1 이제 예수님께서 헤롯왕의 날들에 유대의 베들레헴에서 태어나셨을 때, 보라, 동방에서 지혜로운 사람들이 예루살렘으로 왔으니,
1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
2 말하기를, “유대인들의 왕으로 태어나신 그분은 어디에 계시는가? 이는 우리가 동방에서 그분의 별을 보았고 그분께 경배드리고자 왔기 때문이라.” 하니라.
2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
3 헤롯왕이 이런 일들을 들었을 때, 그가 불안해하였으며 그와 함께한 온 예루살렘도 그러하였더라.
3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
4 그런즉 그가 모든 수석 제사장들과 백성의 서기관들을 한데 모았을 때, 그는 그들로 하여금 그리스도께서 어디에서 태어나실지를 말하도록 다그쳤더라.
4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
5 그러자 그들이 그에게 이같이 말하였더라. “유대의 베들레헴이니이다. 이는 예언자를 통하여 이와 같이 기록되기를,
5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
6 ‘그런즉 유-다 지역 가운데 있는 너, 베들레헴은 유-다의 통치자들 가운데서 가장 작지 아니하도다. 이는 너에게서 나의 백성 이스라엘을 다스릴 한 지배자가 나올 것이기 때문이라.’ 하였기 때문이니이다.”
6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
7 그때 헤롯이 그 지혜로운 사람들을 은밀하게 불렀을 때, 그가 그들에게 어느 시간에 그 별이 나타났는지를 열심히 물어보았더라.
7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.
8 그러면서 그가 그들을 베들레헴으로 보내며 말하기를, “가서 그 어린아이를 부지런히 찾아보라. 그리고 너희가 그를 발견하면 나에게 말을 다시 전해 주어 나도 그에게 가서 경배하게 하라.” 하였더라.
8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.
9 그들이 왕의 말을 듣고 난 후에 그들은 출발하였는데, 보라, 동방에서 그들이 보았던 그 별, 곧 그것이 그 어린아이가 있던 곳에 도달하여 설 때까지 그들을 앞서 갔더라.
9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
10 그들이 그 별을 보았을 때 그들은 지극히 크나큰 즐거움으로 크게 기뻐하였더라.
10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
11 ¶ 그리고 그들이 집 안으로 들어갔을 때 그들은 그 어린아이가 자기 어머니 마리아와 함께 있는 것을 보았고 그분께 엎드려 경배하였더라. 그러고 나서 그들이 자신들의 보물들을 열어 보인 후에 그들은 그분께 예물들을 드렸으니, 곧 황금과 유향과 몰약이더라.
11 ¶ And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.
12 이후에 그들이 꿈속에서 헤롯에게 되돌아가지 말라는 하나님의 경고를 받았으므로 그들은 또 다른 길을 통하여 자신들의 본국으로 떠났더라.
12 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
13 그리고 그들이 떠나자, 보라, 주의 천사가 꿈속에 요셉에게 나타나서 말하기를, “일어나서 그 어린아이와 그분의 어머니를 데리고 이집트로 도망하라. 그리고 너는 내가 너에게 말을 전해 줄 때까지 거기에 있으라. 이는 헤롯이 그분을 죽이려고 그 어린아이를 찾을 것이기 때문이라.” 하였더라.
13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.
14 그가 일어난 후, 밤에 그 어린아이와 그분의 어머니를 데리고 그가 이집트로 떠났더라.
14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:
15 그리하여 헤롯이 죽을 때까지 거기에 있었으니, 예언자를 통하여 주에 관하여 언급된 것이 성취되게 하려 함이라. 말씀하시기를, “이집트에서 내가 나의 아들을 불러내었노라.” 하신 것이라.
15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.
16 ¶ 그 뒤에 헤롯이 그 지혜로운 사람들에게 자신이 농락당하였음을 알게 되었을 때, 그가 극도로 격노하며 사람을 보내었으니, 그 지혜로운 사람들에게 그가 열심히 물어보았던 그 시간에 따라 베들레헴과 그곳의 모든 지경들에 있던 두 살부터 그 아래인 아이들을 모두 살해하였더라.
16 ¶ Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.
17 그때 예언자 예레미-야를 통하여 언급된 것이 성취되었더라. 말씀하시기를,
17 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying,
18 “라마에서 한 음성이 들렸으니, 애통이요, 울음이요, 심한 애곡이요, 자신의 자녀들로 인하여 라헬이 흐느껴 우는 것이니, 자녀들이 없으므로 그녀가 위로받으려 하지 아니하는도다.” 하신 것이라.
18 In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.
19 ¶ 그러나 보라, 헤롯이 죽자 주의 천사가 이집트에서 요셉에게 꿈속에 나타나
19 ¶ But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,
20 말하기를, “일어나서 그 어린아이와 그분의 어머니를 데리고 이스라엘 지역으로 들어가라. 이는 그 어린아이의 생명을 찾던 자들이 죽었기 때문이라.” 하였더라.
20 Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life.
21 이에 그가 일어나서 그 어린아이와 그분의 어머니를 데리고 이스라엘 지역으로 들어갔더라.
21 And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.
22 그러나 아르켈라우스가 그의 아버지 헤롯을 대신하여 유대를 통치한다는 것을 요셉이 들었을 때, 그가 그리로 가는 것을 무서워하였더라. 그럼에도 불구하고 그가 꿈속에서 하나님의 경고를 받아 갈릴리에 속한 구역들로 길을 틀어 들어갔더라.
22 But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee:
23 그리하여 그가 나사렛이라 불리는 도시로 와서 거하였으니, 예언자들을 통하여 “그가 나사렛인으로 불리게 되리라.” 하고 언급된 것이 성취되게 하려 함이라.
23 And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.
