야고보서 1장
1 하나님의 종이요, 주 예수 그리스도의 종인 야고보는 널리 흩어져 있는 열두 지파에게 인사하노라.
1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
2 나의 형제들아, 너희가 갖가지 시험들에 빠질 때면 그것을 모두 즐거움으로 여기라.
2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
3 이는 너희의 믿음의 시련이 인내를 이룬다는 이것을 알기 때문이라.
3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
4 그러나 인내가 그녀의 완전한 역사를 이루게 하라. 이는 너희가 완전해지고 빠짐없이 갖추어져 아무것도 부족하지 않게 하려 함이라.
4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
5 만일 너희 중 누군가 지혜가 부족하다면, 그로 하여금 모든 사람들에게 관대하게 주시며 질책하지 아니하시는 하나님께 구하게 하라. 그리하면 그것이 그에게 주어지리라.
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6 그러나 그로 하여금 어떤 일에도 흔들림 없이 믿음 안에서 구하게 하라. 이는 흔들리는 자는 바람에 밀려 요동치는 바다의 파도와 같기 때문이라.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7 이는 그 사람은 자신이 주께로부터 어떤 것이든 받으리라고 생각하지 말아야 하기 때문이라.
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
8 이중적인 생각을 품은 사람은 그의 모든 길들에서 불안정하니라.
8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
9 낮은 지위에 있는 형제는 그가 크게 높여진 것으로 인하여 크게 기뻐할지어다.
9 Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:
10 그러나 부자는 풀의 꽃과 같이 그가 사라져 버릴 것이기에 자신이 낮추어지는 것으로 인하여 크게 기뻐할지어다.
10 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.
11 이는 해가 타오르는 열기와 함께 떠오르자마자 오히려 그것이 풀을 시들게 하여 풀의 꽃이 떨어지고 그것의 우아한 모양새가 망가지기 때문이라. 그와 같이 부유한 사람도 그의 길들에서 사라져 가리라.
11 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.
12 시험을 견디는 사람은 복되도다. 이는 그가 시련을 받은 후에, 주께서 그분을 사랑하는 자들에게 약속하신 생명의 왕관을 그가 받을 것이기 때문이라.
12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
13 아무도 자신이 시험을 당할 때, “나는 하나님께 시험을 받는다.”라고 말하지 말라. 이는 하나님께서는 악으로 시험을 당할 수 없으시며 또한 그분께서 어떤 사람도 악으로 시험하지 아니하시기 때문이라.
13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
14 그러나 그가 자기 자신의 정욕에 이끌려 유혹을 받을 때 모든 사람이 저마다 시험을 받는 것이라.
14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15 그렇다면 정욕이 잉태할 때 그것이 죄를 낳고, 죄는 그것이 이루어졌을 때 사망을 낳느니라.
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
16 나의 사랑을 받는 형제들아, 잘못을 범하지 말라.
16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.
17 모든 좋은 선물과 모든 완전한 선물이 저마다 위로부터, 곧 빛들의 아버지께로부터 내려오나니, 그분께는 변함도 없고 회전하는 그림자도 없느니라.
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
18 그분 자신의 뜻에 따라 친히 진리의 말씀으로 우리를 낳으셨으니, 우리로 하여금 그분의 창조물들 중 첫 열매들의 한 종류가 되게 하려 하심이라.
18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
19 이러한 이유로 나의 사랑을 받는 형제들아, 사람마다 듣기는 빨리하고, 말하기는 더디 하며, 격노하기도 더디 하라.
19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
20 이는 사람의 격노가 하나님의 의를 이루지 아니하기 때문이라.
20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
21 이러한 이유로 모든 더러움과 넘쳐나는 간악함을 치워 버리고, 접목된 말씀을 온유함으로 받아들이라. 그 말씀은 너희의 혼들을 능히 구원할 수 있느니라.
21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
22 그러나 너희는 말씀을 실행하는 자들이 되라. 그리하여 너희 자신을 속이면서 오로지 듣기만 하는 자들이 되지 말라.
22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 이는 만일 누군가 말씀을 듣는 자가 되고 실행하는 자가 되지 않으면, 그는 자신의 본래 얼굴을 유리 거울로 보고 있는 사람과 같기 때문이라.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24 이는 그가 자신을 보고는 자기 길을 가서 즉각 그가 어떤 부류의 사람이었는지 잊어버리기 때문이라.
24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25 그러나 누구든지 자유의 완전한 법을 들여다보고 그 안에 계속 있으면 그는 듣고 잊어버리는 자가 아니요, 오히려 그 일을 실행하는 자니, 이 사람은 자신의 행실로 복을 받으리라.
25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
26 만일 너희 가운데 어떤 사람이 신앙심이 있어 보이면서 자기 혀를 제어하지 아니하고 오히려 자기 자신의 마음을 속인다면 이 사람의 신앙심은 헛된 것이라.
26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
27 하나님, 곧 아버지 앞에서 순수하고 더럽혀지지 않은 신앙심은 이것이니, 자신들의 고난 가운데 있는, 아버지 없는 자들과 과부들을 방문하는 것이요, 세상으로부터 자신을 흠 없이 지키는 것이라.
27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
