1 아침이 되자 모든 수석 제사장들과 백성의 장로들이 그분을 사형에 처하게 하고자 예수님을 대적하여 의논하였더라.

When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:

2 그런즉 그들이 그분을 결박하였을 때, 그들은 그분을 끌고 나가서 총독 본디오 빌라도에게 그분을 넘겨주었더라.

And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.

3 ¶ 그때 그분을 배반한 유-다가 그분께서 정죄받으신 것을 자신이 목격하자, 스스로 돌이켜 수석 제사장들과 장로들에게 은화 삼십 개를 다시 가져가며

¶ Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,

4 말하기를, “내가 그 무고한 피를 배반한 것으로 인하여 나는 죄를 지었노라.” 하였더라. 그러자 그들이 말하기를, “그것이 우리와 무슨 상관이냐? 네가 그것을 처리하라.” 하였더라.

Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.

5 그러자 그가 그 은화들을 성전 안에 던져 버리고 떠났으며 가서 스스로 목을 매달았더라.

And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.

6 이에 수석 제사장들이 그 은화들을 취하며 말하기를, “그것이 핏값이기에 그것들을 성전 금고 안으로 넣는 것은 합법적이지 않도다.” 하였더라.

And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.

7 그리하여 그들이 의논한 뒤에 그것들로 타국인들을 매장하기 위한 토기장이의 밭을 매입하였더라.

And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in.

8 이런 이유로 그 밭이 오늘날까지 “피의 밭”이라고 불렸더라.

Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day.

9 그때 예언자 예레미-야에 의하여 언급된 것이 성취되었더라. 말씀하시기를, “그러자 그들이 값이 매겨진 자의 가격, 곧 이스라엘 자녀들에게 속한 자들이 값을 매긴 자의 가격인 은화 삼십 개를 취하였도다.

Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value;

10 그리고 주께서 나에게 지정하신 대로 그것들을 토기장이의 밭 값으로 주었도다.” 하신 것이라.

And gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me.

11 이윽고 예수님께서 총독 앞에 서셨으며 총독이 그분께 물으며 말하기를, “네가 유대인들의 왕이냐?” 하였더라. 그러자 예수님께서 그에게 말씀하시기를, “네가 말하고 있느니라.” 하셨느니라.

And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.

12 그리고 그분께서 수석 제사장들과 장로들로부터 고소를 당하실 때 그분께서는 아무것도 대답하지 아니하셨느니라.

And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.

13 그때 빌라도가 그분께 말하기를, “그들이 너를 대적하여 얼마나 많은 것들을 증거하는지 너는 듣지 아니하느냐?” 하였더라.

Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?

14 그런데 그분께서는 그에게 결코 한마디도 대답하지 아니하셨으니, 총독이 대단히 놀라워할 정도였더라.

And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly.

15 이제 그 명절에는 총독이 백성이 바라는 죄수 하나를 그들에게 풀어주던 관행이 있었더라.

Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would.

16 그리고 그때 그들에게는 바라바라 불리는, 이름 있는 죄수가 있었더라.

And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.

17 그러므로 그들이 한데 모였을 때 빌라도가 그들에게 말하기를, “너희는 내가 누구를 너희에게 풀어주기를 원하느냐? 바라바냐? 아니면 그리스도라고 불리는 예수냐?” 하였더라.

Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?

18 이는 그들이 그분을 시기하므로 넘겨주었음을 그가 알았기 때문이라.

For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.

19 ¶ 그가 심판석에 앉았을 때 그의 아내가 그에게 사람을 보내며 말하기를, “당신은 그 의인과 아무 상관도 하지 마소서. 이는 제가 이날 꿈속에서 그로 인하여 많은 것들로 고통받았기 때문이니이다.” 하였더라.

¶ When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.

20 그러나 수석 제사장들과 장로들은 무리가 바라바를 요구하고 예수님을 멸하게 하도록 그들을 설득하였더라.

But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.

21 총독이 그들에게 대답하여 말하기를, “너희는 내가 그 두 사람 중에서 누구를 너희에게 놓아주기 원하느냐?” 하였더라. 그들이 말하기를, “바라바이니이다.” 하였더라.

The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.

22 빌라도가 그들에게 말하기를, “그렇다면 내가 그리스도라고 불리는 예수를 어떻게 하랴?” 하니라. 그들 모두가 그에게 말하기를, “그가 십자가에 못 박히도록 하소서.” 하니라.

Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.

23 그러자 총독이 말하기를, “어째서냐? 무슨 악을 그가 행하였느냐?” 하였더라. 그러나 그들은 더욱 소리를 지르며 말하기를, “그가 십자가에 못 박히도록 하소서.” 하였더라.

And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.

24 ¶ 빌라도가 자신이 도무지 설복할 수 없고 오히려 폭동이 조성된 것을 보았을 때 그는 물을 가져와서 무리 앞에서 자기 두 손을 씻으며 말하기를, “이 의인의 피에 대하여 나는 무고하도다. 너희가 그것을 처리하라.” 하였더라.

¶ When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.

25 그때 모든 백성이 대답하여 말하기를, “그의 피가 우리 위에 있기를 바라며 또한 우리 자녀들 위에 있기를 바라나이다.” 하였더라.

Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

26 ¶ 그때 그가 바라바를 그들에게 풀어주었더라. 그리고 그가 예수님을 채찍질한 후에 그는 그분을 십자가에 못 박히도록 넘겨주었더라.

¶ Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

27 그때 총독의 군인들이 공공 회관 안으로 예수님을 데려가서 군인들의 부대 전체를 그분께로 모았더라.

Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.

28 그러자 그들이 그분의 옷을 벗겼으며 주홍색 관복을 그분께 입혔더라.

And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.

29 ¶ 그리고 그들이 가시나무로 하나의 왕관을 엮은 후에 그들이 그것을 그분의 머리 위에 씌우고 갈대 하나를 그분의 오른손에 쥐여 주었더라. 그러고는 그들이 그분 앞에서 무릎을 꿇고 그분을 조롱하며 말하기를, “유대인들의 왕, 만세!” 하였더라.

¶ And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!

30 그러면서 그들은 그분께 침을 뱉고 갈대를 빼앗으며 그분의 머리를 쳤더라.

And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.

31 그런 다음에 그들이 그분을 조롱하고 나서는 그 관복을 그들이 그분에게서 벗겨내고 그분께 그분 자신의 의상을 입혀서 십자가에 못 박고자 그분을 끌고 나갔더라.

And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.

32 그리고 그들이 나가는 동안 시몬이라는 이름을 가진 키레네 사람을 그들이 발견하였더라. 그들이 그분의 십자가를 그에게 강제로 짊어지게 하였더라.

And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.

33 그리하여 그들이 골고다, 즉 해골의 장소라 불리는 곳에 이르자

And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,

34 ¶ 그들이 쓸개즙이 섞인 식초를 그분께 마시라고 주었는데 그분께서 친히 그것을 맛보시고는 마시려 하지 않으셨더라.

¶ They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.

35 그러고 나서 그들이 그분을 십자가에 못 박았으며, 제비들을 던져 그분의 의복들을 나누었더라. 이는 예언자를 통하여 언급된 것이 성취되게 하려 함이니, “그들은 자기들끼리 나의 의복들을 나누었으며 나의 겉옷을 놓고 그들이 제비들을 던졌나이다.” 하신 것이라.

And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.

36 그리고 그들은 거기에 앉아 그분을 지켜보았더라.

And sitting down they watched him there;

37 그리고 그분의 머리 위에 “이 사람은 유대인들의 왕 예수라.” 하고 기록된 그분의 죄명을 달아 놓았더라.

And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

38 그때 두 명의 도둑이 그분과 함께 십자가에 못 박혔으니, 하나는 오른편에 또 하나는 왼편에 있더라.

Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.

39 ¶ 그리고 지나가던 자들이 자신들의 머리를 내저으면서 그분을 욕하며

¶ And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,

40 말하기를, “성전을 파괴하고 삼 일 만에 그것을 짓는 너는 너 자신을 구원하라. 만일 네가 하나님의 아들이라면 십자가에서 내려오라.” 하였더라.

And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.

41 수석 제사장들 역시 서기관들과 장로들과 함께 그분을 이와 같이 조롱하며 말하였더라.

Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,

42 “그가 다른 이들은 구원하였으나 그가 자신은 구원할 수 없도다. 만일 그가 이스라엘의 왕이라면 그로 하여금 지금 십자가에서 내려오게 하라. 그리하면 우리가 그를 믿겠노라.

He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.

43 그가 하나님을 신뢰하였도다. 그분께서 그를 얻기 원하신다면 지금 친히 그를 구출하시도록 하라. 이는 그가 말하기를, ‘내가 하나님의 아들이라.’ 하였기 때문이라.”

He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.

44 그분과 함께 십자가에 못 박힌 도둑들 역시 그분께 동일한 말로 비난하였더라.

The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.

45 이때 제육시부터 제구시까지 어둠이 온 육지를 덮었더라.

Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.

46 그리고 제구시경에 예수님께서 큰 소리로 외치며 말씀하시기를, “엘리, 엘리, 라마 사박다니?” 하셨으니, 곧 “나의 하나님, 나의 하나님, 어찌하여 당신께서는 저를 버리셨나이까?” 라는 말이라.

And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

47 거기에 서 있던 자들 중 일부가 자신들이 그 말을 듣자 말하기를, “이 사람이 엘리-야를 부른다.” 하였더라.

Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.

48 그러자 그들 중 한 명이 즉각 달려가서 해면을 취하여 그것을 식초로 채웠으며 갈대에 그것을 달아 그분께 마시라고 주었더라.

And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.

49 그 밖의 사람들이 말하기를, “가만 두라. 엘리-야가 그를 구원하러 올지 우리가 알아보자.” 하였더라.

The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.

50 ¶ 그분께서 다시금 큰 목소리로 외치셨을 때, 예수님께서 숨을 거두셨더라.

¶ Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.

51 그런데 보라, 성전 휘장막이 위에서 아래까지 둘로 찢어졌더라. 또한 땅이 진동하였으며, 바위들이 갈라졌더라.

And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

52 그러고 나서 무덤들이 열렸으며 잠들었던 많은 성도들의 몸이 일어났으니,

And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,

53 그분의 부활 후에 무덤들에서 나왔고 거룩한 도성으로 들어가서 많은 이들에게 나타났더라.

And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

54 이때 백부장과 그와 함께 예수님을 지켜보고 있던 자들이 지진과 일어난 그 일들을 보자 그들이 대단히 두려워하며 말하기를, “진실로 이분은 하나님의 아들이셨도다.” 하였더라.

Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.

55 또한 거기에 많은 여자들이 멀리 떨어져 바라보고 있었는데, 그들은 그분을 섬기며 갈릴리에서부터 예수님을 따랐던 자들이라.

And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:

56 그들 가운데 막달라인 마리아와 또 야고보와 요세스의 어머니 마리아와 또 세배대의 자녀들의 어머니도 있었더라.

Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children.

57 저녁이 되자 요셉이란 이름으로 불리는 아리마대아의 부유한 남자가 왔으니, 그 자신도 예수님의 제자였더라.

When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple:

58 그가 빌라도에게 가서 예수님의 시신을 달라고 애원하였더라. 그때 빌라도가 그 시신이 그에게 넘겨지도록 명령하였더라.

He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.

59 그런 다음에 요셉이 그 시신을 가져왔을 때 그는 그것을 한 장의 깨끗한 아마천으로 감쌌으며,

And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,

60 그가 바위 속을 파낸, 자기 소유의 새 묘지에 그 시신을 안치하였더라. 그러고 나서 그는 커다란 돌 하나를 그 돌무덤의 문에 굴려 놓고 떠났더라.

And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.

61 그리고 막달라인 마리아와 다른 마리아가 그 돌무덤 맞은편에 앉아 있었더라.

And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.

62 ¶ 이제 예비일을 뒤따르는 다음 날에 수석 제사장들과 바리새파 사람들이 함께 빌라도에게 와서

¶ Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,

63 이같이 말하였더라. “빌라도 경이여, 그 속이는 자가 아직 살아 있는 동안 말한 것을 우리가 기억하나니, ‘삼 일 후에 내가 다시 살아나리라.’ 한 것이니이다.

Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.

64 그러므로 그 돌무덤이 셋째 날까지 굳게 지켜지도록 명령하소서. 이는 그의 제자들이 밤에 와서 그를 훔쳐 간 다음에 백성에게 말하기를, ‘그가 죽은 자들로부터 살아났도다.’ 하여서 마지막 과오가 처음 과오보다 더 나쁘게 되지 아니하도록 하려 함이니이다.”

Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.

65 빌라도가 그들에게 말하기를, “너희에게 경비대 하나가 있도다. 너희의 길을 가서 너희가 할 수 있는 데까지 그것을 굳게 지키라.” 하였더라.

Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can.

66 그렇게 하여 그들이 가서 그 돌을 봉인하고 경비대 하나를 세움으로써 그 돌무덤을 굳게 지켰더라.

So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.
