에스라 9장

1 이제 이런 일들이 이루어진 뒤에 통치자들이 나에게 와서 이같이 말하였더라. “이스라엘 백성과 제사장들과 레위인들이 그 지역들의 백성들, 곧 가나안족들과 히타이트족들과 프리즈족들과 여부스족들과 암몬족들과 모압족들과 이집트인들과 아모리족들의 가증함들을 따라 행하면서 저들로부터 자신들을 구별시키지 아니하였나이다.

1 Now when these things were done, the princes came to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the people of the lands, doing according to their abominations, even of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites.

2 이는 그들이 자신들과 자신들의 아들들을 위해서 저들의 딸들을 얻어 주었기 때문이니이다. 그렇게 하여 거룩한 씨가 자신들을 그 지역들의 백성들과 섞었나이다. 진정 통치자들과 치리자들의 손이 이 범법에 있어 으뜸이었나이다.”

2 For they have taken of their daughters for themselves, and for their sons: so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the people of those lands: yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this trespass.

3 그러자 내가 이것을 들었을 때, 나는 나의 의복과 나의 덧옷을 찢고 나의 머리털과 나의 수염을 뜯으며 경악한 채로 앉아 있었더라.

3 And when I heard this thing, I rent my garment and my mantle, and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard, and sat down astonied.

4 그때, 잡혀갔었던 자들의 불법 때문에 이스라엘의 하나님의 말씀들에 떨었던 모든 이가 저마다 나에게로 결집되었더라. 그리고 나는 저녁 희생제까지 경악한 채로 앉아 있었더라.

4 Then were assembled unto me every one that trembled at the words of the God of Israel, because of the transgression of those that had been carried away; and I sat astonied until the evening sacrifice.

5 ¶ 그리고 저녁 희생제 때 내가 나의 중압감을 떨치고 일어났더라. 그리고 나의 의복과 나의 덧옷을 찢은 상태로 나는 나의 두 무릎을 꿇었고 나의 두 손을 주 나의 하나님께로 펼쳤으며,

5 ¶ And at the evening sacrifice I arose up from my heaviness; and having rent my garment and my mantle, I fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands unto the LORD my God,

6 이같이 말씀드렸더라. “오, 나의 하나님이여, 제가 나의 하나님이신 당신께 제 얼굴을 들어 올리기가 부끄러워 얼굴을 붉히나이다. 이는 저희의 죄악들이 저희의 머리를 넘어 증가하였고 저희의 범법이 하늘들까지 자라났기 때문이니이다.

6 And said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God: for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass is grown up unto the heavens.

7 저희의 조상들의 날들 이래 저희가 오늘날까지 크나큰 범법 가운데 있나이다. 그리고 저희의 죄악들로 인하여 저희와 저희의 왕들과 저희의 제사장들이 그 지역들에 있는 왕들의 손안에 넘겨졌고 칼과 포로 생활과 약탈물과 얼굴의 당혹감에 이르렀으니, 그것이 오늘날과 같나이다.

7 Since the days of our fathers have we been in a great trespass unto this day; and for our iniquities have we, our kings, and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to a spoil, and to confusion of face, as it is this day.

8 그런즉 이제 주 우리 하나님께로부터 잠깐 동안 은혜가 제시된 것은 저희에게 남은 자를 남겨 두시어 벗어나게 하려 하심이요, 그분의 거룩한 처소 안에서 저희에게 못을 주려 하심이니, 이는 우리 하나님께서 저희의 눈을 밝히시고 저희의 노예 생활 가운데서 저희에게 약간의 활기를 되찾아 주려 하심이니이다.

8 And now for a little space grace hath been shewed from the LORD our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a nail in his holy place, that our God may lighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our bondage.

9 이는 저희가 노예들이었기 때문이니이다. 그럼에도 우리 하나님께서 저희의 노예 생활에서 저희를 저버리지 아니하셨고 오히려 페르시아 왕들의 목전에서 저희에게 자비를 연장시켜 주셨나니, 저희에게 활기를 되찾아 주시려 함이요, 우리 하나님의 집을 세우시려 함이요, 그곳의 황량함들을 보수하게 하시려 함이요, 유다와 예루살렘에서 저희에게 성벽을 주시려 함이니이다.

9 For we were bondmen; yet our God hath not forsaken us in our bondage, but hath extended mercy unto us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to set up the house of our God, and to repair the desolations thereof, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem.

10 그런즉 이제, 오, 우리 하나님이여, 이것이 있은 후에 저희가 무슨 말을 하리이까? 이는 저희가 당신의 명령들을 저버렸기 때문이오니,

10 And now, O our God, what shall we say after this? for we have forsaken thy commandments,

11 그 명령들은 당신께서 예언자들인 당신의 종들을 통하여 명령하며 이같이 말씀하신 것이니이다. ‘그 지역, 곧 너희가 차지하러 가는 그곳은 그 지역들의 백성의 추악함과 그들의 가증함들이 있는 불결한 지역이니, 그들은 그곳을 한쪽 끝에서 다른 쪽 끝까지 그들의 불결함으로 채웠도다.

11 Which thou hast commanded by thy servants the prophets, saying, The land, unto which ye go to possess it, is an unclean land with the filthiness of the people of the lands, with their abominations, which have filled it from one end to another with their uncleanness.

12 그러므로 이제 너희의 딸들을 그들의 아들들에게 주지 말고, 그들의 딸들을 너희의 아들들에게로 데려오지도 말며, 영원토록 그들의 화평이나 그들의 번성을 구하지도 말라. 이는 너희가 강건하고 그 지역의 좋은 것을 먹으며 그곳을 너희 자녀들에게 영원토록 유산으로 남기게 하려 함이라.’

12 Now therefore give not your daughters unto their sons, neither take their daughters unto your sons, nor seek their peace or their wealth for ever: that ye may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children for ever.

13 그런즉 저희의 악한 행실들로 인하여, 또 저희의 크나큰 범법으로 인하여 이 모든 것이 저희 위에 임한 뒤에, 우리의 하나님이신 당신께서 저희가 받아 마땅한 저희의 죄악들보다 저희에게 적은 형벌을 내리셨고 저희에게 이와 같은 구출을 주셨거늘,

13 And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that thou our God hast punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and hast given us such deliverance as this;

14 저희가 다시 당신의 명령들을 어기고 이 가증함들에 속한 백성들과 인척 관계로 연합해야겠나이까? 당신께서 저희를 진멸시키시어 남은 자나 빠져나오는 일이 전혀 없을 때까지 당신께서는 저희에게 분노하지 아니하시겠나이까?

14 Should we again break thy commandments, and join in affinity with the people of these abominations? wouldest not thou be angry with us till thou hadst consumed us, so that there should be no remnant nor escaping?

15 오, 이스라엘의 주 하나님이여, 당신께서는 의로우시나이다. 이는 저희가 빠져나와 여전히 남아 있는 것이 오늘날과 같기 때문이니이다. 보소서, 저희가 저희의 범법들 가운데서 당신 앞에 있나이다. 이는 저희가 이것 때문에 당신 앞에 설 수 없기 때문이니이다.”

15 O LORD God of Israel, thou art righteous: for we remain yet escaped, as it is this day: behold, we are before thee in our trespasses: for we cannot stand before thee because of this.
