마태복음 23장

1 그때 예수님께서 무리에게 그리고 그분의 제자들에게 이르며

1 Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,

2 이같이 말씀하셨느니라. “서기관들과 바리새파 사람들이 모세의 자리에 앉아 있도다.

2 Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:

3 그러므로 무엇이든지 그들이 너희에게 준수하라고 지시하는 것은 모두 준수하고 실행하라. 그러나 너희는 그들의 행위들을 따라 하지는 말지니, 그들이 말은 하는데 실행은 하지 않기 때문이라.

3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.

4 이는 그들이 무거운 짐들과 지기에 고된 짐들을 묶어두고 그것들을 사람들의 어깨에 지우기 때문이라. 그러나 그들 자신은 그 짐들을 옮기는 데 자신들의 손가락 중 하나도 대려고 하지 않느니라.

4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.

5 오히려 그들은 자신들의 모든 행위들을 사람들에게 보이기 위하여 하느니라. 그들은 자신들의 성구함들을 넓히고 자신들의 의복들의 테두리들을 크게 하느니라.

5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

6 그러면서 잔치들에서는 가장 윗 좌석들을 사랑하며 회당들에서는 으뜸가는 자리들을 사랑하고

6 And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,

7 시장들에서는 인사받는 것들을 사랑하며 사람들에게서 ‘랍비여, 랍비여.’라고 불리는 것을 사랑하느니라.

7 And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.

8 그러나 너희는 랍비라고 불리지 말라. 이는 너희의 스승은 한 분, 곧 그리스도이기 때문이라. 그런즉 너희 모두는 형제들이라.

8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.

9 그리고 땅 위에서 어떤 사람도 너희의 아버지라고 부르지 말라. 이는 너희의 아버지는 한 분이시요, 그분께서는 하늘에 계시기 때문이라.

9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

10 또한 너희는 스승들로 불리지도 말라. 이는 너희의 스승은 한 분, 곧 그리스도이기 때문이라.

10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.

11 오직 너희 가운데 가장 위대한 자는 너희의 종이 될지니라.

11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.

12 그런즉 누구든지 스스로를 크게 높이는 자는 낮춰질 것이요, 스스로를 겸손하게 하는 자는 크게 높여지리라.

12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

13 ¶ 그러나 위선자들인 서기관들과 바리새파 사람들아, 너희에게 화가 있기를 바라노라! 이는 사람들을 거슬러 하늘의 왕국을 너희가 닫아 버렸으므로 너희가 스스로 들어가지도 않고 들어가려고 진입하는 자들도 너희가 용납하지 않기 때문이라.

13 ¶ But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.

14 위선자들인 서기관들과 바리새파 사람들아, 너희에게 화가 있기를 바라노라! 이는 너희가 과부들의 집들을 삼켰고 겉치레로 오래 기도하기 때문이라. 그러므로 너희는 더 심한 영벌의 심판을 받으리라.

14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.

15 위선자들인 서기관들과 바리새파 사람들아, 너희에게 화가 있기를 바라노라! 이는 너희가 한 명의 개종자를 만들기 위해 바다와 육지를 순회하다가 그가 개종자가 되면, 너희는 그를 자신들보다 두 배나 더한 지옥의 자식으로 만들기 때문이라.

15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.

16 너희, 눈먼 인도자들아, 너희에게 화가 있기를 바라노라! 너희는 말하기를, ‘누구든지 성전으로 맹세하면 그것은 아무것도 아니나, 누구든지 성전의 금으로 맹세하면 그는 빚진 자라.’ 하는도다.

16 Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!

17 너희, 눈멀고 어리석은 자들아, 그러므로 어느 것이 더 중대하냐, 금이냐, 아니면 금을 성결하게 구별시키는 성전이냐?

17 Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?

18 또한 너희는 말하기를, ‘누구든지 제단으로 맹세하면 그것은 아무것도 아니나, 누구든지 그것 위에 있는 예물로 맹세하면 그는 유죄라.’ 하는도다.

18 And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty.

19 너희, 눈멀고 어리석은 자들아, 그러므로 어느 것이 더 중대하냐, 예물이냐 예물을 성결하게 구별시키는 제단이냐?

19 Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?

20 그러므로 누구나 제단으로 맹세하는 자는 그 제단으로 맹세하는 것이요, 그 위에 있는 모든 것들로 맹세하는 것이라.

20 Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.

21 그리고 누구나 성전으로 맹세하는 자는 그 성전으로 맹세하는 것이요, 그 안에서 거하시는 분으로 맹세하는 것이라.

21 And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.

22 그리고 하늘로 맹세하는 자는 하나님의 보좌로 맹세하는 것이요, 그 위에 앉아 계신 분으로 맹세하는 것이라.

22 And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.

23 위선자들인 서기관들과 바리새파 사람들아, 너희에게 화가 있기를 바라노라! 이는 너희가 박하와 아니스와 쿠민의 십일조는 내면서 율법의 더 중한 사안들인 공의와 자비와 믿음을 빠뜨렸기 때문이라. 너희가 이것들을 마땅히 실행해야 하며, 다른 것들도 실행하지 않은 채 남겨 두지 말아야 하느니라.

23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

24 너희, 눈먼 인도자들아, 너희가 모기는 거르면서도 낙타는 삼키는도다.

24 Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.

25 위선자들인 서기관들과 바리새파 사람들아, 너희에게 화가 있기를 바라노라! 이는 너희가 잔과 대접의 겉면은 정결하게 하나 그것들의 속은 착취와 남용으로 가득하기 때문이라.

25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.

26 너, 눈먼 바리새파 사람아, 먼저 잔과 대접의 속에 있는 것부터 정결하게 하여 그것들의 겉면 역시 정결하게 될 수 있도록 하라.

26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

27 위선자들인 서기관들과 바리새파 사람들아, 너희에게 화가 있기를 바라노라! 이는 너희가 하얗게 칠해진 돌무덤들과 같기 때문이라. 그것들은 정녕 표면상으로는 아름답게 나타나나, 속에는 죽은 사람들의 뼈들로 가득하며 또 모든 불결함으로 가득하도다.

27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.

28 너희 역시 바로 이와 같으니, 겉으로는 사람들에게 의롭게 나타나나 너희 속은 위선과 죄악으로 가득하도다.

28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

29 위선자들인 서기관들과 바리새파 사람들아, 너희에게 화가 있기를 바라노라! 이는 너희가 예언자들의 묘지들을 만들고 의로운 자들의 돌무덤들을 장식하며

29 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,

30 말하기를, ‘만일 우리가 우리 조상들의 날들에 있었다면, 우리는 예언자들의 피에 있어서 그들과 동참자들이 되지 않았으리라.’ 하는도다.

30 And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.

31 이러한 이유로 너희가 예언자들을 죽인 자들의 자녀들이라는 것에 대하여 너희는 스스로에게 증인들이 되는도다.

31 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.

32 그렇다면 너희 조상들의 분량을 너희가 가득 채우라.

32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.

33 너희, 뱀들아, 너희, 독사들의 세대야, 너희가 어떻게 지옥의 영벌의 심판을 면할 수 있겠느냐?

33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

34 ¶ 이러한 이유로, 보라, 내가 너희에게 예언자들과 지혜로운 사람들과 서기관들을 보내노라. 그리하면 너희가 그들 중 일부를 죽이고 십자가에 못 박으리라. 그리고 너희가 그들 중 일부를 너희의 회당들 안에서 채찍질하고, 도시에서 도시로 다니며 그들을 박해하리라.

34 ¶ Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:

35 이는 의로운 아벨의 피로부터 너희가 성전과 제단 사이에서 살해한 바라키아스의 아들 사카랴의 피까지 땅 위에서 흘려진 의로운 피 모두가 너희 위에 임하게 하려 함이라.

35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.

36 진실로 내가 너희에게 말하노니, ‘이 모든 것들이 이 세대 위에 임하리라.’

36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

37 오, 예루살렘아, 예루살렘아, 너, 예언자들을 죽이고 너에게로 보내심을 받은 자들을 돌로 쳐서 죽이는 자야, 암탉이 그녀의 병아리들을 자기 두 날개 아래로 모으는, 바로 그와 같이 내가 얼마나 자주 너의 자녀들을 한데 모으려고 하였느냐! 그런데 너희가 원치 아니하였도다.

37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

38 보라, 너희 집이 너희에게 황량하게 남겨졌도다.

38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

39 이는 내가 너희에게 말하기를, 이제부터 ‘너희가 ‘주의 이름으로 오시는 분께서 찬양받으시는도다.’라고 말할 때까지 너희는 나를 보지 못하리라.’ 하기 때문이라.”

39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
