1 주께로부터 예레미야에게 임한 말씀이니, 이같이 말씀하셨느니라.
1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
2 “너희는 이 언약의 말들을 듣고 유다 사람들과 예루살렘 거주자들에게 전하라.
2 Hear ye the words of this covenant, and speak unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem;
3 그런즉 너는 그들에게 이같이 말하라. 이스라엘의 주 하나님이 이같이 말하노라. 이 언약의 말들에 순종하지 아니하는 자는 저주받으리라.
3 And say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel; Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the words of this covenant,
4 이 언약은 내가 너희 조상들을 이집트 지역에서, 곧 철 용광로에서 데리고 나온 날에 내가 그들에게 명령하며 말하기를, ‘나의 음성에 순종하고 내가 너희에게 명령한 모든 것에 따라 그것들을 실행하라. 그렇게 하여 너희는 나의 백성이 될 것이요, 나는 너희의 하나님이 되겠노라.’ 한 것이라.
4 Which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so shall ye be my people, and I will be your God:
5 이는 내가 너희 조상들에게 맹세한 것, 즉 그들에게 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 지역을 주리라고 한 그 맹세를 이행하려 함이니, 그것이 오늘날에 이른 것과 같도다.’” 그때 내가 대답하여 말씀드렸으니, “오, 주여, 그것이 그렇게 되기를 바라나이다.” 하였더라.
5 That I may perform the oath which I have sworn unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. Then answered I, and said, So be it, O LORD.
6 그때 주께서 나에게 이같이 말씀하셨도다. “이 모든 말들을 유다의 도시들 안과 예루살렘의 거리들 안에서 반포하며 이같이 말하라. ‘너희는 이 언약의 말들을 듣고 그것들을 이행하라.
6 Then the LORD said unto me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear ye the words of this covenant, and do them.
7 이는 내가 너희 조상들을 이집트 지역에서 데리고 나온 날에 나는 그들에게 진지하게 표명하였으니, 심지어 오늘날까지 이르렀고 일찍 일어나서 역설하며 말하기를, ‘나의 음성에 순종하라.’ 하였노라.
7 For I earnestly protested unto your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even unto this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice.
8 그럼에도 그들은 순종하지 아니하였고 그들의 귀를 기울이지도 아니하였으며 오히려 모두 저마다 그들의 악한 마음의 상상 안에서 살아갔도다. 그러므로 내가 이 언약의 모든 말들을 그들 위에 가져오겠노라. 그것은 내가 그들에게 행하라고 명령한 것이나 그들은 그것들을 행하지 아니하였도다.’”
8 Yet they obeyed not, nor inclined their ear, but walked every one in the imagination of their evil heart: therefore I will bring upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do; but they did them not.
9 그리고 주께서 나에게 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “한 음모가 유다 사람들 사이와 예루살렘 거주자들 사이에서 발견되었도다.
9 And the LORD said unto me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
10 그들이 다시 변질되어 자신들의 선조들의 죄악들로 향하였으니, 그 선조들은 나의 말들을 듣기를 거부하였도다. 그런즉 그들이 다른 신들을 섬기려고 그들을 따라갔도다. 이스라엘 집과 유다 집이 내가 그들의 조상들과 맺은 나의 언약을 파기하였도다.
10 They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.
11 ¶ 그러므로 주가 이같이 말하노라. 보라, 내가 그들 위에 해악을 가져오겠으니, 그들은 능히 모면할 수 없으리라. 그런즉 그들이 나에게 부르짖을지라도 나는 그들에게 경청하지 아니하겠노라.
11 ¶ Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them.
12 그때 유다의 도시들과 예루살렘 거주자들이 가서 자신들이 향을 바치는 신들에게 부르짖으리라. 그러나 그것들은 그들의 곤경의 때에 그들을 일절 구원하지 못하리라.
12 Then shall the cities of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem go, and cry unto the gods unto whom they offer incense: but they shall not save them at all in the time of their trouble.
13 오, 유다야, 이는 너의 신들이 너의 도시들의 수대로 있기 때문이라. 너희가 예루살렘의 거리들의 수에 따라 그 수치스러운 것을 위하여 제단들을 세웠으니, 바로 바알에게 향을 태우는 제단들이라.
13 For according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem have ye set up altars to that shameful thing, even altars to burn incense unto Baal.
14 그러므로 너는 이 백성을 위하여 기도하지 말고, 그들을 위하여 어떤 부르짖음이나 기도로 소리 높이지도 말라. 이는 그들이 자신들의 곤경으로 인하여 나에게 부르짖는 때에 나는 그들의 말을 듣지 아니할 것이기 때문이라.
14 Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up a cry or prayer for them: for I will not hear them in the time that they cry unto me for their trouble.
15 그녀가 많은 이들과 더불어 음란함을 조장하는 것을 보고, 거룩한 고기가 너에게서 지나가 버리는 것을 보면서 나의 사랑을 받는 자가 나의 집 안에서 무엇을 해야겠느냐? 네가 악을 행하는 그때 너는 크게 기뻐하느니라.
15 What hath my beloved to do in mine house, seeing she hath wrought lewdness with many, and the holy flesh is passed from thee? when thou doest evil, then thou rejoicest.
16 주가 이전에 너의 이름을 ‘질 좋은 열매를 내는 수려하고 푸른 올리브나무’라고 불렀도다. 엄청난 소란의 소음과 더불어 그가 그것 위에 불을 붙였으니, 그것의 가지들이 꺾였도다.
16 The LORD called thy name, A green olive tree, fair, and of goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult he hath kindled fire upon it, and the branches of it are broken.
17 이는 이스라엘 집과 유다 집의 악으로 인하여 너를 심은 만군의 주가 너를 대적하여 해악을 천명하였기 때문이라. 그것은 그들이 나에게 분노를 일으키기 위해 바알에게 향을 바침으로써 그들이 스스로를 대적하여 행하여 온 것이라.”
17 For the LORD of hosts, that planted thee, hath pronounced evil against thee, for the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have done against themselves to provoke me to anger in offering incense unto Baal.
18 ¶ 이후에 주께서 저에게 그것의 지식을 주셨기에 제가 그것을 아나이다. 그때 당신께서 그들의 행동거지들을 저에게 보이셨나이다.
18 ¶ And the LORD hath given me knowledge of it, and I know it: then thou shewedst me their doings.
19 그러나 저는 도살로 끌려가는 어린양이나 소 같았나이다. 그런즉 그들이 저를 대적하여 계책들을 고안하며 말하기를, “우리가 그 나무를 그것의 열매와 함께 멸하자. 그리하여 우리가 그를 산 자들의 지역에서 끊어 버려서 그의 이름이 더 이상 기억되지 못하게 하자.” 한 것을 저는 몰랐나이다.
19 But I was like a lamb or an ox that is brought to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.
20 그러나 오, 의롭게 판단하시는 분이요, 중심과 마음을 시험하시는 만군의 주여, 저로 하여금 그들 위에 임하는 당신의 복수를 보게 하소서. 이는 당신께 제가 저의 송사를 나타내 보였기 때문이니이다.
20 But, O LORD of hosts, that judgest righteously, that triest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I revealed my cause.
21 그러므로 너의 생명을 찾아다니며 말하기를, “네가 우리 손에 죽지 아니하려면 주의 이름으로 예언하지 말라.” 하는 자들인 아나돗 사람들에 관하여 주가 이같이 말하노라.
21 Therefore thus saith the LORD of the men of Anathoth, that seek thy life, saying, Prophesy not in the name of the LORD, that thou die not by our hand:
22 그러므로 만군의 주가 이같이 말하노라. 보라, 내가 그들에게 형벌을 내리겠노라. 청년들은 칼에 의하여 죽을 것이요, 그들의 아들들과 그들의 딸들은 기근으로 죽으리라.
22 Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, I will punish them: the young men shall die by the sword; their sons and their daughters shall die by famine:
23 그리고 그들 중에서 남은 자들이 없으리라. 이는 내가 아나돗 사람들 위에 해악을 가져올 것이기 때문이니, 곧 그들의 감찰의 해라.
23 And there shall be no remnant of them: for I will bring evil upon the men of Anathoth, even the year of their visitation.
