1 다시금 주의 말씀이 나에게 임하였으니, 이같이 말씀하셨느니라.
1 The word of the LORD came unto me again, saying,
2 “너희가 이스라엘 지역에 관하여 이 속담을 사용하며 말하기를, ‘아버지들이 신 포도들을 먹었더니, 자녀들의 이가 시큰거린다.’ 하니, 너희가 뜻하는 바가 무엇이냐?
2 What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge?
3 내가 살아 있음을 두고 맹세하노니, 주 하나님이 말하노라. 더 이상 너희는 이스라엘에서 이 속담을 사용하는 경우가 없으리라.
3 As I live, saith the Lord GOD, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel.
4 보라, 모든 혼들은 나의 것이라. 아버지의 혼처럼 아들의 혼도 나의 것이라. 죄를 짓는 혼, 그것은 죽으리라.
4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
5 ¶ 그러나 만일 어떤 사람이 정의로워서 합법적이고 올바른 일을 행한 경우,
5 ¶ But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right,
6 그리하여 산들 위에서 먹지 아니하고, 이스라엘 집의 우상들에게로 자신의 두 눈을 들어 올리지도 아니하며, 자기 이웃의 아내를 더럽히지도 아니하고, 생리 중인 어떤 여자에게 접근하지도 아니하며,
6 And hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbour's wife, neither hath come near to a menstruous woman,
7 누구도 압제하지 아니하고 오히려 빚진 자에게 그의 담보물을 반환하며, 아무도 폭력을 써서 약탈하지 아니하고 배고픈 자에게 자기 빵을 주고, 벌거벗은 자를 의복으로 덮어 주는 경우,
7 And hath not oppressed any, but hath restored to the debtor his pledge, hath spoiled none by violence, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment;
8 곧, 이자를 받는 조건으로 내주지 아니하고, 어떤 증가액도 취하지 아니하며, 자기 손을 죄악에서 뒤로 물리고, 사람과 사람 사이에 진실한 재판을 집행하며,
8 He that hath not given forth upon usury, neither hath taken any increase, that hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity, hath executed true judgment between man and man,
9 나의 규례들 가운데 살아가고, 나의 공의로운 법규들을 지켜서 진실하게 처신한 자, 그는 정의로우니, 그는 반드시 살리라. 주 하나님이 말하노라.
9 Hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my judgments, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord GOD.
10 ¶ 만일 그가 아들을 낳았는데 그 아들이 강도이자 피를 흘리게 하는 자요, 이러한 것들 중 어느 것 하나 같은 짓을 하는 경우,
10 ¶ If he beget a son that is a robber, a shedder of blood, and that doeth the like to any one of these things,
11 그리하여 그 의무들은 어떤 것도 실행하지 아니하면서 오히려 산들 위에서 먹고, 자기 이웃의 아내를 더럽히기까지 하였으며,
11 And that doeth not any of those duties, but even hath eaten upon the mountains, and defiled his neighbour's wife,
12 가난하고 빈곤한 자를 압제하고, 폭력을 써서 약탈하며, 담보물을 반환하지 아니하고, 우상들에게로 자기 두 눈을 들어 올리며, 가증함을 저지르고,
12 Hath oppressed the poor and needy, hath spoiled by violence, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination,
13 이자를 받는 조건으로 내주고 증가액을 취한 경우, 그때는 그가 살겠느냐? 그는 살지 못하리라. 그가 이 모든 가증함들을 행하였도다. 그는 반드시 죽으리라. 그의 피가 그의 위에 있을지어다.
13 Hath given forth upon usury, and hath taken increase: shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.
14 ¶ 이제 보라, 만일 그가 아들을 낳았는데 그 아들이 자기 아버지가 행하여 온 그의 모든 죄들을 보고 숙고하여 그러한 부류와 비슷한 것을 하지 아니하면서
14 ¶ Now, lo, if he beget a son, that seeth all his father's sins which he hath done, and considereth, and doeth not such like,
15 산들 위에서 먹은 적이 없고, 이스라엘 집의 우상들에게로 자기 두 눈을 들어 올린 적도 없으며, 자기 이웃의 아내를 더럽힌 적이 없고,
15 That hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hath not defiled his neighbour's wife,
16 누구도 압제한 적이 없고, 담보물을 주지 아니한 적이 없으며, 폭력을 써서 약탈한 적이 없고, 오히려 배고픈 자에게 자기 빵을 나눠주었고, 벌거벗은 자를 의복으로 덮어주었으며,
16 Neither hath oppressed any, hath not withholden the pledge, neither hath spoiled by violence, but hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment,
17 가난한 자에게 자기 손을 떼며 이자나 증가액도 받은 적이 없고, 나의 공의로운 법규들을 집행하였고, 나의 규례들 가운데 살아갔다면, 그는 자기 아버지의 죄악으로 죽지 아니하리니, 그가 반드시 살리라.
17 That hath taken off his hand from the poor, that hath not received usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.
18 그의 아버지로 말하자면, 그는 잔인하게 압제하였고 자기 형제를 폭력을 써서 약탈하였으며 자기 백성 가운데서 선하지 아니한 일을 행하였으니, 보라, 바로 그는 자기 죄악 가운데서 죽으리라.
18 As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, spoiled his brother by violence, and did that which is not good among his people, lo, even he shall die in his iniquity.
19 ¶ 그럼에도 너희는 말하기를, ‘이유가 무엇이냐? 아들이 아버지의 죄악을 짊어지지 아니하냐?’ 하는도다. 아들이 합법적이고 올바른 일을 행하였고, 나의 규례들을 모두 지켰으며, 그것들을 행하였을 때 그는 반드시 살리라.
19 ¶ Yet say ye, Why? doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live.
20 죄를 짓는 그 혼, 그것이 죽으리라. 아들이 아버지의 죄악을 짊어지지 아니할 것이요, 아버지가 아들의 죄악을 짊어지지도 아니하리라. 의로운 자의 의가 그의 위에 있을 것이요, 사악한 자의 사악함이 그의 위에 있으리라.
20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
21 그러나 만일 사악한 자가 자신이 저지른 자신의 모든 죄들에서 돌이키고 나의 규례들을 모두 지키며 합법적이고 올바른 일을 행하는 경우, 그는 반드시 살리니, 그는 죽지 아니하리라.
21 But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
22 그가 저지른 그의 모든 불법들, 그것들은 그에게 언급되지 아니하리라. 그는 자신이 행한 자기 의 가운데서 살리라.
22 All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.
23 내가 사악한 자가 죽어야 하는 것을 조금이라도 기뻐하랴? 주 하나님이 말하노라. 그리고 그가 자기 길들에서 돌이켜서 사는 것을 기뻐하지 아니하랴?
23 Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?
24 ¶ 그러나 의로운 자가 자기 의에서 돌이켜서 죄악을 저지르고 사악한 사람이 행하는 모든 가증함들에 따라 행할 때 그가 살겠느냐? 그가 행한 그의 모든 의가 언급되지 아니하리라. 그는 자신이 범법한 자기 범법과, 자신이 지은 자기 죄 가운데서, 바로 그것들 가운데서 그가 죽으리라.
24 ¶ But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.
25 ¶ 그럼에도 너희는 말하기를, ‘주의 길이 공평하지 아니하도다.’ 하는도다. 오, 이스라엘 집아, 이제 들으라. 나의 길이 공평하지 아니한 것이냐? 너희 길들이 불공평한 것이 아니냐?
25 ¶ Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?
26 의로운 사람이 자기 의에서 돌이켜서 죄악을 저지르고 그것들 가운데서 죽을 때, 그는 자신이 행한 자기 죄악으로 인하여 죽으리라.
26 When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.
27 또 한편, 사악한 사람이 자신이 행한 자기 사악함에서 돌이켜서 합법적이고 올바른 일을 행할 때 그는 자기 혼을 살려 두리라.
27 Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.
28 그가 숙고하고, 자신이 저질렀던 모든 자기 불법들에서 돌이켜 떠난 까닭에 그는 반드시 살리니, 그가 죽지 아니하리라.
28 Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
29 그럼에도 이스라엘 집은 말하기를, ‘주의 길이 공평하지 아니하도다.’ 하는도다. 오, 이스라엘 집아, 나의 길들이 공평하지 아니한 것이냐? 너희 길들이 불공평한 것이 아니냐?
29 Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal?
30 오, 이스라엘 집아, 그러므로 내가 너희를 심판하되, 모두 저마다 자기 길들에 따라 심판하겠노라. 주 하나님이 말하노라. 회개하라. 그리고 너희의 모든 불법들로부터 스스로 돌이키라. 그리하면 죄악이 너희를 몰락하게 하지 아니하리라.
30 Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.
31 ¶ 너희가 그것으로 불법을 행한, 너희의 모든 불법들을 너희에게서 던져 버리라. 그리하여 너희에게 새로운 마음과 새로운 영을 조성하라. 오, 이스라엘 집아, 그런즉 어찌하여 너희가 죽으려고 하느냐?
31 ¶ Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?
32 이는 내가 죽는 자의 죽음을 기뻐하지 아니하기 때문이라. 주 하나님이 말하노라. 이러한 이유로 너희 스스로 돌이켜서 너희는 살라.
32 For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.
