디모데전서 3장

1 만일 어떤 남자가 감독직을 사모한다면 그가 선한 일을 사모한다고 한 이 말은 참되니라.

1 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.

2 그런즉 감독은 비난받을 일이 없어야 하고, 한 아내의 남편이어야 하며, 깨어 있고, 냉철하며, 품행이 선하고, 환대하는 일에 자신을 내주며, 가르치는 데 능하고,

2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

3 술에 자신을 내주지 않으며, 구타하는 자가 아니고, 더러운 이익을 탐내지 않으며, 오직 인내하고, 언쟁하는 자가 아니며, 탐욕스럽지 않고,

3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

4 자신의 자녀들을 모든 위엄으로 복종하게 하여 자기 자신의 집을 잘 다스리는 자라야 하느니라.

4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;

5 (그런즉 만일 남자가 자기 자신의 집을 다스리는 법을 모른다면 그가 어떻게 하나님의 교회를 돌보겠느냐?)

5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

6 초신자도 아니 되나니, 그가 교만으로 높아져서 마귀의 정죄 속에 빠지지 않게 하려 함이라.

6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

7 이뿐만 아니라 그는 외부인들에게서도 좋은 평판을 받아야 하느니라. 이는 그가 비방과 마귀의 올무에 빠지지 않게 하려 함이라.

7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

8 이와 같이 집사들도 진중하고, 한 입으로 두 말하지 않으며, 많은 술에 자신을 내주지 않고, 더러운 이익을 탐내지 않으며,

8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;

9 순수한 양심 안에서 믿음의 신비를 붙들어야 하느니라.

9 Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.

10 그리고 이들 역시 먼저 입증받게 하라. 그다음에 그들이 비난받을 일이 없이 발견되면 집사직을 수행하게 하라.

10 And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.

11 바로 이처럼 그들의 아내들도 진중하고, 중상하는 자가 아니며, 냉철하고, 모든 일들에 신실해야 하느니라.

11 Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.

12 집사들은 한 아내의 남편들로서 그들의 자녀들과 그들 자신들의 집들을 잘 다스릴지어다.

12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

13 이는 집사직을 수행한 자들은 스스로에게 좋은 지위와 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 믿음 안에서 큰 담대함을 값을 치르고 얻느니라.

13 For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

14 너에게 속히 가기를 소망하면서 내가 너에게 이런 것들을 기록하노라.

14 These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly:

15 다만 내가 오래 지체한다면 이는 네가 하나님의 집에서 스스로 어떻게 처신해야 마땅한지 너로 하여금 알게 하려 함이라. 이 집은 살아 계신 하나님의 교회이자 진리의 기둥과 터전이라.

15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

16 또한 경건의 신비는 논란의 여지없이 위대하도다. 하나님께서는 육체로 명백하게 나타나셨고, 성령 안에서 정당함을 입증받으셨으며, 천사들에게 보이셨고, 이방인들에게 선포되셨으며, 세상 속에서 믿어지셨고, 영광 속으로 들리어 영접받으셨도다.

16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
