베드로전서 3장

1 마찬가지로 너희, 아내들아, 너희 자신의 남편들에게 복종하라. 만일 누군가 말씀에 순종하지 아니한다 해도, 아내들의 생활 방식을 통하여 말없이 그들 또한 쟁취되도록 하려는 것이니,

1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;

2 그들이 두려움과 결부된 너희의 순결한 생활 방식을 보는 동안 그리되리라.

2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.

3 너희의 단장이 머리를 땋는 것과 금을 착용하는 것이나 차려입은 복장에서 비롯된 외적인 단장이 되지 않도록 하라.

3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

4 다만 마음의 숨겨진 사람으로 하여금 너희의 단장이 되게 하되, 썩을 수 없는 것, 곧 온유하고 조용한 영의 장식으로 하게 하라. 하나님의 목전에서 그것은 대단히 값진 것이라.

4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

5 이는 이런 생활 양식을 따라 옛적에 하나님을 신뢰하던 거룩한 여인들도 자기 자신의 남편들에게 복종함으로써 스스로를 단장하였기 때문이라.

5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:

6 바로 사-라가 아브라함을 주라 부르며 그에게 순종하였던 것과 같으니라. 너희가 바르게 행하고 어떤 놀라움에도 무서워하지 않는 한 너희는 그녀의 딸들이라.

6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.

7 마찬가지로 너희, 남편들아, 아내를 더 연약한 그릇으로서 그리고 생명의 은혜를 함께 상속받는 자들로서 존귀하게 여기며 지식을 따라 그들과 동거하라. 이는 너희의 기도들이 가로막히지 않게 하려 함이라.

7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

8 마지막으로 서로에게 연민을 가지며 너희 모두 한 생각을 가지라. 형제들로서 사랑하라. 불쌍히 여기라. 정중하라.

8 Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:

9 악을 악으로 또는 욕설을 욕설로 돌려주지 말라. 오히려 반대로 축복하라. 너희가 복으로 부르심을 받았음을 아나니, 너희가 복을 상속받게 하려 함이라.

9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.

10 그러므로 생명을 사랑하고 좋은 날들을 볼 자는 그로 하여금 악으로부터 자기 혀를 자제하게 하고 자기 입술을 자제하여 그것들이 전혀 간교한 속임수를 이야기하지 못하게 하라.

10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:

11 그로 하여금 악을 기피하고 선을 행하게 하며 그가 화평을 추구하고 그것을 뒤따르게 하라.

11 Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.

12 이는 주의 눈들이 의로운 자들 위에 있으시며 그분의 두 귀가 그들의 기도들에 열려 있으시기 때문이라. 그러나 주의 얼굴은 악을 행하는 자들을 대적하느니라.

12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.

13 그런즉 만일 너희가 선한 것을 따르는 자들이 된다면 너희에게 해를 입힐 자가 누구냐?

13 And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?

14 그런즉 오히려 너희가 의를 위하여 고통을 받는다면 너희는 행복하니라. 또한 그들이 공포스럽게 하는 것을 무서워하지 말고 불안해하지도 말라.

14 But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;

15 그러나 너희 마음속에 주 하나님을 거룩하게 구별하라. 그리고 너희 안에 있는 소망의 이유를 너희에게 묻는 모든 사람에게 각각 대답을 줄 수 있도록 온유함과 두려움으로 항상 준비하라.

15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

16 선한 양심을 가질지니, 그들이 너희에 대하여 행악자들에게 하듯이 악담하다가도 그들이 그리스도 안에 있는 너희의 선한 생활 방식을 거짓되이 고소하는 것을 부끄러워하게 하려 함이라.

16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.

17 만일 하나님의 뜻이 그러하다면, 너희가 악하게 행하는 것으로 고통받는 것보다는 바르게 행하는 것으로 고통받는 것이 낫기 때문이라.

17 For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.

18 이는 그리스도께서도 죄들로 인하여 한 번 수난을 겪으사 정의로우신 분이 부정한 자들을 대신하셨기 때문이니, 육체로는 죽임을 당하셨으나 성령에 의하여 되살아나게 되심으로써 그분께서 우리를 하나님께로 인도하려 하심이라.

18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

19 그 성령에 의하여 또한 그분께서는 감옥 안에 있는 영들에게 가서 선포하셨느니라.

19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

20 그들은 한때 불순종한 자들이었으니, 방주가 예비되던 동안 하나님께서 노아의 날들에 오래 참으심으로 한 번 기다려 주셨을 때라. 그 방주 안에서 소수인 여덟 명의 혼들이 물을 통하여 구원받았느니라.

20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

21 바로 침례가 지금도 예수 그리스도의 부활에 의하여 우리를 구원하는 동일한 모형이라. (이는 육체의 더러움을 제거해 버리는 것이 아니라 다만 하나님을 향한 선한 양심의 응답이라.)

21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

22 그분께서는 하늘 속으로 들어가셨고 하나님의 오른편에 계시니, 천사들과 권위들과 권능들이 그분께 복종하게 되느니라.

22 Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.
