1 그리고 웃지야의 자손이자 요담의 자손인, 유다 왕 아하즈의 날들에 이러한 일이 있었으니, 시리아 왕 르진과, 이스라엘 왕이자 르말리야의 아들 페카가 예루살렘을 대적하여 전쟁하려고 그곳을 향해 올라왔더라. 그러나 그곳을 대적하여 승리할 수 없었더라.

And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem to war against it, but could not prevail against it.

2 그리고 그것이 다윗의 집에 이와 같은 말로 알려지기를, “시리아가 에프라임과 동맹을 맺었도다.” 하였더라. 그러자 그의 마음이 동요하였고, 그의 백성의 마음도 그러하였으니, 삼림의 나무들이 바람에 동요하듯 하였더라.

And it was told the house of David, saying, Syria is confederate with Ephraim. And his heart was moved, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the wood are moved with the wind.

3 그때 주께서 이사야에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “이제 너와 너의 아들 셰알야슙은 세탁공의 밭의 대로에 있는 윗못의 배수구 끝으로 나가서 아하즈를 만나라.

Then said the LORD unto Isaiah, Go forth now to meet Ahaz, thou, and Shearjashub thy son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller's field;

4 그리고 그에게 이렇게 말하라. ‘주의하고 조용히 하라. 이 연기 나고 불붙은 두 나뭇조각 꽁지들로 인하여, 곧 시리아와 함께한 르진과, 르말리야의 아들의 맹렬한 분노로 인하여 두려워하지 말고 낙담한 마음이 되지도 말라.

And say unto him, Take heed, and be quiet; fear not, neither be fainthearted for the two tails of these smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin with Syria, and of the son of Remaliah.

5 이는 시리아와, 에프라임과, 르말리야의 아들이 너를 대적하여 악한 책략을 쓰며 말하기를,

Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have taken evil counsel against thee, saying,

6 ‘우리가 유다를 대적하여 올라가서 그것을 핍박하자. 또 우리가 우리를 위하여 그곳을 부수고 그곳 한가운데에 왕을 세우되 바로 타브알의 아들을 세우자.’ 하였기 때문이라.

Let us go up against Judah, and vex it, and let us make a breach therein for us, and set a king in the midst of it, even the son of Tabeal:

7 주 하나님이 이같이 말하노라. 그 일은 성립되지 못할 것이요, 그 일은 이루어지지도 아니하리라.

Thus saith the Lord GOD, It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass.

8 이는 시리아의 머리가 다마스쿠스요, 다마스쿠스의 머리가 르진이요, 육십오 년 안에 에프라임은 깨져서 그것이 한 백성도 이루지 못할 것이기 때문이라.

For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and within threescore and five years shall Ephraim be broken, that it be not a people.

9 또 에프라임의 머리는 사마리아요, 사마리아의 머리는 르말리야의 아들이라. 만일 너희가 믿지 않으려 한다면 반드시 너희는 확고히 세워지지 못하리라.’”

And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah's son. If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established.

10 ¶ 이와 더불어 주께서 아하즈에게 다시금 이같이 일러 말씀하셨느니라.

¶ Moreover the LORD spake again unto Ahaz, saying,

11 “너는 주 너의 하나님께 표적을 구하라. 깊은 곳에서든지 위로 높은 곳에서든지 표적을 구하라.”

Ask thee a sign of the LORD thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.

12 그러나 아하즈가 말씀드리기를, “저는 구하지 아니하겠으며, 저는 주를 시험하지도 아니하겠나이다.” 하였더라.

But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the LORD.

13 그러자 그가 이같이 말하였더라. “오, 다윗의 집아, 이제 너희는 들으라. 사람들을 지치게 하는 것이 너희에게는 작은 것이기에 하물며 너희가 나의 하나님도 지치게 하려느냐?

And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also?

14 그러므로 주께서 친히 너희에게 표적을 주시리라. 보라, 한 처녀가 잉태하여 한 아들을 낳으리니, 그의 이름이 임마누엘이라 불리리라.

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

15 그가 버터와 꿀을 먹을 것이니, 이로써 그가 악을 거부하고 선을 선택하는 것을 알게 되리라.

Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.

16 이는 그 아이가 악을 거부하고 선을 선택하는 것을 알기 전에, 네가 혐오하는 그 지역이 그녀의 두 왕들 모두에게서 버림받을 것이기 때문이라.”

For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings.

17주께서 에프라임이 유다를 떠난 그날부터 아직 오지 아니한 날들을 너의 위와 너의 백성의 위와 너의 아버지의 집 위에 가져오시리니, 곧 아시리아 왕이 오는 날들이라.

¶ The LORD shall bring upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon thy father's house, days that have not come, from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah; even the king of Assyria.

18 또한 그날에 이러한 일이 있으리니, 주께서 이집트 강들의 맨 끝부분에 있는 파리와 아시리아 지역에 있는 벌을 위하여 쉭쉭 소리를 내어 부르시리라.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall hiss for the fly that is in the uttermost part of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria.

19 그리하면 그것들이 올 것이요, 그것들 모두가 황량한 골짜기들 안과, 바위굴들 안과, 모든 가시나무들 위와, 모든 떨기나무들 위에서 쉬리라.

And they shall come, and shall rest all of them in the desolate valleys, and in the holes of the rocks, and upon all thorns, and upon all bushes.

20 바로 그날에는 주께서 값을 주고 빌린 면도칼로 머리와 발들의 털을 밀어 버리시리니, 다시 말해서 강 너머에 있는 자들을 통하여, 또 아시리아 왕을 통하여 그리하시리라. 그리고 그것이 수염도 없애버리리라.

In the same day shall the Lord shave with a razor that is hired, namely, by them beyond the river, by the king of Assyria, the head, and the hair of the feet: and it shall also consume the beard.

21 그리고 그날에 이러한 일이 있으리니, 한 사람이 어린 암소 한 마리와 양들 두 마리를 기르리라.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that a man shall nourish a young cow, and two sheep;

22 그리고 이러한 일이 있으리니, 그것들이 내어 준 젖의 풍부함으로 인하여 그가 버터를 먹으리라. 이는 그 지역에 남겨진 모든 자마다 버터와 꿀을 먹을 것이기 때문이라.

And it shall come to pass, for the abundance of milk that they shall give he shall eat butter: for butter and honey shall every one eat that is left in the land.

23 그리고 그날에 이러한 일이 있으리니, 은전 일천 개에 해당하는 일천 그루의 포도나무들이 있었던 모든 장소마다 찔레들과 가시나무들을 위한 곳이 되리라.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that every place shall be, where there were a thousand vines at a thousand silverlings, it shall even be for briers and thorns.

24 사람들은 화살들과 활들을 가지고 거기로 오리라. 이는 온 지역이 찔레들과 가시나무들로 변할 것이기 때문이라.

With arrows and with bows shall men come thither; because all the land shall become briers and thorns.

25 그런데 곡괭이로 일구어질 모든 언덕들 위에는 찔레들과 가시나무들에 대한 두려움이 거기로 임하지 아니하리라. 다만 그곳은 소들을 풀어 놓는 곳과, 더 작은 가축들이 밟는 곳이 되리라.

And on all hills that shall be digged with the mattock, there shall not come thither the fear of briers and thorns: but it shall be for the sending forth of oxen, and for the treading of lesser cattle.
