인이 그것을 그녀의 어머니에게 주었더라.

And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the damsel: and the damsel gave it to her mother.

29 그런즉 그의 제자들이 그것에 관하여 들었을 때, 그들은 와서 요한의 시체를 수습하였고 그것을 묘지 안에 안치하였더라.

And when his disciples heard of it, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.

30 그러고 나서 사도들이 자기들끼리 한데 모여 예수님께 이르러 그분께 모든 일들, 곧 그들이 행한 것과 그들이 가르친 것 모두를 알렸더라.

And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught.

31 이후에 그분께서 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “너희는 외딴곳으로 너희끼리 따로 가서 잠시 쉬라.” 하셨느니라. 이는 오고 가는 많은 이들이 있어서 그들이 식사할 겨를조차 전혀 없었기 때문이라.

And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.

32 그리하여 그들이 배를 타고 외딴곳으로 은밀하게 떠났더라.

And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.

33 그러자 그들이 떠나는 것을 백성이 보았는데 많은 이들이 그분을 알았기에 모든 도시들에서 나와 도보로 거기에 달려갔고 그들보다 앞서 가서 그분께로 함께 나아왔더라.

And the people saw them departing, and many knew him, and ran afoot thither out of all cities, and outwent them, and came together unto him.

34 그러자 예수님께서 친히 나오셔서 많은 사람들을 보셨으며 그들을 향한 연민으로 마음이 움직이셨더라. 이는 그들이 목자 없는 양들과 같았기 때문이라. 그리하여 그분께서 그들에게 많은 것들을 가르치기 시작하셨더라.

And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.

35 그런데 이제 그날이 상당히 저물었을 때 그분의 제자들이 그분께 나아와서 이같이 말씀드렸더라. “이곳은 외딴곳이며 이제 시간이 상당히 지났나이다.

And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed:

36 그들을 돌려보내셔서 그들로 하여금 주변에 있는 지방으로 들어가게 하시고 촌락들 안으로도 들어가게 하시어 스스로 빵을 구입하게 하소서. 이는 그들에게 먹을 것이 아무것도 없기 때문이니이다.”

Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat.

37 그분께서 그들에게 대답하여 말씀하시기를, “너희가 그들에게 먹을 것을 주라.” 하셨더라. 그러자 그들이 그분께 말씀드리기를, “우리가 가서 이백 페니에 해당하는 빵을 구입하고 그들에게 먹으라고 주리이까?” 하니라.

He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat?

38 그분께서 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “너희가 가진 빵 덩이들이 얼마나 되느냐? 가서 알아보라.” 하시니, 그들은 자신들이 알게 되었을 때 말씀드리기를, “다섯 덩이와 물고기 두 마리니이다.” 하니라.

He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes.

39 그러자 그분께서 그들에게 명령하시어 모두를 푸른 잔디 위에 일행들별로 앉게 하라고 하셨더라.

And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass.

40 그러자 그들이 일백 명씩 그리고 오십 명씩 여러 줄로 앉았더라.

And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties.

41 그리하여 그분께서 빵 다섯 덩이와 물고기 두 마리를 취하셨을 때, 친히 하늘을 우러러보시며 복을 주셨고 그 빵 덩이들을 찢으셨으며 그들 앞에 놓으라고 그것들을 자신의 제자들에게 주셨더라. 그리고 그분께서 두 마리의 물고기를 그들 모두 가운데서 나누어 주셨더라.

And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.

42 그리하여 그들이 모두 먹고 배가 채워졌더라.

And they did all eat, and were filled.

43 그런 다음에 그들이 빵 조각들과 물고기들로 꽉 찬 열두 바구니를 거두었더라.

And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes.

44 그런즉 빵 덩이들을 먹은 자들이 약 오천 명의 남자들이었더라.

And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men.

45 그런 다음에 그분께서 즉각 제자들에게 강권하시어 자신이 백성을 돌려보내는 동안 선박을 타고 저편 벧새다까지 앞서 가게 하셨더라.

And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go to the other side before unto Bethsaida, while he sent away the people.

46 그리하여 그분께서 그들을 돌려보내신 뒤에 자신은 어떤 산속으로 기도하러 떠나셨더라.

And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray.

47 그리고 저녁이 되자 그 선박은 바다 한가운데 있었으며 그분께서는 홀로 육지에 계셨더라.

And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land.

48 이후에 그분께서 그들이 노를 젓느라 애쓰는 것을 보셨더라. 이는 바람이 그들에게 역방향이었기 때문이라. 그리하여 제사경쯤 되는 밤에 그분께서 그들에게 오시는데 바다 위를 걸으시며 그들 옆을 지나가려 하시더라.

And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.

49 그러나 그들이 바다 위를 걷고 계시는 그분을 목격하였을 때 그들은 그것이 어떤 영이라고 추측하여 소리를 질렀더라.

But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out:

50 이는 그들 모두가 그분을 보고는 불안해하였기 때문이라. 그러자 즉시 그분께서 그들과 대화하셨으니 그들에게 이같이 말씀하시기를, “좋은 기운을 내라. 나로다. 무서워하지 말라.” 하시니라.

For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.

51 그러고 나서 그분께서 그들을 향해 선박 안으로 올라오셨더라. 그러자 바람이 그쳤더라. 그리하여 그들은 자기들끼리 매우 심히 놀라워하며 경이로워하였더라.

And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered.

52 이는 그들의 마음이 완악해진 탓에 그들이 빵 덩이들의 기적을 숙고하지 아니하였기 때문이라.

For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.

53 이후에 그들이 넘어간 뒤에 그들은 게네사렛 지역으로 들어가서 물가에 도달하였더라.

And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore.

54 그리하여 그들이 선박에서 내리자 즉각 백성들이 그분을 알아보았기에,

And when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew him,

55 그 구역 주변을 온통 여기저기 뛰어다니며, 그들이 그분께서 계시다고 들은 곳으로 병든 자들을 침상들에 뉘어 이송하기 시작하였더라.

And ran through that whole region round about, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was.

56 그리하여 그분께서 안으로 들어가시는 곳은 촌락들이나 도시들이나 지방이나 어디라 할지라도 그들이 병든 자들을 거리들에 눕혀 두었고, 그분의 의복 자락만이라도 그들이 그것을 만질 수 있게 해달라고 그분께 간청하였더라. 그러자 그분을 만지는 자들은 다 온전해졌더라.

And whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.
