1 그때 그가 더베와 루스트라에 이르렀더라. 그리고 보라, 디모데우스7란 이름으로 불리는 어떤 제자 한 명이 거기에 있었는데, 믿는 유대 여인인 어떤 여자의 아들이었으나 그의 아버지는 헬라인이었더라.
1 Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek:
2 그는 루스트라와 이코니움에 있던 형제들에게서 훌륭한 평판을 받았더라.
2 Which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium.
3 바울이 그를 자신과 함께 떠나게 하려고 하였더라. 그런즉 그 근방들에 있던 유대인들로 인하여 그를 데려다가 할례를 행하였으니, 그들 모두가 그의 아버지가 헬라인이었음을 알았기 때문이라.
3 Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: for they knew all that his father was a Greek.
4 그리하여 그들이 도시들을 경유할 때에 그들은 예루살렘에 있던 사도들과 장로들에 의하여 제정된 그 결의들을 그들에게 전달하여 지키도록 하였더라.
4 And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem.
5 그렇게 하자 교회들이 믿음 안에서 확고히 세워졌고 매일 수가 늘어났더라.
5 And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.
6 이때는 그들이 프루기아와 갈라디아 구역 도처를 다니다가 성령님에 의하여 아시아에서 말씀을 선포하는 것이 금지되었던 때라.
6 Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia,
7 그들이 무시아에 온 뒤에 그들은 비두니아 안으로 들어가려고 시도하였으나 성령께서 그들에게 승낙하지 아니하셨더라.
7 After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not.
8 그리하여 그들이 무시아를 지나가면서 트로아스로 내려왔더라.
8 And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas.
9 그러고 나서 밤에 현시가 바울에게 나타났더라. 한 마케도니아 남자가 서서 그에게 간구하며 말하기를, “마케도니아로 건너와서 우리를 도와 주소서.” 하였더라.
9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.
10 그리하여 그가 그 현시를 본 뒤에 주께서 그들에게 복음을 선포하도록 우리를 부르신 것을 명백히 이해하였으므로 우리는 즉시 마케도니아로 들어가려고 노력하였더라.
10 And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them.
11 그러므로 트로아스에서 벗어난 우리는 사모드라키아를 향하여 직선 구간으로 갔고 다음 날 네아폴리스로 향하였더라.
11 Therefore loosing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next day to Neapolis;
12 그런 다음에 거기서부터 빌립보로 향하였는데 그곳은 마케도니아 영역에 속한 으뜸가는 도시이자 식민지였더라. 그리하여 우리는 그 도시에 며칠을 거하며 있었더라.
12 And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia, and a colony: and we were in that city abiding certain days.
13 그런 다음에 우리는 안식일에 도시로부터 나와서 어떤 강변에 갔는데 그곳은 늘 기도가 드려지는 곳이었더라. 그리하여 우리는 앉아서 거기에 모여든 여자들에게 전하였더라.
13 And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.
14 ¶ 그리고 리디아란 이름으로 불리고 자주색 옷감 판매업자이며 티아티라 도시에 속하고 하나님을 경배하던 어떤 여자 한 명이 우리의 말을 들었더라. 그녀의 마음을 주께서 여셨으니, 그녀가 바울에 의하여 전해진 것들을 집중하여 들었더라.
14 ¶ And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.
15 그리하여 그녀와 그녀의 집안이 침례를 받은 후에 그녀가 우리에게 간청하며 말하기를, “만일 당신들이 제가 주께 신실하다고 판단하신다면 저의 집 안으로 오시어 거기에 거하소서.” 하였더라. 그러고는 그녀가 우리에게 강력히 촉구하였더라.
15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.
16 ¶ 그러고 나서 이러한 일이 있었으니, 우리가 기도하러 가는 동안 한 점치는 영에 점유된 어떤 젊은 여인 한 명이 우리와 만났는데, 그녀는 점치는 일로 그녀의 주인들에게 많은 소득을 가져다주었더라.
16 ¶ And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:
17 바로 그 젊은 여인이 바울과 우리를 따라와 외치며 말하기를, “이 남자들은 지극히 높으신 하나님의 종들, 곧 우리에게 구원의 길을 제시하는 자들이라.” 하였더라.
17 The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.
18 그리고 그녀가 많은 날들을 이렇게 하였더라. 그러나 바울은 가슴이 아파서 돌이켜 그 영에게 말하기를, “내가 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 너에게 명령하노니 그녀에게서 나오라.” 하였더라. 그러자 그가 바로 그 시각에 빠져나왔더라.
18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.
19 ¶ 그런 다음에 그녀의 주인들이 그들의 소득들의 소망이 사라진 것을 보자 그들은 바울과 실라를 잡아서 그들을 장터 안에 있던 치리자들에게 끌고 갔으며
19 ¶ And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers,
20 행정관들에게 그들을 데려가서 이같이 말하였더라. “유대인들인 이 남자들이 우리의 도시를 지극히 교란시키고
20 And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,
21 로마인들인 우리로서는 받아들이기에도 준수하기에도 합법적이지 않은 풍습들을 가르치나이다.”
21 And teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans.
22 그러자 무리가 그들을 대적하여 함께 들고일어났더라. 이에 그 행정관들은 그들의 옷을 찢어 벗겼고 그들을 때리라고 명령하였더라.
22 And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.
23 그리고 행정관들이 채찍들로 그들을 많이 때린 후에 행정관들은 그들을 감옥에 던져 넣고 간수에게 명하여 그들을 안전히 지키라고 하였더라.
23 And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:
24 그가 그러한 명을 받은 뒤에 그들을 안쪽 감옥 속으로 밀어 넣었고 그들의 발이 차꼬들에 단단히 채워지게 하였더라.
24 Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.
25 ¶ 이윽고 한밤중에 바울과 실라가 기도하고 하나님께 찬송들을 불러 드렸으니 죄수들이 그들의 소리를 들었더라.
25 ¶ And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.
26 그런데 갑자기 커다란 지진 하나가 있었으니, 그렇게 하여 감옥의 기초들이 흔들렸더라. 그리고 즉시 모든 문들이 열렸고 모든 이의 포박들이 저마다 풀렸더라.
26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.
27 이에 그 감옥을 지키는 자가 자신의 잠에서 깨어나 감옥의 문들이 열린 것을 보고 죄수들이 도망친 것으로 짐작하여 그가 자기 칼을 뽑아 자결하려고 하였더라.
27 And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.
28 그러나 바울이 큰 목소리로 외쳐 말하기를, “자신에게 해를 입히지 말라. 이는 우리가 모두 여기 있기 때문이라.” 하였더라.
28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.
29 그때 그가 빛을 청하고, 안으로 뛰어가 떨며 바울과 실라 앞에 와서 엎드렸더라.
29 Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,
30 그러고 나서 그들을 데리고 나와 말하기를, “선생님들이여, 제가 구원받기 위하여 무엇을 해야만 하나이까?” 하였더라.
30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
31 그러자 그들이 말하기를, “주 예수 그리스도를 믿으라. 그리하면 너는 구원을 받을 것이요, 너의 집도 그러하리라.” 하였더라.
31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
32 그러자 그들이 그에게 주의 말씀을 전하였고 그의 집 안에 있는 자들 모두에게도 그리하였더라.
32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
33 그러자 그 밤의 동일한 시각에 그가 그들을 데려가서 그들의 채찍 자국들을 씻어 주었더라. 그러고 나서 그와 그의 가족 전체가 즉각 침례를 받았더라.
33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
34 그리고 그가 그들을 자신의 집 안으로 데려간 후에 그는 그들 앞에 음식을 차렸고 그의 온 집과 더불어 하나님을 믿으며 크게 기뻐하였더라.
34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.
35 그리고 낮이 되자 행정관들이 군관들을 보내며 말하기를, “그 남자들을 가게 하라.” 하였더라.
35 And when it was day, the magistrates sent the serjeants, saying, Let those men go.
36 그러자 이렇게 말한 것을 감옥을 지키는 자가 바울에게 알리기를, “행정관들이 당신들을 가게 하려고 사람을 보냈나이다. 그러므로 이제 떠나서 평안히 가소서.” 하였더라.
36 And the keeper of the prison told this saying to Paul, The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore depart, and go in peace.
37 그러나 바울이 그들에게 말하기를, “그들은 선고를 내리지 않은 채 공개적으로 로마인들인 우리를 때렸으며 감옥 안으로 우리를 던져 넣었도다. 그러더니 이제 와서 그들이 우리를 은밀히 내몬단 말이냐? 진실로 그럴 수 없느니라. 오히려 그들로 하여금 직접 와서 우리를 밖으로 데리고 나가게 하라.” 하였더라.
37 But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romans, and have cast us into prison; and now do they thrust us out privily? nay verily; but let them come themselves and fetch us out.
38 그러자 군관들이 행정관들에게 이런 말들을 알렸더라. 이에 그들이 로마인들이었다는 것을 행정관들이 들었을 때 그들이 두려워하였더라.
38 And the serjeants told these words unto the magistrates: and they feared, when they heard that they were Romans.
39 그런즉 행정관들이 와서 그들에게 간청하였고 그들을 데리고 나가서 그 도시에서 떠나 주기를 간절히 청하였더라.
39 And they came and besought them, and brought them out, and desired them to depart out of the city.
40 그리하여 그들이 감옥에서 나와 리디아의 집 안으로 들어갔으니, 그들이 형제들을 보았을 때 그들은 형제들을 위로하고 나서 떠났더라.
40 And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.
