1 내일을 스스로 자랑하지 말라. 이는 하루 동안에 무슨 일이 일어날지 네가 알 수 없기 때문이라.
1 Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
2 다른 사람이 너를 칭찬하게 하고 너 자신의 입으로는 하지 말라. 타국인이 너를 칭찬하게 하고 너 자신의 입술로는 하지 말라.
2 Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.
3 돌은 무겁고 모래는 무게가 나가느니라. 그러나 어리석은 자의 진노는 그 둘보다 더 무거우니라.
3 A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool's wrath is heavier than them both.
4 진노는 잔인하고 분노는 포학하니라. 그러나 누가 시기 앞에 능히 설 수 있겠느냐?
4 Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?
5 드러나게 꾸짖는 것은 숨겨진 사랑보다 나으니라.
5 Open rebuke is better than secret love.
6 친구가 주는 상처들은 신실하니라. 그러나 원수의 입맞춤들은 속임수로 가득하니라.
6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
7 배부른 혼은 벌집도 역겨워하느니라. 그러나 배고픈 혼에게는 쓴맛이 나는 모든 것마다 달콤하니라.
7 The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
8 그녀의 둥지를 떠나 떠돌아다니는 새같이, 자기 처소를 떠나 방황하는 사람도 그러하니라.
8 As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.
9 향유와 향수는 마음을 크게 기쁘게 하느니라. 이처럼 진심 어린 조언에 의하여 사람의 친구의 감미로움도 마음을 크게 기쁘게 하느니라.
9 Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.
10 너 자신의 친구와 너의 아버지의 친구를 저버리지 말라. 또한 너의 재난의 날에 너의 형제의 집 안으로 들어가지도 말라. 이는 가까운 이웃이 멀리 떨어져 있는 형제보다 낫기 때문이라.
10 Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother's house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.
11 나의 아들아, 지혜롭게 되어 나의 마음을 흡족하게 하라. 이는 내가 나를 비방하는 자에게 대답하려는 것이라.
11 My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me.
12 신중한 사람은 해악을 미리 보고 자신을 숨기느니라. 그러나 우매한 자들은 계속 나아가다가 형벌을 받느니라.
12 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.
13 타국인을 위하여 보증인이 된 자에게서는 의복을 취하라. 그리고 타국 여자를 위하여 보증인이 된 자에게서는 담보물을 취하라.
13 Take his garment that is surety for a stranger, and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.
14 아침에 일찍 일어나서 큰 목소리로 자기 친구를 축복하는 자는 그것이 친구에게는 저주로 여겨지리라.
14 He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.
15 비가 퍼붓는 날에 끊임없이 떨어지는 물방울과 다투기를 좋아하는 여자는 같으니라.
15 A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.
16 누구든지 그녀를 숨기는 자는 바람을 숨기는 것이요, 자기 오른손에서 저절로 새어 나오는 향유를 숨기는 것이라.
16 Whosoever hideth her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand, which bewrayeth itself.
17 철이 철을 예리하게 하나니, 이처럼 사람이 자기 친구의 얼굴을 예리하게 하느니라.
17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
18 무화과나무를 지키는 자는 누구나 그것의 열매를 먹으리라. 이처럼 자기 주인을 기다리는 자도 존귀하게 되리라.
18 Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: so he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured.
19 물에서 얼굴이 얼굴을 투영하듯이 이처럼 사람의 마음도 사람을 투영하느니라.
19 As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.
20 지옥과 멸망은 결코 가득 차지 않느니라. 이처럼 사람의 두 눈도 결코 만족하지 않느니라.
20 Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.
21 도가니가 은을, 용광로가 금을 정련하듯이, 이처럼 사람의 칭찬이 그를 정련하느니라.
21 As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man to his praise.
22 네가 어리석은 자를 밀과 함께 절구 안에다 넣고 공이로 찧을지라도 여전히 그의 어리석음은 그에게서 떠나지 아니하리라.
22 Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet will not his foolishness depart from him.
23 너는 너의 양 떼들의 상태를 부지런히 알고, 너의 소 떼들을 잘 살피라.
23 Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.
24 이는 재물들이 영원토록 존재하지는 않기 때문이라. 그런즉 왕관이 지속되어 모든 세대에 저마다 이르느냐?
24 For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation?
25 건초가 나타나고, 연한 풀이 스스로 내보이며, 산들의 야채들이 거두어지느니라.
25 The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered.
26 어린양들은 너의 옷을 위한 것이고, 염소들은 밭 값이라.
26 The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field.
27 그런즉 너는 너의 양식과 너의 집안사람들의 양식과 너의 하녀들의 생계를 위하여 충분한 염소젖을 얻으리라.
27 And thou shalt have goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens.
