1 그리고 사울은 그의 죽음에 동조하고 있었더라. 그때에 예루살렘에 있던 교회를 대적하여 한 심한 박해가 있었으니, 그들이 모두 유대와 사마리아 구역들 도처에 널리 흩어졌는데 사도들만 예외였더라.

And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles.

2 그리고 독실한 사람들이 스데반을 그의 장지로 실어 옮겼고 그에 대하여 크나큰 애도를 표하였더라.

And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.

3 사울로 말하자면 그는 교회를 크게 파괴하였으니, 집집마다 침입하여 남자들과 여자들을 끌어내어 그들을 감옥에 넘겼더라.

As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.

4 그러므로 널리 흩어진 자들이 곳곳마다 다니며 말씀을 선포하였더라.

Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.

5 그때 빌립이 사마리아 도시로 내려갔고 그들에게 그리스도를 선포하였더라.

Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them.

6 그러자 백성이 한뜻이 되어 빌립이 행한 기적들을 듣고 보면서 그가 전한 그것들에 관심을 두었더라.

And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.

7 이는 불결한 영들에게 점유되었던 많은 이들에게서 그것들이 큰 목소리로 외치면서 나갔기 때문이라. 그리고 중풍들에 걸린 많은 이들과 절뚝거리던 많은 이들이 치유되었더라.

For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed.

8 그러자 그 도시 안에 크나큰 즐거움이 있었더라.

And there was great joy in that city.

9 그러나 시몬이란 이름으로 불리는 어떤 남자 한 명이 있었는데, 그가 지난날 바로 그 도시 안에서 마법을 사용하여 사마리아의 백성을 매혹하고 스스로를 어떤 대단한 이로 내세웠더라.

But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:

10 그에게 그들이 모두 관심을 두었으니, 가장 낮은 자부터 가장 위대한 자까지 말하기를, “이 사람은 하나님의 위대한 권능이라.” 하였더라.

To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God.

11 그리하여 그들이 그를 귀하게 여겼으니, 오랜 시간에 걸쳐 그가 마법들로 그들을 매혹하였기 때문이라.

And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.

12 그러나 그들이 하나님의 왕국에 관련된 것들을 선포하는 빌립과 예수 그리스도의 이름을 믿은 후에 그들이 모두 침례를 받았으니, 남자들과 여자들 모두라.

But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

13 그때 시몬 자신 또한 믿었더라. 그리고 그가 침례를 받은 후에 그는 빌립과 함께 계속 있었고 행해지는 기적들과 표적들을 보면서 경이로워하였더라.

Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.

14 이때 예루살렘에 있던 사도들이 사마리아가 하나님의 말씀을 받아들였다는 것을 듣자 그들이 저들에게 베드로와 요한을 보냈더라.

Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:

15 그들이 내려왔을 때 그들은 저들이 성령님을 받도록 저들을 위하여 기도하였더라.

Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:

16 (이는 아직까지 그분께서 저들 중 아무에게도 내려오지 아니하셨고, 저들은 오직 주 예수의 이름으로 침례만 받았기 때문이라.)

(For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)

17 그때 그들이 자신들의 두 손으로 저들에게 안수하였고 그들이 성령님을 받았더라.

Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

18 그러자 사도들이 두 손으로 안수함을 통하여 성령님이 주어진 것을 시몬이 보자 그가 그들에게 돈을 내밀며

And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,

19 말하기를, “제가 두 손으로 안수하는 자는 누구든지 그가 성령님을 받을 수 있도록 이 권능을 제게도 주소서.” 하였더라.

Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.

20 그러나 베드로가 그에게 이같이 말하였더라. “너의 돈이 너와 더불어 망하기를 바라노라. 이는 네가 하나님의 선물이 돈으로 구매될 수 있다고 생각하였기 때문이라.

But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.

21 너는 이 사안에 있어서 분담할 몫도, 할당될 몫도 얻지 못하리라. 이는 너의 마음이 하나님의 목전에서 옳지 아니하기 때문이라.

Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.

22 그러므로 너의 이 사악함을 회개하고 하나님께 기도하라. 어쩌면 혹시라도 너의 마음의 생각이 너에게서 용서될 수도 있으리라.

Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.

23 이는 네가 극악무도함 가운데 있으며 죄악에 속박되어 있음을 내가 알았기 때문이라.”

For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.

24 그때 시몬이 대답하여 말하기를, “당신들은 나를 위하여 주께 기도하시어 당신들이 언급한 이런 것들 중 아무것도 나에게 임하지 않게 하소서.” 하였더라.

Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me.

25 그리하여 그들이 주의 말씀을 증언하고 선포한 후에 그들이 예루살렘으로 되돌아갔으며 사마리아인들의 많은 촌락들 안에서 복음을 선포하였더라.

And they, when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.

26 이후에 주의 천사가 빌립에게 전하여 말하기를, “일어나서 예루살렘에서 사막인 가자로 내려가는 길까지 남쪽을 향하여 가라.” 하였더라.

And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.

27 그리하여 빌립이 일어나서 갔더라. 그런데 보라, 에티오피아 사람, 곧 에티오피아인들의 칸다케 여왕 아래에서 대단한 권위를 가졌고 그녀의 모든 보물 창고의 책임을 맡은 내시가 경배드리기 위하여 예루살렘으로 왔다가

And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,

28 되돌아가는 중이었고 그의 병거에 앉아서 예언자 이사-야의 글을 읽었더라.

Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.

29 그때 성령께서 빌립에게 말씀하시기를, “가까이 가서 이 병거에 스스로 합류하라.” 하셨느니라.

Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.

30 그러자 빌립이 그를 향하여 거기로 달려갔는데 예언자 이사-야의 글을 낭독하는 그의 말을 들었기에 말하기를, “당신이 낭독하고 있는 것을 당신은 이해하는가?” 하였더라.

And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?

31 그러자 그가 말하기를, “어떤 사람이 나를 지도하지 않는다면 내가 어떻게 이해할 수 있으리오?” 하였더라. 그러자 그는 빌립이 올라와서 자신 곁에 앉을 것을 그에게 간절히 청하였더라.

And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.

32 그가 읽던 성경 기록은 이 대목이었더라. “그가 도살장에 가는 양같이 끌려갔으며, 그의 털 깎는 자 앞에서 말하지 못하는 어린양같이 그가 자신의 입을 그처럼 열지 아니하였도다.

The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:

33 그의 굴욕 가운데 그의 공의는 박탈당하였도다. 그런즉 누가 그의 세대를 선언하리오? 이는 그의 생명이 땅에서 수탈되었기 때문이라.”

In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.

34 그러자 그 내시가 빌립에게 대답하여 말하기를, “내가 당신에게 간구하노라. 그 예언자가 누구에 관하여 이것을 언급하고 있는가? 자신에 관해서인가 아니면 어떤 다른 사람에 관해서인가?” 하였더라.

And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?

35 그때 빌립이 자신의 입을 열었으니, 바로 그 성경 기록에서 시작하여 그에게 예수님을 선포하였더라.

Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

36 이윽고 그들이 자신들의 길을 가는 동안 그들은 어떤 물에 도달하였더라. 그러자 그 내시가 말하기를, “보라, 여기에 물이 있도다. 내가 침례를 받는 데에 무엇이 방해하리오?” 하였더라.

And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

37 이에 빌립이 말하기를, “만일 당신이 당신의 마음을 다하여 믿는다면 당신은 침례를 받을 수 있느니라.” 하였더라. 그러자 그가 대답하여 말하기를, “예수 그리스도께서 하나님의 아들이신 것을 나는 믿노라.” 하였더라.

And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

38 그리하여 그가 병거를 가만히 세우도록 명령하였고 그들이 둘 다 물속으로 내려갔으니 빌립과 내시 모두라. 그런 다음에 그가 그에게 침례를 주었더라.

And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

39 그러고 나서 그들이 물에서 올라왔을 때 주의 영께서 빌립을 채어 가셨으니, 내시는 그를 더 이상 보지 못하였더라. 그러고 나서 그는 크게 기뻐하면서 그의 길을 갔더라.

And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.

40 그러나 빌립은 아조투스에서 발견되었더라. 그리고 그가 자신이 카이사랴에 도착할 때까지 모든 도시들을 경유하면서 그 안에서 선포하였더라.

But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Caesarea.
