사무엘기하 10장

1 그러자 이 일이 있은 후에 다음과 같은 일이 있었으니, 암몬의 후손들의 왕이 죽고 그의 아들 하눈이 그를 대신하여 통치하였더라.

1 And it came to pass after this, that the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his stead.

2 그때 다윗이 말하기를, “나하시의 아들 하눈의 아버지가 나에게 친절을 보였듯이 나도 그에게 친절을 보이겠노라.” 하였더라. 그런즉 다윗이 자기 종들의 손을 통하여 그를 위로하러 사람을 보냈으니, 그의 아버지로 인함이더라. 그리하여 다윗의 종들이 암몬의 후손들의 지역 안으로 들어왔더라.

2 Then said David, I will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father shewed kindness unto me. And David sent to comfort him by the hand of his servants for his father. And David's servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.

3 그런데 암몬의 후손들의 통치자들이 그들의 군주 하눈에게 말하기를, “당신께서는 다윗이 당신의 아버지를 예우하여 그가 당신께 위로자들을 보냈다고 생각하시나이까? 도리어 다윗이 도시를 정찰하고 그곳을 염탐하여 그곳을 정복하고자 자기 종들을 당신께 보내지 아니하였나이까?” 하였더라.

3 And the princes of the children of Ammon said unto Hanun their lord, Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? hath not David rather sent his servants unto thee, to search the city, and to spy it out, and to overthrow it?

4 이러한 이유로 하눈이 다윗의 종들을 붙잡아 그들의 수염들의 절반을 밀어 버리고 그들의 의복들의 중간, 곧 그들의 볼기들까지 잘라 내고 그들을 돌려보냈더라.

4 Wherefore Hanun took David's servants, and shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.

5 그들이 그것을 다윗에게 알리자 그가 그들을 맞이하러 사람을 보냈으니, 그 사람들이 대단히 부끄러워하였기 때문이라. 그러자 왕이 말하기를, “너희의 수염들이 자랄 때까지 예리코에 머물라. 그러고 난 다음에 되돌아오라.” 하였더라.

5 When they told it unto David, he sent to meet them, because the men were greatly ashamed: and the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.

6 ¶ 이윽고 암몬의 후손들은 자신들이 다윗 앞에서 악취를 풍긴 것을 알았을 때 암몬의 후손들이 사람을 보내어 벧르홉의 시리아인들과 조바의 시리아인들에게서 이만 명의 보병들과, 마아카흐 왕에게서 일천 명의 남자들과, 이슈톱에서 일만 이천 명의 남자들을 고용하였더라.

6 ¶ And when the children of Ammon saw that they stank before David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Bethrehob, and the Syrians of Zoba, twenty thousand footmen, and of king Maacah a thousand men, and of Ishtob twelve thousand men.

7 그러자 다윗이 그것에 관하여 듣자 그가 요압과 막강한 남자들의 온 군대를 보냈더라.

7 And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.

8 이에 암몬의 후손들이 나와 성문으로 들어가는 진입로에서 전투 대열로 배치하였더라. 그리고 조바의 시리아인들과 르홉의 시리아인들과 이슈톱과 마아카흐 남자들은 전장에서 자기들끼리만 있었더라.

8 And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entering in of the gate: and the Syrians of Zoba, and of Rehob, and Ishtob, and Maacah, were by themselves in the field.

9 요압은 전선이 자신을 대적하여 앞뒤로 있는 것을 보자 그가 이스라엘에서 선정된 모든 남자들 중에서 택하여 시리아인들을 대적하여 전투 대열로 그들을 배치하였더라.

9 When Joab saw that the front of the battle was against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians:

10 그리고 그가 백성의 남은 자들을 자신의 형제 아비샤이의 손안에 넘겨 주었으니, 그로 하여금 암몬의 후손들을 대적하여 그들의 전열을 가다듬게 하려 함이라.

10 And the rest of the people he delivered into the hand of Abishai his brother, that he might put them in array against the children of Ammon.

11 그러면서 그가 이같이 말하였더라. “만일 시리아인들이 나에게 너무 강하다면, 그때 너는 나를 도울지니라. 그러나 만일 암몬의 후손들이 너에게 너무 강하다면, 그때 내가 와서 너를 돕겠노라.

11 And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me: but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will come and help thee.

12 훌륭한 용기를 내라. 그리고 우리가 우리 백성을 위하여, 또 우리 하나님의 도시들을 위하여 남자들답게 행하자. 그런즉 주께서 보시기에 좋은 것을 그분께서 행하시기를 바라노라.”

12 Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the cities of our God: and the LORD do that which seemeth him good.

13 그러고 나서 요압이 자신과 함께한 백성과 더불어 시리아인들을 대적하여 전투에 가까이 나아갔더라. 그러자 그들이 그의 앞에서 도망쳤더라.

13 And Joab drew nigh, and the people that were with him, unto the battle against the Syrians: and they fled before him.

14 그리고 암몬의 후손들은 시리아인들이 도망한 것을 보자 그때 그들도 아비샤이 앞에서 도망하여 도시 안으로 들어갔더라. 그렇게 하여 요압이 암몬의 후손들로부터 돌이켜 예루살렘으로 왔더라.

14 And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, then fled they also before Abishai, and entered into the city. So Joab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem.

15 ¶ 이윽고 시리아인들은 자신들이 이스라엘 앞에서 패한 것을 보자, 그들은 자신들끼리 함께 모였더라.

15 ¶ And when the Syrians saw that they were smitten before Israel, they gathered themselves together.

16 그리고 하달에젤이 사람을 보내어 강 너머에 있던 시리아인들을 데리고 나왔더라. 그런 다음에 그들은 헬람으로 왔더라. 그리하여 하달에젤의 군대 대장인 쇼박이 그들 앞에 갔더라.

16 And Hadarezer sent, and brought out the Syrians that were beyond the river: and they came to Helam; and Shobach the captain of the host of Hadarezer went before them.

17 그리고 그것이 다윗에게 알려지자 그가 온 이스라엘을 한데 모아 요르단을 넘어가서 헬람에 이르렀더라. 그러자 시리아인들이 다윗을 대적하여 자신들의 전투 대열을 갖추고 그와 싸웠더라.

17 And when it was told David, he gathered all Israel together, and passed over Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Syrians set themselves in array against David, and fought with him.

18 그러다가 시리아인들이 이스라엘 앞에서 도망하였더라. 이에 다윗이 시리아인들의 병거 칠백 대에 속한 사람들과 사만 명의 기병들을 살해하며 그들의 군대 대장 쇼박을 쳤으니, 그가 거기서 죽었더라.

18 And the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew the men of seven hundred chariots of the Syrians, and forty thousand horsemen, and smote Shobach the captain of their host, who died there.

19 이윽고 하달에젤에게 종들이었던 모든 왕들이 자신들이 이스라엘 앞에서 패한 것을 보았을 때 그들이 이스라엘과 화친을 맺고 그들을 섬겼더라. 그렇게 하여 시리아인들은 암몬의 후손들을 더 이상 돕는 것을 두려워하였더라.

19 And when all the kings that were servants to Hadarezer saw that they were smitten before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and served them. So the Syrians feared to help the children of Ammon any more.
