데살로니가전서 4장

1 그러니 형제들아, 더욱이 우리가 주 예수를 통하여 너희에게 간청하고 또 너희에게 권면하노니, 너희가 마땅히 어떻게 살아가야 하고 또 어떻게 하나님을 기쁘게 해 드려야 하는지를 너희가 우리에게서 받은 것같이, 너희가 그렇게 더욱더 넘치게 행하라.

1 Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.

2 이는 우리가 주 예수를 통하여 너희에게 어떤 명령들을 주었는지 너희가 알기 때문이요,

2 For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.

3 하나님의 뜻은 이것이기 때문이니, 곧 너희의 성결이라. 이는 너희로 하여금 음행을 단절하게 하려 함이요,

3 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:

4 너희 가운데 있는 모든 자마다 어떻게 자신의 그릇을 성결과 존귀 가운데서 소유하는지 알게 하려 함이며,

4 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;

5 하나님을 모르는 이방인들과 똑같이 색정의 정욕 가운데서 소유하지 않게 하려 함이요,

5 Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:

6 어떤 사안에서도 정도를 넘어 자기 형제를 속여 빼앗는 사람이 아무도 없게 하려 함이니, 우리 역시 너희에게 미리 경고하고 증언한 대로 주께서는 이런 자들 모두에게 복수하는 분이시기 때문이라.

6 That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.

7 이는 하나님께서 우리를 불결함이 아니라 거룩함에 이르도록 부르셨기 때문이라.

7 For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.

8 그러므로 멸시하는 자는 사람이 아니라 하나님을 멸시하는 것이니, 그분께서 또한 우리에게 그분의 거룩한 영을 주셨느니라.

8 He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit.

9 그러나 형제 사랑에 관하여는 내가 너희에게 쓰는 것이 너희에게 필요하지 아니하노라. 이는 서로 사랑하도록 너희 자신이 하나님께 가르침을 받았기 때문이라.

9 But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.

10 그런즉 정녕 너희는 마케도니아 전체에 있는 모든 형제들을 향하여 그것을 행하는도다. 그러나 우리가 너희에게 간청하노니, 형제들아, 너희는 더욱더 많이 행하라.

10 And indeed ye do it toward all the brethren which are in all Macedonia: but we beseech you, brethren, that ye increase more and more;

11 그리고 우리가 너희에게 명령하였던 대로 너희는 조용하기를 힘쓰고, 너희 자신의 임무를 행하기를 힘쓰며, 너희 자신의 손으로 일하기를 힘쓰라.

11 And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;

12 이는 너희로 하여금 외부에 있는 자들을 향하여 정직하게 살아가게 하려 함이요, 또 너희로 하여금 아무것도 부족하지 않게 하려 함이라.

12 That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.

13 그러나 형제들아, 나는 너희가 잠들어 있는 자들에 관하여 무지하기를 바라지 아니하노니, 곧 너희가 아무 소망도 없는 다른 자들같이 슬퍼하지 않게 하려 함이라.

13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

14 이는 만일 예수님께서 죽으셨다가 다시 일어나신 것을 우리가 믿는다면, 바로 그처럼 하나님께서는 예수님 안에서 자고 있는 자들 역시 그분과 함께 데려오실 것이기 때문이라.

14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

15 이는 우리가 주의 말씀에 의하여 이것을 너희에게 말하기 때문이니, 주의 오심까지 살아남아 있는 우리가 잠들어 있는 자들보다 앞서지 못하리라는 것이라.

15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

16 이는 주께서 환호와 천사장의 음성과 하나님의 나팔 소리와 함께 하늘로부터 친히 내려오실 것이기 때문이라. 그리하면 그리스도 안에서 죽은 자들이 먼저 살아나리라.

16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17 그다음에 살아서 남아 있는 우리도 구름들 속으로 그들과 함께 붙들려 올라가 공중에서 주를 만나리라. 그리하여 우리가 언제나 주와 함께 있으리라.

17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

18 이런 이유로 이 말씀들로 서로 위로하라.

18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
