1 그런 다음에 그들이 엘림에서 그들의 여정을 떠났으니, 그들이 이집트 지역에서 출발한 지 둘째 달 십오 일째 되는 날 이스라엘 자녀들의 온 회중이 엘림과 시나이산 사이에 있는 신 광야에 이르렀더라.

And they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came unto the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt.

2 그런데 이스라엘 자녀들의 온 회중이 광야 가운데서 모세와 아론을 대적하여 불평하였더라.

And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness:

3 그런즉 이스라엘 자녀들이 그들에게 말하기를, “이집트 지역 가운데서 우리가 고기 솥들 곁에 앉아 있었을 때, 또 우리가 빵을 실컷 먹었을 때 하나님께서 우리로 하여금 주의 손에 의하여 죽게 하셨더라면 좋았으리라. 이는 너희가 이 집회 전체를 배고픔으로 죽게 하려고 우리를 이 광야 가운데로 데리고 들어왔기 때문이라.” 하였더라.

And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.

4 ¶ 그때 주께서 모세에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “보라, 내가 너희를 위하여 하늘에서 빵을 비처럼 내리겠노라. 그리하면 백성이 나가서 매일 일정 비율을 거둘지니, 그들이 나의 법 가운데 살아가는지 아닌지 내가 그들을 확인해 보고자 함이라.

¶ Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.

5 그리고 이러한 일이 있으리니, 여섯째 날에 그들은 자신들이 안으로 가져오는 것을 예비해야 하리라. 그런즉 그것은 그들이 매일 거두는 양의 두 배가 되리라.”

And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.

6 그리하여 모세와 아론이 모든 이스라엘 자녀들에게 이같이 말하였더라. “저녁때 비로소 너희는 주께서 너희를 이집트 지역에서 데리고 나오신 것을 알리라.

And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At even, then ye shall know that the LORD hath brought you out from the land of Egypt:

7 그리고 아침에 비로소 너희가 주의 영광을 목격하리라. 이는 주를 대적하는 너희의 불평들을 그분께서 들으시기 때문이라. 그런즉 우리가 무엇이기에 너희는 우리를 대적하여 불평하느냐?”

And in the morning, then ye shall see the glory of the LORD; for that he heareth your murmurings against the LORD: and what are we, that ye murmur against us?

8 이어서 모세가 말하기를, “주께서 저녁에는 너희에게 고기를 먹으라고 주시고, 아침에는 너희를 빵으로 배부르게 하실 때 이러한 일이 일어나리라. 이는 너희가 그분을 대적하여 불평하는 너희의 불평들을 주께서 들으시기 때문이라. 그런즉 우리가 무엇이냐? 너희의 불평들은 우리를 대적하는 것이 아니요, 주를 대적하는 것이라.” 하였더라.

And Moses said, This shall be, when the LORD shall give you in the evening flesh to eat, and in the morning bread to the full; for that the LORD heareth your murmurings which ye murmur against him: and what are we? your murmurings are not against us, but against the LORD.

9 ¶ 그런 다음에 모세가 아론에게 이야기하였더라. “이스라엘 자녀들의 온 회중에게 말하기를, ‘주 앞에 가까이 오라. 이는 그분께서 너희의 불평들을 들으셨기 때문이라.’ 하라.”

¶ And Moses spake unto Aaron, Say unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, Come near before the LORD: for he hath heard your murmurings.

10 그러고 나서 아론이 이스라엘 자녀들의 온 회중에게 이야기하는 동안 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그들이 광야 쪽을 바라보았는데, 보라, 주의 영광이 구름 속에서 나타났더라.

And it came to pass, as Aaron spake unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.

11 ¶ 그러자 주께서 모세에게 이같이 일러 말씀하셨느니라.

¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

12 “내가 이스라엘 자녀들의 불평들을 들어 왔노라. 그들에게 일러 말하기를, ‘저녁때 너희는 고기를 먹을 것이요, 아침에 너희는 빵으로 채워지리라. 그리하면 너희는 내가 주 너희 하나님이라는 것을 알리라.’ 하라.”

I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God.

13 그러자 이러한 일이 있었으니, 저녁때에는 메추라기들이 올라와서 진영을 덮었고 아침에는 이슬이 군대 주위에 깔렸더라.

And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the morning the dew lay round about the host.

14 그리고 깔려 있던 이슬이 없어졌을 때, 보라, 광야의 표면 위에 어떤 작고 둥근 것이 깔려 있었는데 지면 위에 있는 흰 서리만큼 작았더라.

And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground.

15 그러자 이스라엘 자녀들이 그것을 보았을 때 그들이 서로 말하기를, “그것은 만나다.” 하였더라. 이는 그들이 그것이 무엇인지 몰랐기 때문이라. 그리하여 모세가 그들에게 이같이 말하였더라. “이것이 주께서 너희에게 먹으라고 주신 빵이라.

And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat.

16주께서 명령하신 것이 이러하니, ‘각인은 자신이 먹을 만큼, 곧 너희 개개인의 수대로 각인은 일 오멜씩 그것을 거둘지니라. 너희 각인은 자신의 천막들 안에 있는 자들을 위하여 취할지니라.’ 하셨느니라.”

¶ This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for every man, according to the number of your persons; take ye every man for them which are in his tents.

17 그러자 이스라엘 자녀들이 그렇게 하여 거두었더니, 일부는 더 거두었고, 일부는 덜 거두었더라.

And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less.

18 그러고 나서 그들이 그것을 한 오멜로 쟀을 때 많이 거둔 자도 초과된 것이 없었으며 조금 거둔 자도 모자란 것이 없었더라. 그들 각인이 자신이 먹을 만큼 거두었더라.

And when they did mete it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating.

19 그리고 모세가 말하기를, “아무도 그것을 아침까지 남겨 두지 말라.” 하였더라.

And Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning.

20 그럼에도 불구하고 그들이 모세에게 경청하지 아니하였더라. 오히려 그들 중 일부가 그것을 아침까지 남겼더니, 그것에서 벌레들이 번식하고 악취가 났더라. 이에 모세는 그들에게 격노하였더라.

Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them.

21 그리하여 그들이 그것을 매일 아침에 거두되 각인이 자신이 먹을 만큼 거두었으니, 해가 뜨거워지자 그것이 녹았더라.

And they gathered it every morning, every man according to his eating: and when the sun waxed hot, it melted.

22 ¶ 그리고 이러한 일이 있었으니, 여섯째 날에 그들은 한 사람당 두 배 분량인 이 오멜을 거두었더라. 그러고 나서 회중의 모든 치리자들이 모세에게 와서 알렸더라.

¶ And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.

23 그러자 모세가 그들에게 말하기를, “이것이 주께서 말씀하신 것이니, ‘내일은 주께 거룩한 안식일에 속한 안식이라. 오늘 너희가 구울 것을 굽고, 너희가 끓일 것을 끓이라. 그리고 그 이상 남는 것은 아침까지 간수되도록 너희들을 위하여 쌓아 놓으라.’ 하셨느니라.” 하였더라.

And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.

24 그리하여 그들이 모세가 명령한 대로 아침까지 그것을 쌓아 놓았으나 그것에서 악취가 나지 아니하였고 그 안에 어떤 벌레도 없었더라.

And they laid it up till the morning, as Moses bade: and it did not stink, neither was there any worm therein.

25 그리고 모세가 이같이 말하였더라. “오늘 그것을 먹으라. 이는 오늘이 주께 안식일이기 때문이라. 오늘은 너희가 들에서 그것을 발견하지 못하리라.

And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day is a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the field.

26 육 일 동안은 너희가 그것을 거둘 것이나 안식일인 일곱째 날, 그날에는 아무것도 없으리라.”

Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none.

27 ¶ 그런데 이러한 일이 있었으니, 일곱째 날에 백성 중 일부가 거두기 위하여 나갔다가 그들이 아무것도 발견하지 못하였더라.

¶ And it came to pass, that there went out some of the people on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none.

28 그러자 주께서 모세에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “언제까지 너희는 나의 명령들과 나의 법들을 지키는 것을 거부하느냐?

And the LORD said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?

29 이는 보라, 주가 너희에게 안식일을 주었기 때문이라. 그러므로 그가 여섯째 날에는 너희에게 이틀 분의 빵을 주노라. 너희 각인은 자기 처소 안에 거하여 일곱째 날에는 아무도 자기 처소에서 나오지 않게 하라.”

See, for that the LORD hath given you the sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.

30 그렇게 하여 백성이 일곱째 날에 안식하였더라.

So the people rested on the seventh day.

31 그리고 이스라엘 집이 그것의 이름을 만나라 불렀으니, 그것은 고수풀 씨같이 하얗고 그것의 맛은 꿀로 만들어진 전병들 같았더라.

And the house of Israel called the name thereof Manna: and it was like coriander seed, white; and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.

32 ¶ 그리고 모세가 말하기를, “이것은 주께서 명령하시는 것이라. ‘그것으로 일 오멜을 채워 너희의 세대들을 위하여 간직되게 할지니, 내가 너희를 이집트 지역에서 데리고 나왔을 때 내가 너희를 광야 가운데서 먹인 빵을 그들로 하여금 보게 하려 함이라.’” 하였더라.

¶ And Moses said, This is the thing which the LORD commandeth, Fill an omer of it to be kept for your generations; that they may see the bread wherewith I have fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt.

33 그러고 나서 모세가 아론에게 말하기를, “항아리 하나를 가져다가 그 안에 만나 일 오멜을 가득 넣으라. 그리고 그것을 주 앞에 올려놓고 너희의 세대들을 위해 간직되게 하라.” 하였더라.

And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a pot, and put an omer full of manna therein, and lay it up before the LORD, to be kept for your generations.

34 주께서 모세에게 명령하신 대로 아론이 그렇게 그것을 증언 판 앞에 올려놓고 간직되게 하였더라.

As the LORD commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept.

35 그리하여 이스라엘 자녀들이 사람들이 거주하게 된 지역에 이르기까지 그들은 사십 년 간 만나를 먹었으니, 곧 이스라엘 자녀들이 가나안 지역의 경계들에 이를 때까지 그들은 만나를 먹었더라.

And the children of Israel did eat manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited; they did eat manna, until they came unto the borders of the land of Canaan.

36 이제 일 오멜은 십분의 일 에파니라.

Now an omer is the tenth part of an ephah.
