요한복음 4장

1 그러므로 예수님께서 요한보다 제자들을 더 많이 삼으며 그들에게 침례를 주셨다고 바리새파 사람들이 들은 것을 주께서 아셨을 때,

1 When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,

2 (비록 예수님께서 친히 침례를 주신 것이 아니요, 다만 그분의 제자들이 준 것이지만,)

2 (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)

3 그분께서 유대를 떠나 다시금 갈릴리로 출발하셨더라.

3 He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee.

4 그런데 그분께서 반드시 사마리아를 가로질러 가야 할 필요가 있으셨더라.

4 And he must needs go through Samaria.

5 그때 그분께서는 사마리아에서 수칼이라 불리는 도시에 도착하시니, 야곱이 자기 아들 요셉에게 준 한 필지의 경지에서 가깝더라.

5 Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.

6 이때 야곱의 우물이 거기 있었더라. 그러므로 자신의 여정으로 지치신 예수님께서는 우물 위에 그대로 걸터앉으셨으니, 그때가 제육시경이었더라.

6 Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.

7 어떤 사마리아 여자가 물을 길으러 오는데 예수님께서 그녀에게 말씀하시기를, “나에게 마실 물을 달라.” 하시니라.

7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.

8 (이는 그분의 제자들이 음식을 사기 위해 도시로 나갔기 때문이라.)

8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)

9 그때 그 사마리아 여자가 그분께 말씀드리기를, “유대인인 당신께서 사마리아 여자인 제게 마실 것을 구하시니, 어찌 된 일이니이까?” 하니라. 이는 유대인들은 사마리아인들을 전혀 상대하지 아니하기 때문이라.

9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.

10 예수님께서 그녀에게 대답하여 말씀하시기를, “만일 네가 하나님의 선물을 알았다면, 또 너에게 ‘마실 것을 달라.’라고 말하는 이가 누구인지 알았다면, 너는 그에게 구하였을 것이요, 그는 너에게 살아 있는 물을 주었으리라.” 하셨느니라.

10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

11 그 여자가 그분께 이같이 말씀드리니라. “선생님, 당신께서 물을 길을 수 있는 것이 아무것도 없고 이 우물은 깊은데 그렇다면 당신께서 어디로부터 그 살아 있는 물을 얻으시나이까?

11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?

12 우리의 조상 야곱이 우리에게 그 우물을 주었고 거기서 자신과 자신의 자식들과 자신의 가축들도 마셨는데 당신께서 우리의 조상 야곱보다 더 위대하시나이까?”

12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?

13 예수님께서 그녀에게 대답하여 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “누구든지 이 물을 마시는 자는 다시 목마르리라.

13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:

14 그러나 누구든지 내가 줄 물을 마시는 자는 결코 목마르지 아니하리라. 오히려 내가 그에게 줄 물은 그 안에서 영원한 생명으로 솟아오르는 샘물이 되리라.”

14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

15 그 여자가 그분께 말씀드리기를, “선생님, 제가 목마르지 않도록 그리고 여기로 물을 길으러 오지도 않도록 제게 이 물을 주소서.” 하니라.

15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.

16 예수님께서 그녀에게 말씀하시기를, “가서 너의 남편을 부르고 이리로 오라.” 하시니라.

16 Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.

17 그 여자가 대답하여 말씀드리기를, “저에게는 남편이 없나이다.” 하였더라. 예수님께서 그녀에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “네가 ‘저에게는 남편이 없나이다.’라고 잘 말하였도다.

17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:

18 이는 네가 다섯 남편이 있었으며 지금 너에게 있는 자도 너의 남편이 아니기 때문이라. 그 점에 있어서 네가 참되이 말하였도다.”

18 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.

19 그 여자가 그분께 이같이 말씀드리니라. “선생님, 저는 당신께서 예언자이심을 알겠나이다.

19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.

20 우리의 조상들은 이 산에서 경배하였나이다. 그런데 당신들은 사람들이 마땅히 경배해야 하는 장소가 예루살렘에 있다고 하나이다.”

20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.

21 예수님께서 그녀에게 이같이 말씀하시니라. “여자여, 나를 믿으라. 이 산도 아니요, 또 예루살렘도 아닌 곳에서 너희가 아버지께 경배할 그 시각이 오느니라.

21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.

22 너희는 너희가 모르는 것을 경배하는도다. 우리는 우리가 경배하는 것을 아노라. 이는 구원이 유대인들에게서 나오기 때문이라.

22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.

23 그러나 참된 경배자들이 영과 진리 안에서 아버지께 경배할 때인 그 시각이 오나니, 곧 지금이라. 이는 아버지께서 자신에게 경배하는 그러한 자들을 찾으시기 때문이라.

23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

24 하나님께서는 한 영이시니, 그분께 경배하는 자들은 반드시 영과 진리 안에서 그분께 경배해야 하느니라.”

24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

25 그 여자가 그분께 말씀드리기를, “그리스도라 불리시는 메시야가 오시는 것을 제가 아나이다. 그분께서 오시면 친히 모든 것들을 우리에게 알려 주실 것이니이다.” 하니라.

25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.

26 예수님께서 그녀에게 말씀하시기를, “너에게 말하고 있는 내가 그니라.” 하시니라.

26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.

27 ¶ 그리고 이때에 그분의 제자들이 도착하였으며 그분께서 그 여자와 대화하시는 것을 이상히 여겼더라. 그럼에도 “당신께서 무엇을 찾으시나이까?” 혹은 “어찌하여 당신께서 그녀와 대화하시나이까?” 하고 말한 자가 아무도 없었더라.

27 ¶ And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?

28 그때 그 여자가 자신의 물 항아리를 남겨 두고 도시 안으로 자신의 길을 갔더라. 그리고 사람들에게 이같이 말하니라.

28 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,

29 “와서 내가 이제껏 행했던 모든 것들을 나에게 일러 주신 사람을 보라. 이분이 그리스도가 아니시냐?”

29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?

30 그때 그들이 도시에서 나와서 그분께 나아왔더라.

30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.

31 ¶ 그 사이에 그분의 제자들이 그분께 간구하며 말씀드리기를, “스승님, 드소서.” 하였더라.

31 ¶ In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.

32 그러나 그분께서 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “나에게는 너희가 모르는 먹을 음식이 있노라.” 하셨느니라.

32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.

33 그러므로 제자들이 서로 말하기를, “누가 그분께 드셔야 할 것을 가져다 드렸는가?” 하였더라.

33 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?

34 예수님께서 그들에게 이같이 말씀하시니라. “나의 음식은 나를 보내신 분의 뜻을 행하는 것이요, 그분의 일을 완성하는 것이라.

34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

35 너희가 말하기를, ‘아직 넉 달이 남아 있어서 그때 비로소 수확기가 오는도다.’ 하지 아니하느냐? 보라, 내가 너희에게 말하노니, ‘너희의 눈을 들어 밭들을 바라보라.’ 이는 그것들이 수확하도록 이미 하얗게 되었기 때문이라.

35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

36 그런즉 거두는 자는 품삯을 받고 영생에 이르는 열매를 모으나니, 뿌리는 자도 거두는 자도 함께 크게 기뻐하게 하려 함이라.

36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.

37 그런즉 ‘한 사람은 뿌리고, 또 한 사람은 거둔다.’라고 그처럼 말한 것이 이 점에서 참되니라.

37 And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.

38 나는 너희가 전혀 수고를 들이지 않은 것을 거두도록 너희를 보내었도다. 다른 사람들이 수고하였고 너희는 그들의 수고들에 참여하였노라.”

38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.

39 ¶ 그리고 그 도시의 사마리아인들 중 많은 이들이 “그분께서 이제껏 내가 행한 모든 것을 나에게 일러 주셨도다.”라고 증언한 그 여자가 한 말로 인하여 그분을 믿었더라.

39 ¶ And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.

40 그러한 이유로 사마리아인들이 그분께 나아왔을 때 그들은 그분께서 자신들과 함께 머무시기를 그분께 간청하였더라. 이에 그분께서 이틀을 거기에 거하셨더라.

40 So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.

41 그리고 그분 자신의 말씀으로 인하여 더 많은 이들이 믿었더라.

41 And many more believed because of his own word;

42 그러면서 그 여자에게 말하기를, “이제 우리가 믿노니, 네가 말한 것 때문이 아니라 우리가 그분의 말씀을 직접 들었고 이분께서 정녕 그리스도, 곧 세상의 구원자이심을 알았기 때문이라.” 하였더라.

42 And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.

43 ¶ 이제 이틀 뒤에 그분께서는 거기에서 출발하셔서 갈릴리로 들어가셨더라.

43 ¶ Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee.

44 이는 예수님께서 예언자는 자기 자신의 고향에서 전혀 존경받지 못한다고 친히 증언하셨기 때문이라.

44 For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.

45 그때 그분께서 갈릴리로 오시자 갈릴리인들은 그분께서 명절에 예루살렘에서 행하신 것들을 모두 보았기에 그분을 받아들였더라. 이는 그들도 명절에 갔기 때문이라.

45 Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.

46 그러한 이유로 예수님께서 다시 갈릴리의 카나로 들어오셨는데 그분께서 물을 포도즙으로 만드신 곳이었더라. 그리고 어떤 귀족인 남자 한 명이 있었는데 그의 아들이 가버나움에서 병들었더라.

46 So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.

47 그가 예수님께서 유대로부터 나와 갈릴리로 오셨다 함을 들었을 때, 그가 그분께로 갔더라. 그리고 그분께서 친히 내려오셔서 자신의 아들을 치유해 주시라고 그분께 간청하였더라. 이는 아들이 죽을 지경에 처해 있었기 때문이라.

47 When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.

48 그때 예수님께서 그에게 말씀하시기를, “너희는 너희가 표적들과 이적들을 보지 않으면 믿으려고 하지 아니하는도다.” 하셨느니라.

48 Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.

49 귀족인 그 남자가 그분께 말씀드리기를, “선생님, 제 아이가 죽기 전에 내려와 주소서.” 하니라.

49 The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.

50 예수님께서 그에게 말씀하시기를, “너의 길을 가라. 너의 아들이 살아 있느니라.” 하시니라. 그러자 그 남자가 예수님께서 자신에게 전하신 그 말씀을 믿었고 그가 자신의 길을 갔더라.

50 Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.

51 그리하여 그가 막 내려가고 있었는데 그의 종들이 그를 만났더라. 그러면서 그에게 이르며 말하기를, “당신의 아들이 살아 있나이다.” 하였더라.

51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth.

52 그때 그가 아들이 호전되기 시작한 시각을 그들에게 물어보았더라. 그러자 그들이 그에게 말하기를, “어제 제칠시에 그에게서 열병이 떠났나이다.” 하였더라.

52 Then enquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.

53 그렇기에 그 아버지는 그것이 예수님께서 자신에게 “너의 아들이 살아 있느니라.” 하고 말씀하신 바로 그 시각이었음을 알았더라. 그런즉 자신과 자신의 온 집이 믿었더라.

53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.

54 이것은 예수님께서 유대로부터 나와 갈릴리에 오셨을 때 그분께서 다시금 행하신 두 번째 기적이라.

54 This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee.
