전도서 11장

1 너의 빵을 물들 위에 던지라. 이는 네가 많은 날들이 지난 후에 그것을 발견할 것이기 때문이라.

1 Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.

2 일곱에게 몫을 주고 여덟에게도 그리하라. 이는 네가 무슨 해악이 땅 위에 임할지 모르기 때문이라.

2 Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.

3 만일 구름들이 비로 가득하다면 그것들은 땅 위에 비를 쏟아 스스로를 비우느니라. 그리고 만일 나무가 남쪽을 향해서나 북쪽을 향해서 쓰러진다면 그 나무가 쓰러지는 곳, 거기에 그것이 있으리라.

3 If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.

4 바람을 관찰하는 자는 씨를 뿌리지 아니할 것이요, 구름들을 유념하는 자는 거두지 아니하리라.

4 He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.

5 영의 길이 무엇인지, 또한 아이 밴 여자의 태 속에서 뼈들이 어떻게 자라는지 네가 모르듯이, 바로 이처럼 너는 모든 것들을 만드시는 하나님의 역사들을 모르느니라.

5 As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.

6 아침에 너의 씨를 뿌리고 저녁에 너의 손을 거두지 말라. 이는 네가 이것이 형통할지, 저것이 형통할지 아니면 그것들이 둘 다 동일하게 잘될지 모르기 때문이라.

6 In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.

7 ¶ 참으로 빛은 달콤하며, 두 눈이 해를 바라보는 것은 기쁜 일이라.

7 ¶ Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun:

8 그러나 만일 사람이 여러 해들을 살며 그 모든 세월을 크게 즐거워할지라도 여전히 그로 하여금 어둠의 날들을 기억하게 하라. 이는 그날들이 많기 때문이라. 다가오는 모든 것은 헛되도다.

8 But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity.

9 ¶ 오, 청년아, 너의 젊음을 크게 기뻐하라. 그리고 너의 젊음의 날들에 너의 마음으로 하여금 네게 기운을 내게 하고 너의 마음의 길들 가운데 너의 두 눈이 보는 대로 살아가라. 그러나 너는 알지니, 이 모든 것들로 인하여 하나님께서 너를 심판 가운데로 데려가시리라.

9 ¶ Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.

10 그러므로 슬픔을 너의 마음에서 제거하고 악을 너의 육체에서 치워 버리라. 이는 유년 시절과 젊은 시절이 헛되기 때문이라.

10 Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.
