디도서 1장

1 하나님의 종과 예수 그리스도의 사도 된 바울은 하나님의 택함받은 자들의 믿음과 경건에 따른 진리를 인정함에 따라

1 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;

2 영생의 소망 안에서 사도가 되었노라. 이 영생은 거짓말하실 수 없는 하나님께서 세상이 시작되기 이전에 약속하셨으나

2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

3 그분의 말씀을 합당한 때들에 명백하게 드러내셨으니, 우리 구원자이신 하나님의 명령을 따라 나에게 위임된 복음 선포를 통해서라.

3 But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;

4 공통된 믿음을 따라 나 자신의 아들이 된 디도에게 편지하노라. 하나님 아버지와 우리 구원자이신 주 예수 그리스도로부터 은혜와 자비와 평안이 있기를 기원하노라.

4 To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.

5 이런 까닭에 내가 너를 크레타에 남겨 두었으니, 네가 부족한 것들을 정리하고 내가 너를 임명한 것처럼 모든 도시에 저마다 장로들을 선임하게 하려 함이라.

5 For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:

6 만일 어떤 이가 비난받는 일이 없고, 한 아내의 남편이며, 방탕하다거나 제멋대로 한다는 비판을 받지 않는 신실한 자녀들을 두고 있다면 그리하라.

6 If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.

7 이는 감독은 하나님의 청지기로서 비난받을 일이 없어야 하며, 자기 뜻을 고집하지 않고, 급히 성내지 않으며, 술에 자신을 내주지 않고, 구타하는 자가 아니며, 더러운 이익에 자신을 내주지 않아야 하기 때문이라.

7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;

8 다만 그는 환대하기를 사랑하는 자요, 선한 사람들을 사랑하는 자며, 냉철하고, 공정하며, 거룩하고, 절제하며,

8 But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;

9 자신이 가르침을 받아 온 대로 신실한 말씀을 굳게 붙잡아야 하리니, 그로 하여금 반박하는 자들을 건전한 교리로 권면하고 확신시키게 하려 함이라.

9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

10 이는 제멋대로 행하는 자들과 헛된 말로 수다떠는 자들과 속이는 자들이 많기 때문이니, 특별히 할례자들에 속한 자들이 그러하니라.

10 For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:

11 그들의 입은 반드시 막혀야 하리니, 그들은 더러운 이익 때문에 자신들이 마땅히 가르치지 말아야 할 것들을 가르치면서 온 집들을 뒤엎고 있느니라.

11 Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.

12 그들 중 한 사람, 곧 그들 자신의 예언자도 말하기를, ‘크레타인들은 늘 거짓말쟁이들이요, 악한 짐승들이요, 게으른 탐식가들이라.’ 하니라.

12 One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies.

13 이 증거는 참되니라. 이런 이유로 그들이 믿음 안에서 건전해지도록 그들을 매섭게 꾸짖으라.

13 This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;

14 유대인의 지어 낸 이야기들과 진리로부터 돌이킨 사람들의 명령들에 관심을 두지 말라.

14 Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

15 순수한 자들에게는 모든 것들이 순수하나 더럽혀진 자들과 믿지 않는 자들에게는 아무것도 순수하지 않고 오히려 그들의 생각과 양심까지 더럽혀지느니라.

15 Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.

16 그들은 자신들이 하나님을 안다고 공언하나 그들이 행위들로는 그분을 부인하니, 가증하고 불순종하며 모든 선한 행위마다 버림받은 자들이라.

16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
