1 그러므로 이제 오, 이스라엘아, 내가 너희에게 가르치는 규례들에, 또 공의로운 법규들에 경청하고 그것들을 실행할지니, 너희로 하여금 살게 하려 함이요, 너희 조상들의 주 하나님께서 너희에게 주시는 곳으로 들어가서 그 지역을 차지하게 하려 함이라.

Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers giveth you.

2 너희는 내가 너희에게 명령하는 말씀에 더하지 말지니라. 또한 너희는 그 말씀에서 조금도 빼지 말지니, 너희로 하여금 내가 너희에게 명령하는 주 너희 하나님의 명령들을 지키게 하려 함이라.

Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

3 주께서 바알프올로 인하여 행하신 것을 너희의 눈이 보았느니라. 이는 주 너의 하나님께서 그들, 곧 바알프올을 따른 모든 사람들을 너희 가운데서 멸하셨기 때문이라.

Your eyes have seen what the LORD did because of Baalpeor: for all the men that followed Baalpeor, the LORD thy God hath destroyed them from among you.

4 그러나 주 너희 하나님께 밀착한 너희, 곧 너희 각자는 모두 이날 살아 있느니라.

But ye that did cleave unto the LORD your God are alive every one of you this day.

5 보라, 내가 규례들과 공의로운 법규들을 주 나의 하나님께서 나에게 명령하신 그대로 가르쳐 왔나니, 그곳을 차지하려고 너희가 들어가는 그 지역 가운데서 너희로 하여금 그와 같이 행하게 하려 함이라.

Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess it.

6 그러므로 그것들을 지키고 실행하라. 이는 이것이 민족들의 목전에서 너희의 지혜와 너희의 명철이기 때문이라. 이 모든 규례들을 들을 민족들이 말하기를, ‘이 위대한 민족은 확실히 지혜롭고 명철한 백성이로다.’ 하리라.

Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.

7 그러므로 주 우리 하나님께서 우리가 그분을 부르는 모든 일들 가운데 계시는 것같이 하나님을 자신들에게 이렇게 가깝게 모신 이토록 위대한 민족이 어디 있느냐?

For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for?

8 또 내가 이날에 너희 앞에 세운 이 모든 율법과 같이 이렇게 의로운 규례들과 공의로운 법규들을 가진 이토록 위대한 민족이 어디 있느냐?

And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?

9 오직 너는 스스로 주의하고 너의 혼을 부지런히 지킬지니, 너는 너의 두 눈이 본 것들을 잊지 말고, 너의 생애의 모든 날들 동안 그것들이 너의 마음으로부터 떠나지 않게 하라. 다만 너는 그것들을 너의 아들들과 너의 아들들의 아들들에게 가르치라.

Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons' sons;

10 특별히 네가 호렙에서 주 너의 하나님 앞에 섰던 날에 주께서 나에게 말씀하시기를, ‘백성을 나에게로 한데 모으라. 그리하면 내가 그들로 하여금 내 말들을 듣게 하겠으니, 그들로 하여금 자신들이 땅 위에서 사는 모든 날들 동안 나를 두려워하는 것을 배우게 하려 함이요, 그들이 자신들의 자식들을 가르치게 하려 함이라.’ 하셨을 때라.

Specially the day that thou stoodest before the LORD thy God in Horeb, when the LORD said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.

11 그리하여 너희가 가까이 나아와 산 아래에 섰노라. 그런즉 그 산은 하늘 한가운데까지 불타올랐으며 어둠과 구름들과 짙은 흑암을 동반하였더라.

And ye came near and stood under the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire unto the midst of heaven, with darkness, clouds, and thick darkness.

12 그리고 주께서 그 불 한가운데서 너희에게 이야기하셨느니라. 너희는 그 말들의 음성을 들었으나 모습은 보지 못하였느니라. 너희는 오직 음성만을 들었느니라.

And the LORD spake unto you out of the midst of the fire: ye heard the voice of the words, but saw no similitude; only ye heard a voice.

13 그리하여 그분께서 그분의 언약을 너희에게 선언하셨으니, 그 언약은 그분께서 너희에게 수행하라고 명령하신 것으로, 바로 십계명이라. 그런즉 그분께서 그것들을 두 돌판들 위에 기록하셨느니라.

And he declared unto you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even ten commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone.

14 ¶ 그리고 그때에 주께서 나에게 명령하시어 너희에게 규례들과 공의로운 법규들을 가르치라고 하셨으니, 그곳을 차지하려고 너희가 건너가는 그 지역 가운데서 너희로 하여금 그것들을 실행하게 하려 하심이라.

¶ And the LORD commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go over to possess it.

15 그러므로 너희는 스스로 각별히 주의하라. 이는 주께서 너희에게 호렙에 있는 불 한가운데서 말씀하신 그날에 너희가 어떤 부류의 모습도 목격하지 못하였기 때문이라.

Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no manner of similitude on the day that the LORD spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire:

16 이는 너희가 스스로 부패하여 너희에게 이러한 것들을 만들어 두지 않게 하려 함이니, 곧 새겨진 형상도, 어떤 모형의 모습도, 남성이나 여성과 같은 모습도,

Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female,

17 지상에 있는 어떤 짐승과 같은 모습도, 어떤 날개가 달려있고 공중을 날아다니는 날짐승과 같은 모습도,

The likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flieth in the air,

18 지면 위를 기어다니는 어떤 것과 같은 모습도, 땅 아래 물들 속에 있는 어떤 물고기와 같은 모습도 만들지 않게 하려 함이라.

The likeness of any thing that creepeth on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth:

19 또 네가 하늘로 너의 두 눈을 들어 올리지 않게 하려 함이니, 네가 해와 달과 별들, 곧 하늘의 모든 군대를 볼 때 그것들을 경배하고 그것들을 섬기는 데 끌려가지 않게 하려 함이라. 그것들은 주 너의 하나님께서 온 하늘 아래에 있는 모든 민족들에게 나누신 것이라.

And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.

20 그러나 주께서 너희를 취하시어 철 용광로에서, 곧 이집트에서 너희를 데리고 나오셨으니, 이날의 너희와 같이 그분께 유산의 백성이 되게 하려 하심이라.

But the LORD hath taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, even out of Egypt, to be unto him a people of inheritance, as ye are this day.

21 더구나 주께서는 너희로 인하여 나에게 분노하셨으니, 내가 요르단을 건너가지 못할 것과 주 너의 하나님께서 너에게 유산으로 주시는 그 좋은 지역으로 내가 들어가지 못할 것을 맹세하셨느니라.

Furthermore the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, and sware that I should not go over Jordan, and that I should not go in unto that good land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance:

22 그러나 나는 이 지역 가운데서 반드시 죽어야만 하리니, 내가 결코 요르단을 건너가지 못할 것이나 너희는 건너가서 그 좋은 지역을 차지하리라.

But I must die in this land, I must not go over Jordan: but ye shall go over, and possess that good land.

23 너희는 스스로 주의하여 그분께서 너희와 함께 제정하신 주 너희 하나님의 언약을 너희가 잊지 않도록 하고, 주 너의 하나님께서 너에게 금하신 어떤 새겨진 형상이나 어떤 것과 같은 모습을 너희에게 만들어 두지 않도록 하라.

Take heed unto yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which he made with you, and make you a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, which the LORD thy God hath forbidden thee.

24 이는 주 너의 하나님께서는 태워 버리는 불, 곧 질투하시는 한 하나님이기 때문이라.

For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.

25 ¶ 네가 자녀들을 낳고 자녀들의 자녀들을 낳으며 너희가 그 지역 가운데 오랫동안 존속하였는데 스스로 부패하여, 새겨진 형상이나 어떤 것과 같은 모습을 만들어서 주 너의 하나님의 목전에 악을 행하여 그분께 분노를 일으켰을 때,

¶ When thou shalt beget children, and children's children, and ye shall have remained long in the land, and shall corrupt yourselves, and make a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, and shall do evil in the sight of the LORD thy God, to provoke him to anger:

26 내가 이날에 너희를 대적하여 증거하도록 하늘과 땅을 부르노니, 그곳을 차지하려고 너희가 요르단을 건너가는 그 지역에서 너희가 머지 않아 철저히 파멸할 것이요, 너희가 그곳에서 너희의 날들을 연장하지 못하고 오히려 철저히 멸망하리라.

I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that ye shall soon utterly perish from off the land whereunto ye go over Jordan to possess it; ye shall not prolong your days upon it, but shall utterly be destroyed.

27 그런 다음에 주께서 너희를 민족들 가운데로 흩으시리니, 주께서 너희를 이끌어 가실 이교도들 가운데서 너희는 적은 수만 남게 되리라.

And the LORD shall scatter you among the nations, and ye shall be left few in number among the heathen, whither the LORD shall lead you.

28 그리하면 거기서 너희가 신들을 섬기리니, 곧 사람들의 손에서 나온 작업물인 나무토막과 돌을 섬기리라. 그것들은 보지도 못하고, 듣지도 못하며, 먹지도 못하고, 냄새 맡지도 못하느니라.

And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.

29 그러나 만일 네가 거기서 주 너의 하나님을 찾는다면 네가 그분을 발견할 것이요, 만일 네가 너의 마음을 다하고 너의 혼을 다하여 그분을 찾는다면 그분을 발견하리라.

But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.

30 네가 환란에 처하고 이 모든 일들이 너에게 임하는 때, 곧 마지막에 가까운 날들에 만일 네가 주 너의 하나님께 돌이키고 그분의 음성에 순종하면,

When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou turn to the LORD thy God, and shalt be obedient unto his voice;

31 (이는 주 너의 하나님께서는 자비로운 한 하나님이시기 때문이라.) 그분께서는 너를 저버리지 아니하실 것이요, 너를 멸하지도 아니하실 것이요, 그분께서 너의 조상들에게 맹세하신 그들의 언약을 잊지도 아니하시리라.

(For the LORD thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.

32 그러므로 이제 하나님께서 땅 위에 사람을 창조하신 날 이래로 네 앞에 있던 과거의 날들에 물어보라. 그리고 하늘의 이편부터 다른 편까지 물어보라. 이 위대한 민족과 같은 어떤 민족이 존재한 적이 있느냐? 혹은 그와 같은 민족을 들어 본 적이 있느냐?

For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man upon the earth, and ask from the one side of heaven unto the other, whether there hath been any such thing as this great thing is, or hath been heard like it?

33 네가 들은 것과 같이 불 한가운데서 말씀하시는 하나님의 음성을 듣고도 살아남은 백성이 이제껏 있었더냐?

Did ever people hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as thou hast heard, and live?

34 또는 주 너희 하나님께서 너희를 위하여 이집트에서 너희의 눈앞에 행하신 모든 것대로 하나님께서 가시어 시험들로, 표적들로, 이적들로, 전쟁으로, 막강한 손으로, 펼쳐진 팔로, 커다란 공포들로 한 민족을 다른 민족 한가운데서 자신에게로 데려오려고 시도하신 적이 있었더냐?

Or hath God assayed to go and take him a nation from the midst of another nation, by temptations, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

35 그것이 너에게 보여졌으니, 너로 하여금 주, 그분이 하나님이신 것을 알게 하려 함이라. 그분 외에 다른 신은 아무도 없느니라.

Unto thee it was shewed, that thou mightest know that the LORD he is God; there is none else beside him.

36 그분께서는 너로 하여금 자신의 음성을 하늘에서 듣게 하셨으니, 그분께서 너를 지도하려 하심이라. 그리고 그분께서는 자신에게 속한 거대한 불을 땅 위에서 너에게 보이셨도다. 그리하여 너는 불 한가운데서 그분의 말씀들을 들었도다.

Out of heaven he made thee to hear his voice, that he might instruct thee: and upon earth he shewed thee his great fire; and thou heardest his words out of the midst of the fire.

37 그리고 그분께서 너의 조상들을 사랑하셨으므로 그들의 뒤를 잇는 그들의 씨를 친히 선택하셨으니, 그분의 목전에서 그분의 막강한 권능으로 너를 이집트에서 데리고 나오셨느니라.

And because he loved thy fathers, therefore he chose their seed after them, and brought thee out in his sight with his mighty power out of Egypt;

38 너보다 더 위대하고 막강한 민족들을 너의 앞에서 내쫓으신 것과 너에게 그들의 지역을 유산으로 주시고자 너를 데리고 들어가신 것이 이날과 같도다.

To drive out nations from before thee greater and mightier than thou art, to bring thee in, to give thee their land for an inheritance, as it is this day.

39 그러므로 이날에 주, 그분께서는 위로는 하늘 가운데 계시고 아래로는 땅 위에 계시는 하나님이심을 알고 그것을 너의 마음속에 숙고하라. 그분 외에 다른 신은 아무도 없느니라.

Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else.

40 그러므로 너는 내가 이날에 너에게 명령하는 그분의 규례들과 그분의 명령들을 지킬지니, 너와 너의 뒤를 잇는 너의 자녀들이 잘되게 하려 함이요, 네가 땅 위에서 너의 날들을 연장하게 하려 함이니, 그 땅은 주 너의 하나님께서 너에게 영원토록 주시는 것이라.”

Thou shalt keep therefore his statutes, and his commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days upon the earth, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, for ever.

41 ¶ 그때 모세가 해가 떠오르는 쪽인 요르단 이편에서 세 개의 도시들을 갈라내었으니,

¶ Then Moses severed three cities on this side Jordan toward the sunrising;

42 살해자가 거기로 도망하게 하려 함이라. 그는 자기 이웃을 부지중에 죽이고 지나간 때들에 그를 증오하지 않았던 자여야 하리라. 그런즉 이 도시들 중 한 곳으로 피신하여 그로 하여금 살게 하려 함이니,

That the slayer might flee thither, which should kill his neighbour unawares, and hated him not in times past; and that fleeing unto one of these cities he might live:

43 곧, 르우벤족들에게 속하고 평야 지방 가운데 있으며 광야 가운데 있는 베젤이요, 갓족들에게 속하고 길르앗에 있는 라못이요, 므낫세족들에게 속하고 바샨에 있는 골란이라.

Namely, Bezer in the wilderness, in the plain country, of the Reubenites; and Ramoth in Gilead, of the Gadites; and Golan in Bashan, of the Manassites.

44 ¶ 그리고 모세가 이스라엘 자녀들 앞에 세운 율법이 이러하니라.

¶ And this is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel:

45 이것들은 이스라엘 자녀들이 이집트에서 나온 뒤에 모세가 그들에게 전한 증언들과 규례들과 공의로운 법규들이니,

These are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which Moses spake unto the children of Israel, after they came forth out of Egypt,

46 요르단 이편, 벧프올 맞은편 골짜기 가운데서, 곧 헤슈본에서 거하던 아모리족들의 왕 시혼의 지역 가운데서 모세가 전한 것이라. 시혼은 모세와 이스라엘 자녀들이 이집트에서 나온 뒤에 그들이 친 자더라.

On this side Jordan, in the valley over against Bethpeor, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon, whom Moses and the children of Israel smote, after they were come forth out of Egypt:

47 그리고 그들이 그의 지역과 바샨 왕 옥의 지역, 곧 아모리족들의 두 왕의 지역을 차지하였으니, 그곳은 해가 떠오르는 쪽인 요르단 이편에 있던 곳이라.

And they possessed his land, and the land of Og king of Bashan, two kings of the Amorites, which were on this side Jordan toward the sunrising;

48 곧, 아르논 강둑 옆에 있는 아로엘부터 헤르몬이라 하는 시-온산에 이르기까지요,

From Aroer, which is by the bank of the river Arnon, even unto mount Sion, which is Hermon,

49 동쪽으로 요르단 이편인 평야 전체니, 곧 피스가의 샘들 아래에 있는 평야의 바다까지라.

And all the plain on this side Jordan eastward, even unto the sea of the plain, under the springs of Pisgah.
