1 너는 악인들에 대하여 시기하지 말며 그들과 함께 있기를 열망하지도 말라.
1 Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.
2 이는 그들의 마음이 멸망을 연구하기 때문이요, 그들의 입술이 위해를 가하는 것에 관하여 말하기 때문이라.
2 For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.
3 지혜를 통하여 집이 건축되며, 명철에 의하여 그것이 확고히 세워지느니라.
3 Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:
4 그리고 지식에 의하여 방실들이 보배롭고 기쁨을 주는 모든 재물들로 채워지리라.
4 And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
5 지혜로운 사람은 강하니라. 진정, 지식의 사람은 힘을 늘리느니라.
5 A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength.
6 너는 지혜로운 조언으로 너의 전쟁을 하라. 그리고 조언자들이 많으면 안전하니라.
6 For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety.
7 지혜는 어리석은 자에게 너무 높나니, 그는 성문 안에서 자기 입을 열지 않느니라.
7 Wisdom is too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate.
8 악을 행하려고 계책을 고안하는 자는 해로운 인간이라 불리리라.
8 He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person.
9 어리석은 생각은 죄니라. 경멸하는 자는 사람들에게 가증함이라.
9 The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.
10 만일 네가 역경의 날에 낙담한다면 너의 힘은 미약하니라.
10 If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.
11 만일 네가 죽음으로 끌려가는 자들과 살해당하기 직전인 자들을 구출하는 것을 삼가고
11 If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain;
12 네가 말하기를, “보라, 우리는 그것을 몰랐도다.” 할지라도, 마음을 심사하시는 분께서 그것을 숙고하지 아니하시느냐? 그리고 너의 혼을 지키시는 분, 그분께서 그것을 모르시느냐? 또 그분께서 모든 사람에게 저마다 그의 행위들대로 돌려주지 아니하시느냐?
12 If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?
13 나의 아들아, 너는 꿀을 먹으라. 이는 그것이 좋기 때문이라. 그리고 벌집을 먹으라. 그것이 너의 입맛에 달콤하니라.
13 My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste:
14 지혜의 지식이 너의 혼에 그와 같으리라. 네가 그것을 발견하면 그때는 보상이 있을 것이요, 너의 기대가 끊어지지 아니하리라.
14 So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.
15 오, 사악한 사람아, 의로운 자의 거주지를 대적하여 숨어 기다리지 말라. 그의 안식처를 약탈하지 말라.
15 Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; spoil not his resting place:
16 이는 의인은 일곱 번 쓰러져도 다시 일어나기 때문이라. 그러나 사악한 자는 해로움 속으로 빠지리라.
16 For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.
17 너의 원수가 쓰러질 때 크게 기뻐하지 말라. 그리고 그가 걸려 넘어질 때 너의 마음이 반가워하지 않게 하라.
17 Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:
18 주께서 그것을 보시고 그것이 그분을 불쾌하게 하여 그분께서 자신의 진노를 그에게서 옮겨 버리실까 하노라.
18 Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.
19 너는 악인들로 인하여 스스로 안달하지 말고, 너는 사악한 자들을 시기하지도 말라.
19 Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked;
20 이는 악인에게는 보상이 없을 것이요, 사악한 자들의 불빛은 꺼질 것이기 때문이라.
20 For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.
21 나의 아들아, 너는 주와 왕을 두려워하라. 그리고 쉽게 바꾸는 경향이 있는 자들과 상관하지 말라.
21 My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change:
22 이는 그들의 재난이 갑작스럽게 일어날 것이기 때문이라. 그런즉 누가 그들 둘의 몰락을 아느냐?
22 For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?
23 이것들도 지혜로운 자들에게 속하느니라. 재판에서 외모들을 보는 것은 선하지 아니하니라.
23 These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.
24 사악한 자에게 “너는 의롭도다.”라고 말하는 자, 그를 백성들이 저주하리니, 민족들이 그를 혐오하리라.
24 He that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him:
25 그러나 그를 꾸짖는 자들에게는 큰 즐거움이 있을 것이요, 좋은 복이 그들 위에 임하리라.
25 But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.
26 바른 대답을 하는 자의 입술에 모든 사람이 저마다 입맞추리라.
26 Every man shall kiss his lips that giveth a right answer.
27 너의 바깥일을 예비하여 현장에서 그 일이 너에게 적합하게 되도록 조성하라. 그러고 난 후에 너의 집을 세우라.
27 Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house.
28 까닭 없이 너의 이웃을 대적하는 증인이 되지 말라. 그리고 너의 입술로 속이지 말라.
28 Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive not with thy lips.
29 “그가 나에게 행한 대로 나도 그에게 그와 같이 하겠노라.” 하고 말하지 말라. “내가 그 사람의 행위대로 그에게 돌려주겠노라.” 하고 말하지 말라.
29 Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.
30 내가 게으른 자의 밭과 명철이 결여된 사람의 포도원 옆을 지나갔노라.
30 I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;
31 그런데 보라, 그곳이 온통 가시나무들로 뒤덮였으며, 쐐기풀들은 그곳의 표면을 덮었고, 그곳의 돌담은 무너졌도다.
31 And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.
32 그때 내가 그것을 보고 제대로 숙고하였도다. 내가 그것을 바라보며 교훈을 받았도다.
32 Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.
33 그럼에도 “좀 더 자자, 좀 더 졸자, 두 손을 모은 채 좀 더 자자.” 하면
33 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
34 너의 빈궁이 여행하는 자같이 올 것이요, 너의 궁핍이 무장된 사람같이 오리라.
34 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.
