1 그때 예수님께서 유월절 엿새 전에 베다니로 오셨으니, 그곳은 그분께서 죽었던 나사로를 죽은 자들로부터 살리신 곳이었더라.

1 Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.

2 거기에서 그들이 그분께 만찬을 마련하였는데 마르다는 식사 시중을 들었으나 나사로는 그분과 함께 식탁에 앉은 자들 중 하나였더라.

2 There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him.

3 그때 마리아가 아주 값진 감송 향유 일 파운드⁶를 가지고 와서 예수님의 두 발에 부었으며 자신의 머리카락으로 그분의 두 발을 닦았더라. 그러자 그 집이 향유 내음으로 가득하였더라.

3 Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.

4 그때 그분의 제자들 중 한 명이며 시몬의 아들이자 그분을 배반할 유-다 이스카리옷이 이같이 말하니라.

4 Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him,

5 “어찌하여 이 향유가 삼백 펜스⁷에 팔리지 않았으며, 어찌하여 이것이 가난한 자들에게 주어지지 아니하였느냐?”

5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?

6 그가 이것을 말한 것은 자신이 가난한 자들을 신경써서가 아니요, 다만 그가 도둑이며 돈 가방을 맡아서 그 안에 둔 것을 가지고 간 까닭이라.

6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.

7 그때 예수님께서 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “그녀를 가만히 두라. 나의 장사 지내는 날을 대비하여 그녀가 이것을 간직하였느니라.

7 Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this.

8 이는 너희가 가난한 자들을 항상 너희 곁에 두고 있기 때문이라. 그러나 나는 항상 너희 곁에 있지는 아니하니라.”

8 For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.

9 그러므로 유대인들 중 많은 백성이 그분께서 거기에 계신 것을 알았더라. 그리고 그들이 온 것은 예수님 때문만이 아니요, 그분께서 죽은 자들로부터 살리신 나사로도 그들이 보려고 한 것이라.

9 Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.

10 ¶ 그러나 수석 제사장들이 협의하였으니, 그들이 나사로도 사형에 처하게 하려 함이더라.

10 ¶ But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death;

11 이는 그로 인하여 유대인들 중 많은 이들이 떠나서 예수님을 믿었기 때문이라.

11 Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.

12 ¶ 다음날, 명절에 왔던 많은 백성은 자신들이 예수님께서 예루살렘으로 오고 계신다는 것을 들었을 때

12 ¶ On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,

13 종려나무들의 가지들을 취하여 그분을 맞이하러 밖으로 나가서 외치기를, “호산나, 주의 이름으로 오시는 이스라엘의 왕께서 찬양받으시는도다.” 하였더라.

13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.

14 그리고 예수님께서는 친히 어린 나귀 한 마리를 찾아내셔서 그 위에 타셨으니 기록되기를,

14 And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,

15 “시-온의 딸아, 두려워하지 말라. 보라, 너의 왕이 한 마리 나귀의 새끼 수나귀 위에 앉아서 오시는도다.” 한 것과 같으니라.

15 Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass's colt.

16 처음에는 그분의 제자들이 이런 것들을 이해하지 못하였더라. 그러나 예수님께서 영광을 받으셨을 때 그제야 그들은 이런 것들이 그분에 관하여 기록되었다는 것과 그들이 이런 것들을 그분께 행하였음을 기억하였더라.

16 These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.

17 그러므로 그분께서 나사로를 그의 무덤에서 나오도록 부르시고 죽은 자들로부터 그를 살리셨을 때 그분과 함께 있었던 백성이 확증하였더라.

17 The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record.

18 이러한 이유로 백성도 그분을 맞이하였으니, 그들이 그분께서 이런 기적을 행하신 것을 들었기 때문이라.

18 For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle.

19 그러므로 바리새파 사람들이 자기들끼리 말하기를, “너희가 아무것도 이기지 못하고 있음을 너희는 알고 있느냐? 보라, 세상이 그를 따라갔도다.” 하였더라.

19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him.

20 ¶ 이윽고 그들 사이에 있던 어떤 헬라인들이 그 명절에 경배하러 올라왔더라.

20 ¶ And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:

21 그러므로 그 동일한 자들이 갈릴리의 벧새다 출신인 빌립에게 가서 그에게 간절히 바라며 말하기를, “선생님, 우리가 예수님을 뵙고 싶나이다.” 하였더라.

21 The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.

22 빌립이 안드레에게 와서 알리고 다시 안드레와 빌립이 예수님께 알리니라.

22 Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.

23 ¶ 그러자 예수님께서 그들에게 대답하며 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “인자가 영광받아야 하는 그 시각이 왔도다.

23 ¶ And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.

24 진실로, 진실로 내가 너희에게 말하노니, ‘한 알의 밀이 토양 속에 떨어져 죽지 아니하면 그것은 홀로 거하느니라. 그러나 만일 그것이 죽는다면 그것은 많은 열매를 내느니라.’

24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

25 자기 생명을 사랑하는 자는 그것을 잃을 것이요, 이 세상에서 자기 생명을 증오하는 자는 그것을 영생에까지 지키리라.

25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

26 누구든 나를 섬긴다면 그로 하여금 나를 따르게 하라. 그리고 내가 있는 곳에 나의 종도 있으리라. 누구든 나를 섬긴다면 나의 아버지께서 그를 존귀하게 여기시리라.

26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

27 지금 나의 혼이 괴로우니 내가 무슨 말을 하겠느냐? 아버지여, 이 시각으로부터 저를 구원하여 주옵소서. 그러나 이러한 이유로 저는 이 시각까지 왔나이다.

27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.

28 아버지여, 당신의 이름을 영화롭게 하소서.” 그때 하늘로부터 한 음성이 임하였으니 말씀하시기를, “내가 그 이름을 영화롭게 하였고 또한 그것을 다시 영화롭게 하리라.” 하셨느니라.

28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.

29 그러므로 곁에 서 있다가 그것을 들은 백성이 천둥이 친 것이라고 말하였더라. 다른 이들은 말하기를, “천사가 그에게 말한 것이라.” 하였더라.

29 The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him.

30 예수님께서 대답하시어 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “이 음성은 나 때문에 임한 것이 아니요, 다만 너희를 위하여 임한 것이라.

30 Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.

31 이제 이 세상의 심판이 있으니, 이제 이 세상의 통치자가 쫓겨나리라.

31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

32 그리고 내가 땅에서 위로 들리면 나는 모든 사람들을 나에게로 이끌겠노라.”

32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

33 그분께서 이렇게 말씀하신 것은 자신이 어떤 죽음으로 죽어야 하는지 알려 주신 것이라.

33 This he said, signifying what death he should die.

34 백성이 그분께 반응하기를, “우리가 율법에서 들은 바는 그리스도께서 영원토록 거하신다는 것이니이다. 그런데 어찌 당신께서는 ‘인자가 위로 들려야만 한다.’라고 말씀하시나이까? 이 인자는 누구시니이까?” 하였더라.

34 The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?

35 그때 예수님께서 그들에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “앞으로 잠시 동안은 빛이 너희와 함께 있느니라. 너희에게 빛이 있는 동안 다닐지니, 어둠이 너희에게 닥치지 못하게 하려 함이라. 이는 어둠 가운데 다니는 자는 그가 어디로 가는지 모르기 때문이라.

35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.

36 너희에게 빛이 있는 동안 그 빛을 믿으라. 이는 너희로 하여금 빛의 자녀들이 되게 하려 함이라.” 이런 것들을 예수님께서 말씀하시고 떠나시어 그들에게서 자신을 숨기셨더라.

36 While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.

37 ¶ 그러나 비록 그분께서 그들 앞에서 그렇게 많은 기적들을 행하셨음에도 여전히 그들은 그분을 믿지 아니하였더라.

37 ¶ But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:

38 이는 예언자 이사-야가 말한 것이 성취되게 하려 함이니, 그가 이르기를, “주여, 우리가 전한 것을 누가 믿었나이까? 그리고 누구에게 주의 팔이 드러났나이까?” 하였더라.

38 That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?

39 그러므로 그들은 믿을 수 없었으니, 이사-야가 다시 이같이 말한 까닭이라.

39 Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again,

40 “그분께서 그들의 눈을 멀게 하셨으며 그들의 마음을 완악하게 하셨으니, 그들이 그들의 눈으로 보지 못하게 하려 함이요, 그들의 마음으로 이해하지도 못하게 하려 함이며, 회심하지도 못하게 하려 함이요, 내가 그들을 치유하지도 못하게 하려 함이라.”

40 He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

41 이사-야가 이런 것들을 말하였으니, 그가 그분의 영광을 보고 그분에 관하여 말하였을 때라.

41 These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.

42 ¶ 그럼에도 불구하고 최고 치리자들 사이에서도 많은 이들이 그분을 믿었더라. 그러나 바리새파 사람들 때문에 그들은 그분을 시인하지 못하였으니, 자신들이 회당에서 출회되지 않으려 함이었더라.

42 ¶ Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:

43 이는 그들이 사람들의 찬사를 하나님의 찬사보다 더 사랑하였기 때문이라.

43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

44 ¶ 예수님께서 이같이 외치어 말씀하셨느니라. “나를 믿는 자는 나를 믿는 것이 아니요, 다만 나를 보내신 분을 믿는 것이라.

44 ¶ Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.

45 그리고 나를 보는 자는 나를 보내신 분을 보는 것이라.

45 And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.

46 나는 빛으로 세상 속으로 들어왔으니, 누구든지 나를 믿는 자는 어둠 가운데 거하지 않게 하려 함이라.

46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.

47 그런데 만일 어떤 사람이 나의 말들을 듣고 믿지 아니한다면 나는 그를 심판하지 아니하느니라. 이는 내가 세상을 심판하러 온 것이 아니요, 오직 세상을 구원하러 온 것이기 때문이라.

47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.

48 나를 거절하며 나의 말들을 받아들이지 아니하는 자에게는 그를 심판하는 이가 있느니라. 내가 말한 그 말, 바로 그 말이 마지막 날에 그를 심판하리라.

48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

49 이는 내가 스스로 말한 것이 아니며 오히려 나를 보내신 아버지, 곧 그분께서 내가 말해야 하는 것과 내가 전해야 하는 것을 나에게 명령으로 주셨기 때문이라.

49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

50 그리고 나는 그분의 명령이 영원한 생명임을 알고 있노라. 그러므로 내가 전하는 것은 무엇이나 아버지께서 나에게 말씀하신 대로니, 내가 그대로 전하노라.”

50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
