1 이때 예언자들의 아들들의 아내들 중 어떤 여자 한 명이 엘리사에게 부르짖으며 말하기를, “제 남편인 당신의 종이 죽었으니, 당신의 종이 주를 두려워하였음을 당신께서 아시나이다. 그런데 채권자가 제 두 아들들을 노예들로 삼아 자신에게로 취하려고 왔나이다.” 하였더라.

Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.

2 그러자 엘리사가 그녀에게 말하기를, “내가 너를 위하여 무엇을 하랴? 네가 집 안에 무엇을 가지고 있는지 나에게 알려 달라.” 하였더라. 이에 그녀가 말하기를, “당신의 몸종은 기름 한 항아리를 제외하고는 집 안에 가지고 있는 것이 아무것도 없나이다.” 하였더라.

And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.

3 그때 그가 이같이 말하였더라. “가서 너를 위해 널리 너의 모든 이웃들에게 그릇들, 곧 빈 그릇들을 빌려 오되 몇 개만 빌리지 말라.

Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.

4 그리고 네가 들어올 때면 너는 너와 너의 아들들 뒤로 문을 닫을지니라. 그리고 그 모든 그릇들 안에 기름을 따라 부을지니라. 그리고 너는 가득 찬 것을 따로 놓을지니라.”

And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.

5 그렇게 하여 그녀가 그를 떠나서 그녀와 그녀에게 그릇들을 가져온 그녀의 아들들 뒤로 문을 닫았더라. 그런 다음에 그녀가 기름을 따라 부었더라.

So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out.

6 그러자 그릇들이 가득 찼을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그녀가 그녀의 아들에게 말하기를, “나에게 그릇 하나를 또 가져오라.” 하였더라. 그런데 그가 그녀에게 말하기를, “더 이상 그릇이 하나도 없나이다.” 하였더라. 그러자 기름이 그쳤더라.

And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.

7 그때 그녀가 하나님의 사람에게 와서 알렸더라. 그러자 그가 말하기를, “가라. 그 기름을 팔아서 너의 빚을 갚고 나머지로 너와 너의 자식들이 생활하라.” 하였더라.

Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.

8 ¶ 그리고 하루는 엘리사가 슈넴을 지나는 일이 생겼는데 그곳에는 훌륭한 여인 한 명이 있었더라. 그런즉 그녀가 그에게 빵을 먹을 것을 강하게 권하였더라. 이후에 이와 같은 일이 있었으니, 그가 자신이 지나다닐 때마다 자주 빵을 먹으러 그 안에 들렀더라.

¶ And it fell on a day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where was a great woman; and she constrained him to eat bread. And so it was, that as oft as he passed by, he turned in thither to eat bread.

9 이에 그녀는 자신의 남편에게 이같이 말하였더라. “이제 보소서, 지속적으로 우리 곁을 지나다니는 이분이 하나님의 거룩한 사람이심을 제가 알아차렸나이다.

And she said unto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is an holy man of God, which passeth by us continually.

10 제가 당신께 간구하오니, 우리가 담 위에 작은 개인실 하나를 만드는 것을 허락하소서. 그리고 우리가 거기에 그를 위하여 침상 하나와 식탁 하나와 걸상 하나와 등잔대 하나를 배치하는 것을 허락하소서. 그리하면 그가 우리에게 올 때 이러한 일이 있으리니, 그가 그안으로 돌이키리이다.”

Let us make a little chamber, I pray thee, on the wall; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick: and it shall be, when he cometh to us, that he shall turn in thither.

11 그런즉 하루는 그가 그곳으로 올 일이 생겼으니, 그가 돌이켜 그 개인실 안으로 들어가서 거기에 누웠더라.

And it fell on a day, that he came thither, and he turned into the chamber, and lay there.

12 그리고 그가 자신의 종 게하지에게 말하기를, “이 슈남족 여인을 부르라.” 하였더라. 그리하여 그가 그녀를 부르자 그녀가 그의 앞에 섰더라.

And he said to Gehazi his servant, Call this Shunammite. And when he had called her, she stood before him.

13 그리고 그가 그에게 이같이 말하였더라. “지금 그녀에게 말하기를, ‘보라, 네가 이 모든 배려로 우리를 배려해 왔도다. 너를 위하여 무엇이 이루어지기를 바라느냐? 네가 왕에게나 군대 대장에게 전해졌으면 하는 것이 있느냐?’ 하라.” 이에 그녀가 대답하기를, “저는 제 자신의 백성 가운데 거하나이다.” 하였더라.

And he said unto him, Say now unto her, Behold, thou hast been careful for us with all this care; what is to be done for thee? wouldest thou be spoken for to the king, or to the captain of the host? And she answered, I dwell among mine own people.

14 그런즉 그가 말하기를, “그렇다면 그녀를 위하여 무엇이 이루어지면 좋으랴?” 하였더라. 이에 게하지가 대답하기를, “진실로 그녀에게는 자식이 없고 그녀의 남편은 늙었나이다.” 하였더라.

And he said, What then is to be done for her? And Gehazi answered, Verily she hath no child, and her husband is old.

15 그러자 그가 말하기를, “그녀를 부르라.” 하였더라. 그런즉 그가 그녀를 불렀을 때 그녀가 문에 섰더라.

And he said, Call her. And when he had called her, she stood in the door.

16 이에 그가 말하기를, “이 시기쯤 생명의 때에 따라 네가 한 아들을 안으리라.” 하였더라. 그러자 그녀가 말하기를, “나의 주여, 아니니이다. 하나님의 사람이신 당신이여, 당신의 몸종에게 거짓말을 하지 마소서.” 하였더라.

And he said, About this season, according to the time of life, thou shalt embrace a son. And she said, Nay, my lord, thou man of God, do not lie unto thine handmaid.

17 그런데 그 여자가 임신하였으니, 생명의 때에 따라 엘리사가 그녀에게 말한 그 시기에 한 아들을 낳았더라.

And the woman conceived, and bare a son at that season that Elisha had said unto her, according to the time of life.

18 ¶ 그리고 그 아이가 자랐을 때 하루는 그가 수확꾼들이 있는 자기 아버지에게 나간 일이 생겼더라.

¶ And when the child was grown, it fell on a day, that he went out to his father to the reapers.

19 그런데 그가 자기 아버지에게 말하기를, “내 머리야, 내 머리야.” 하였더라. 그런즉 그가 한 소년에게 말하기를, “그를 그의 어머니에게로 옮기라.” 하였더라.

And he said unto his father, My head, my head. And he said to a lad, Carry him to his mother.

20 그리하여 그가 그를 붙잡고 그의 어머니에게로 그를 데려갔을 때 그가 정오까지 그녀의 두 무릎 위에 앉았다가 그때 죽었더라.

And when he had taken him, and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till noon, and then died.

21 그리고 그녀가 올라가서 그를 하나님의 사람의 침상 위에 뉘인 다음에 그를 두고 문을 닫고 나갔더라.

And she went up, and laid him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the door upon him, and went out.

22 그러고 나서 그녀가 자기 남편을 불러 말하기를, “제가 당신께 간구하오니, 청년들 중 한 명과 나귀들 중 한 마리를 제게 보내소서. 제가 하나님의 사람에게 달려갔다가 다시 오려 하나이다.” 하였더라.

And she called unto her husband, and said, Send me, I pray thee, one of the young men, and one of the asses, that I may run to the man of God, and come again.

23 이에 그가 말하기를, “어찌 당신은 오늘 그에게 가려 하는가? 새 달도 아니고 안식일도 아니로다.” 하였더라. 그러자 그녀가 말하기를, “잘 될 것이니이다.” 하였더라.

And he said, Wherefore wilt thou go to him to day? it is neither new moon, nor sabbath. And she said, It shall be well.

24 그때 그녀가 한 나귀에 안장을 올리고 그녀의 종에게 말하기를, “몰고 앞으로 가라. 내가 너에게 분부하지 않는 한 너는 나를 위하여 나귀를 더디게 몰지 말라.” 하였더라.

Then she saddled an ass, and said to her servant, Drive, and go forward; slack not thy riding for me, except I bid thee.

25 그렇게 하여 그녀가 가서 칼멜산에 있는 하나님의 사람에게 이르렀더라. 그러자 하나님의 사람이 멀리 떨어진 데서 그녀를 보았을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그가 그의 종 게하지에게 말하기를, “보라, 그 슈남족 여인이 저쪽에 있도다.

So she went and came unto the man of God to mount Carmel. And it came to pass, when the man of God saw her afar off, that he said to Gehazi his servant, Behold, yonder is that Shunammite:

26 내가 너에게 간구하노니, 지금 그녀를 맞이하러 달려가서 그녀에게 말하기를, ‘너는 잘 있느냐? 네 남편은 잘 있느냐? 그 아이는 잘 있느냐?’ 하라.” 하였더라. 이에 그녀가 대답하기를, “잘 지내나이다.” 하였더라.

Run now, I pray thee, to meet her, and say unto her, Is it well with thee? is it well with thy husband? is it well with the child? And she answered, It is well.

27 그러다가 그녀가 언덕에 이르러 하나님의 사람에게 이르렀을 때 그녀는 그의 두 발을 붙잡았더라. 그러나 게하지가 그녀를 밀쳐 내려고 가까이 왔더라. 그러자 하나님의 사람이 말하기를, “그녀를 내버려 두라. 이는 그녀의 혼이 그녀 안에서 번민하고 있기 때문이라. 그리고 주께서 그것을 나에게서 숨기셨고 나에게 알려주지 아니하셨도다.” 하였더라.

And when she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught him by the feet: but Gehazi came near to thrust her away. And the man of God said, Let her alone; for her soul is vexed within her: and the LORD hath hid it from me, and hath not told me.

28 그때 그녀가 말하기를, “제가 나의 주께 아들을 갈구하였나이까? 제가 말씀드리기를, ‘저를 속이지 마소서.’ 하지 아니하였나이까?” 하였더라.

Then she said, Did I desire a son of my lord? did I not say, Do not deceive me?

29 그때 그가 게하지에게 말하기를, “너의 허리를 동여매고 너의 손에 나의 지팡이를 들고 너의 길을 가라. 만일 네가 어떤 사람을 만난다면 그에게 문안하지 말라. 그리고 만일 누군가 너에게 문안한다면 그에게 대꾸하지 말라. 그런 다음에 나의 지팡이를 아이의 얼굴 위에 놓으라.” 하였더라.

Then he said to Gehazi, Gird up thy loins, and take my staff in thine hand, and go thy way: if thou meet any man, salute him not; and if any salute thee, answer him not again: and lay my staff upon the face of the child.

30 그러자 그 아이의 어머니가 말하기를, “주께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하오니, 또 당신의 혼이 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하오니, 제가 당신을 떠나지 아니하겠나이다.” 하였더라. 이에 그가 일어나서 그녀를 따라갔더라.

And the mother of the child said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And he arose, and followed her.

31 이후에 게하지가 그들보다 앞서가서 그 지팡이를 아이의 얼굴 위에 놓았더라. 그러나 음성도 없었고 들리는 것도 없었더라. 이러한 이유로 그가 그를 만나러 다시 가서 그에게 알리며 말하기를, “아이가 깨어나지 아니하였나이다.” 하였더라.

And Gehazi passed on before them, and laid the staff upon the face of the child; but there was neither voice, nor hearing. Wherefore he went again to meet him, and told him, saying, The child is not awaked.

32 이윽고 엘리사가 집 안으로 들어왔을 때, 보라, 아이가 죽어서 그의 침상 위에 뉘어 있었더라.

And when Elisha was come into the house, behold, the child was dead, and laid upon his bed.

33 그러므로 그가 들어가서 그들 둘 뒤로 문을 닫고 주께 기도하였더라.

He went in therefore, and shut the door upon them twain, and prayed unto the LORD.

34 그런 다음에 그가 올라가서 아이 위에 엎드렸으니, 자신의 입을 그의 입 위에, 자신의 두 눈을 그의 두 눈 위에, 자신의 두 손을 그의 두 손 위에 포갰더라. 그리고 그가 아이 위에서 자신의 몸을 뻗었더라. 그러자 아이의 살이 따뜻해졌더라.

And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and he stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child waxed warm.

35 그때 그가 되돌아가서 그 집 안을 이리저리 걸었더라. 그리고 올라가서 그의 위에 자신의 몸을 뻗었더라. 그러자 아이가 일곱 번 재채기를 하였고 아이가 자기 두 눈을 떴더라.

Then he returned, and walked in the house to and fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.

36 그런즉 그가 게하지를 불러 말하기를, “이 슈남족 여인을 부르라.” 하였더라. 그렇기에 그가 그녀를 불렀더라. 그리하여 그녀가 들어와 그에게 오자 그가 말하기를, “너의 아들을 안아 올리라.” 하였더라.

And he called Gehazi, and said, Call this Shunammite. So he called her. And when she was come in unto him, he said, Take up thy son.

37 그때 그녀가 들어와 그의 두 발 앞에 엎드리고 자신의 몸을 땅바닥으로 숙여 절하였고 그녀의 아들을 안아 올린 뒤에 나갔더라.

Then she went in, and fell at his feet, and bowed herself to the ground, and took up her son, and went out.

38 ¶ 이후에 엘리사가 다시 길갈로 왔더라. 그런데 그 지역 가운데 기아가 들었더라. 그리고 예언자들의 아들들이 그의 앞에 앉아 있었는데 그가 그의 종에게 말하기를, “커다란 냄비를 준비해 두고 예언자들의 아들들을 위하여 죽을 끓이라.” 하였더라.

¶ And Elisha came again to Gilgal: and there was a dearth in the land; and the sons of the prophets were sitting before him: and he said unto his servant, Set on the great pot, and seethe pottage for the sons of the prophets.

39 그런즉 누군가 야채들을 모으러 들판으로 나갔다가 야생 덩굴을 발견하였으니, 그곳의 야생 박들을 그의 무릎 자락에 가득 모아 와서 그것들을 채 썰었고, 죽이 있는 냄비 안에다 넣었더라. 이는 그들이 그것들을 몰랐기 때문이라.

And one went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered thereof wild gourds his lap full, and came and shred them into the pot of pottage: for they knew them not.

40 그렇게 하여 그들이 사람들에게 먹도록 따라 주었더라. 그리고 그들이 그 죽을 먹는 동안에 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그들이 소리를 질러 말하기를, “오, 하나님의 사람이신 당신이여, 냄비 안에 죽음이 있나이다.” 하였더라. 그리하여 그들이 그것을 먹을 수 없었더라.

So they poured out for the men to eat. And it came to pass, as they were eating of the pottage, that they cried out, and said, O thou man of God, there is death in the pot. And they could not eat thereof.

41 그러나 그가 말하기를, “그렇다면 굵은 곡물 가루를 가져오라.” 하였더라. 그리고 그가 그것을 냄비 안에 던져 넣은 다음에 그가 말하기를, “백성이 먹을 수 있도록 그들을 위하여 따라 주라.” 하였더라. 그리하여 냄비 안에는 해를 입히는 것이 전혀 없었더라.

But he said, Then bring meal. And he cast it into the pot; and he said, Pour out for the people, that they may eat. And there was no harm in the pot.

42 ¶ 이후에 바알샬리샤로부터 온 한 남자가 있었고 하나님의 사람에게 첫 열매들의 빵으로 보리 빵 스무 덩이와, 그것의 껍질 안에 알맹이가 꽉 찬 곡식의 이삭들을 가져왔더라. 그러자 그가 말하기를, “백성이 먹을 수 있도록 그들에게 주라.” 하였더라.

¶ And there came a man from Baalshalisha, and brought the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley, and full ears of corn in the husk thereof. And he said, Give unto the people, that they may eat.

43 이에 그의 하인이 말하기를, “무슨 말씀이니이까? 제가 이것을 일백 명의 사람들 앞에 차려야 하나이까?” 하였더라. 그가 다시 말하기를, “백성에게 주어 그들이 먹을 수 있게 하라. 이는 주께서 이같이 말씀하시기를, ‘그들이 먹고 그것의 일부를 남기리라.’ 하셨기 때문이니라.” 하였더라.

And his servitor said, What, should I set this before an hundred men? He said again, Give the people, that they may eat: for thus saith the LORD, They shall eat, and shall leave thereof.

44 그렇게 하여 그가 그것을 그들 앞에다 차려 놓았더니, 그들이 먹고 주의 말씀에 따라 그것의 일부를 남겼더라.

So he set it before them, and they did eat, and left thereof, according to the word of the LORD.
