1 그렇다 할지라도 그 어둑함은 그녀가 핍박 속에 있었던 것과 같지는 아니하리니, 곧 처음 그분께서 스불룬 지역과 납탈리 지역을 가볍게 괴롭히셨다가 그 이후에는 요르단 너머 민족들의 갈릴리에서 바닷길 옆에 있는 그녀를 더욱 가혹하게 괴롭히셨을 때라.
1 Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations.
2 어둠 가운데 살아갔던 백성이 커다란 빛을 보았도다. 사망의 그림자의 지역에 거하는 자들, 그들 위에 빛이 비치었도다.
2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
3 당신께서 그 민족을 번성하게 하시면서도 즐거움을 늘리지는 아니하셨나이다. 그들이 당신 앞에서 즐거워하나니, 수확 때의 즐거움에 따른 것이요, 사람들이 약탈물을 나눌 때 그들이 크게 기뻐하는 것과 같나이다.
3 Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.
4 이는 당신께서 미디안의 날에서와 같이, 그의 짐의 멍에와, 그의 어깨의 지팡이와 그의 압제자의 막대기를 꺾으셨기 때문이니이다.
4 For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.
5 이는 용자의 모든 전투가 저마다 혼란스러운 소음과, 핏속에서 굴려진 의복들이 함께 있기 때문이니이다. 그러나 이 전투는 불타는 것과 불의 연료가 함께 있으리라.
5 For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.
6 이는 저희에게 한 아이가 태어나고, 저희에게 한 아들이 주어지기 때문이니이다. 그런즉 정권이 그분의 어깨 위에 있을 것이요, 그분의 이름은 경이로우신 분이라, 조언자라, 막강하신 하나님이라, 영원하신 아버지라, 화평의 통치자라 불리리이다.
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
7 그분의 정권과 화평의 증가함은 다윗의 보좌 위와 그의 왕국 위에 끝이 없으리니, 그것을 정비하시어 이후부터 영원에 이르기까지 공의와 정의로 그것을 확고히 세우려 하심이니이다. 만군의 주의 열심이 이것을 완수하시리이다.
7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
8 ¶ 주가 야곱에게 말씀을 보냈으니, 그것이 이스라엘 위에 임하였도다.
8 ¶ The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel.
9 그리하여 모든 백성, 심지어 에프라임과, 사마리아의 거주자조차 알게 되더라도, 그들은 교만과 마음의 완강함으로 말하기를,
9 And all the people shall know, even Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria, that say in the pride and stoutness of heart,
10 “벽돌들이 무너져 내렸으나 우리는 다듬어진 돌들로 쌓겠노라. 돌무화과나무들이 베여 쓰러졌으나 우리는 그것들을 백향목들로 바꾸겠노라.” 하는 자들이라.
10 The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with hewn stones: the sycomores are cut down, but we will change them into cedars.
11 그러므로 주가 그를 대적하여 르진의 대적들을 일으키시고 그의 원수들을 함께 연합시키리라.
11 Therefore the LORD shall set up the adversaries of Rezin against him, and join his enemies together;
12 앞에는 시리아인들이요, 뒤로는 필리스티아인들이라. 그리고 그들이 입을 벌려 이스라엘을 집어삼키리라. 이 모든 것으로도 그의 분노가 돌이켜지지 아니하고 오히려 그의 손이 계속 뻗어 있도다.
12 The Syrians before, and the Philistines behind; and they shall devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
13 ¶ 이는 백성이 그들을 치는 이에게 돌이키지 아니하며, 그들이 만군의 주를 찾지도 아니하기 때문이라.
13 ¶ For the people turneth not unto him that smiteth them, neither do they seek the LORD of hosts.
14 그러므로 주가 하루 만에 이스라엘에서 머리와 꼬리, 가지와 골풀을 끊으리라.
14 Therefore the LORD will cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and rush, in one day.
15 원로이고 존귀한 자, 그가 그 머리요, 거짓말들을 가르치는 예언자, 그가 그 꼬리니라.
15 The ancient and honourable, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail.
16 이는 이 백성의 지도자들이 그들로 하여금 잘못을 범하게 하기 때문이라. 그런즉 그들에게서 인도를 받는 자들은 멸망하는도다.
16 For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.
17 그러므로 주는 그들의 청년들을 즐거워하지 아니할 것이요, 그들의 아버지 없는 자들과 과부들에게도 자비를 베풀지 아니하리라. 이는 모든 이마다 위선자이자 행악자이며, 모든 입마다 우둔함을 내뱉기 때문이라. 이 모든 것으로도 그의 분노가 돌이켜지지 아니하고 오히려 그의 손이 계속 뻗어 있도다.
17 Therefore the Lord shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless and widows: for every one is an hypocrite and an evildoer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
18 ¶ 이는 사악함이 불같이 타기 때문이라. 그것이 찔레들과 가시나무들을 집어삼킬 것이요, 숲의 무성한 잡목들 안에서 타오르리니, 그것들이 연기의 피어오름처럼 위로 올라가리라.
18 ¶ For wickedness burneth as the fire: it shall devour the briers and thorns, and shall kindle in the thickets of the forest, and they shall mount up like the lifting up of smoke.
19 만군의 주의 진노를 통하여 그 지역이 어두워지고, 백성이 불의 연료같이 되리니, 아무도 자기 형제를 아끼지 아니하리라.
19 Through the wrath of the LORD of hosts is the land darkened, and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire: no man shall spare his brother.
20 그리고 그가 오른손에 움켜도 배고플 것이요, 그가 왼손으로 먹어도 그들이 만족하지 아니하리라. 그들 각인이 모두 자기 자신의 팔의 살을 먹으리라.
20 And he shall snatch on the right hand, and be hungry; and he shall eat on the left hand, and they shall not be satisfied: they shall eat every man the flesh of his own arm:
21 므낫세는 에프라임을, 에프라임은 므낫세를 먹으리라. 또 그들은 함께 유다를 대적하리라. 이 모든 것으로도 그의 분노가 돌이켜지지 아니하고 오히려 그의 손이 계속 뻗어 있도다.
21 Manasseh, Ephraim; and Ephraim, Manasseh: and they together shall be against Judah. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
