1 나의 아들아, 나의 지혜에 집중하고 나의 명철을 향하여 너의 귀를 기울이라.
1 My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:
2 이는 네가 분별을 유념하게 하려 함이요, 너의 입술이 지식을 간직할 수 있게 하려 함이라.
2 That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.
3 ¶ 이는 타국 여자의 입술은 벌집같이 꿀을 떨어뜨리고, 그녀의 입은 기름보다 더 매끄럽기 때문이라.
3 ¶ For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
4 그러나 그녀의 끝은 쑥같이 쓰고 양날검같이 날카로우니라.
4 But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword.
5 그녀의 두 발은 죽음으로 내려가느니라. 그녀의 걸음들은 지옥을 굳게 붙잡느니라.
5 Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.
6 이는 너로 하여금 생명의 행로를 깊이 생각하지 못하게 하려 함이니, 그녀의 길들은 유동적이므로 너는 그것들을 알 수 없느니라.
6 Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.
7 그러므로 오, 너희, 자녀들아, 이제 나의 말을 들으라. 그리고 나의 입의 말들에서 떠나지 말라.
7 Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
8 그녀에게서 너의 길을 멀리 옮기고 그녀의 집의 문에 가까이 가지도 말라.
8 Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:
9 이는 네가 너의 존귀를 다른 이들에게 주고 너의 연수를 잔인한 자에게 줄까 함이요,
9 Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:
10 타국인들이 너의 부로 채워지고 너의 수고들이 어느 타국인의 집 안에 있게 될까 함이요,
10 Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;
11 너의 육체와 너의 몸이 쇠하여질 때 네가 마지막에 이르러 애곡하며
11 And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
12 이같이 말할까 함이라. “어찌하여 내가 훈계를 증오하였고, 나의 마음이 책망을 멸시하였으며,
12 And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
13 나의 선생들의 음성에 순종하지 아니하였고, 나를 훈계하던 자들에게 나의 귀를 기울이지 아니하였던가!
13 And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!
14 나는 하마터면 회중과 집회 한가운데 있는 모든 악에 빠질 뻔 하였노라.”
14 I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
15 ¶ 네 소유의 저수조에서 나오는 물들과 네 소유의 우물에서 흐르는 물들을 마시라.
15 ¶ Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
16 너의 원천들로 하여금 널리 확산되게 하고, 물들이 흐르는 강들로 하여금 거리들 가운데 널리 확산되게 하라.
16 Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.
17 그것들이 오직 너의 소유만이 되게 하고 너의 곁에 있는 타국인들의 것이 되지 못하게 하라.
17 Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.
18 너의 원천이 복을 받게 하라. 그리하여 너의 젊은 시절의 아내와 함께 크게 기뻐하라.
18 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
19 그녀로 하여금 사랑스러운 암사슴과 기쁨을 주는 노루같이 되게 하라. 그녀의 젖가슴이 항상 너를 만족하게 하고, 너는 언제나 그녀의 사랑으로 황홀하게 되라.
19 Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
20 그런데 나의 아들아, 어찌하여 너는 타국 여자로 황홀하게 되려 하며, 타국 여자의 품을 안으려 하느냐?
20 And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
21 이는 주의 눈들 앞에 사람의 길들이 있으니, 그분께서 사람의 모든 행보들을 심사하시느니라.
21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.
22 ¶ 사악한 자는 자신의 죄악들이 그 자신을 붙들 것이요, 그는 자신의 죄들의 끈들로 붙잡히리라.
22 ¶ His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.
23 그는 훈계 없이 죽을 것이요, 자신의 커다란 어리석음 가운데 그는 길을 이탈하리라.
23 He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
