사도행전 28장

1 이윽고 그들이 피신한 후에야 그때 그들은 그 섬이 멜리타라 불린 것을 알았더라.

1 And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island was called Melita.

2 그리고 미개한 백성이 우리에게 적지 않은 친절을 보였더라. 이는 당시에 오던 비로 인하여 그리고 추위로 인하여 그들이 불을 피워 주었고 우리 각자를 모두 받아들였기 때문이라.

2 And the barbarous people shewed us no little kindness: for they kindled a fire, and received us every one, because of the present rain, and because of the cold.

3 그러자 바울이 나뭇가지들을 한 다발 모았고 그것들을 불 위에 놓았을 때 독사 한 마리가 열기 속에서 나와 그의 손을 꽉 물었더라.

3 And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand.

4 그러자 미개인들이 독을 지닌 짐승이 그의 손에 매달려 있는 것을 보자 그들은 자기들끼리 말하기를, “의심할 바 없이 이 남자는 살인자로다. 비록 그가 바다에서 피신하였어도 여전히 복수는 그가 살도록 내버려 두지 않는도다.” 하였더라.

4 And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.

5 그런데 그는 그 짐승을 불속으로 떨어 버렸고 전혀 해를 입지 아니하였더라.

5 And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm.

6 하지만 그들은 그가 붓거나 갑자기 쓰러져 죽을 때를 관망하였더라. 그러나 그들이 한참을 바라보았는데도 그에게 전혀 피해가 없는 것을 본 뒤에 그들이 자신들의 생각들을 바꾸어 그는 신이라고 말하였더라.

6 Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.

7 바로 그 근방들에 그 섬의 우두머리인 남자의 소유지들이 있었으니, 그의 이름은 푸블리우스였더라. 그는 우리를 받아들였고, 정중하게 우리를 삼 일간 묵게 해 주었더라.

7 In the same quarters were possessions of the chief man of the island, whose name was Publius; who received us, and lodged us three days courteously.

8 그러자 이러한 일이 있었으니, 푸블리우스의 아버지가 열병과 하혈을 동반한 이질로 인하여 앓아 누웠더라. 바울이 그에게 들어가서 기도하였으니, 자기 두 손으로 그에게 안수하여 그를 치유하였더라.

8 And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.

9 그렇게 하여 이 일이 벌어지자 그 섬 안에서 질병들을 지녔던 다른 이들도 와서 치유받았더라.

9 So when this was done, others also, which had diseases in the island, came, and were healed:

10 그들은 또한 우리를 많은 예우들로 존경하였고 우리가 출발할 때는 그들이 필수품과 같은 그러한 것들을 우리에게 실어 주었더라.

10 Who also honoured us with many honours; and when we departed, they laded us with such things as were necessary.

11 그리고 삼 개월 뒤, 그 섬에서 겨울을 난 알렉산드리아의 선박으로 우리가 떠났는데 그 선박의 표식은 카스토르와 폴룩스였더라.

11 And after three months we departed in a ship of Alexandria, which had wintered in the isle, whose sign was Castor and Pollux.

12 그리고 시라쿠스에 상륙한 우리는 거기에서 삼 일간 머물렀더라.

12 And landing at Syracuse, we tarried there three days.

13 또한 거기서부터 우리는 우회하여 레기움에 이르렀더라. 그리고 하루 뒤에 남풍이 불어 다음 날 우리는 푸테올리에 이르렀더라.

13 And from thence we fetched a compass, and came to Rhegium: and after one day the south wind blew, and we came the next day to Puteoli:

14 거기에서 우리는 형제들을 발견하였고 칠 일간 그들과 함께 머물기를 열망하였더라. 그러고 나서 우리는 로마를 향하여 그처럼 나아갔더라.

14 Where we found brethren, and were desired to tarry with them seven days: and so we went toward Rome.

15 그리고 형제들이 우리에 관하여 듣자 거기서부터 그들은 우리를 만나려고 ‘압피이 공개 토론장’과 ‘세 선술집’까지 왔으며, 바울이 그들을 보자 그는 하나님께 감사드렸고 용기를 얻었더라.

15 And from thence, when the brethren heard of us, they came to meet us as far as Appii forum, and The three taverns: whom when Paul saw, he thanked God, and took courage.

16 그리고 우리가 로마에 왔을 때 백부장이 경호대장에게 죄수들을 인계하였더라. 그러나 바울은 자신을 지키는 군인 한 명과 함께 따로 거하는 것이 승낙되었더라.

16 And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself with a soldier that kept him.

17 그러고 나서 이러한 일이 있었으니, 삼 일 뒤에 바울이 유대인들의 우두머리들을 한데 불렀더라. 그리고 그들이 함께 오자 그는 그들에게 이같이 말하였더라. “남자 형제들아, 비록 나는 백성을 대적하여 아무 짓도 저지르지 아니하였고 우리 조상들의 관례들도 어기지 아니하였는데 그럼에도 나는 예루살렘에서부터 로마인들의 손안에 죄수로 넘겨졌노라.

17 And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews together: and when they were come together, he said unto them, Men and brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.

18 그들이 나를 심문하였을 때 그들도 나를 가게 하려고 하였으니, 나에게 죽어야 할 까닭이 전혀 없었기 때문이라.

18 Who, when they had examined me, would have let me go, because there was no cause of death in me.

19 그러나 유대인들이 그것을 반대하여 고하자 나는 카이사르에게 상소하도록 강하게 압박을 받았으니, 내가 조금이라도 나의 민족을 고소하려고 했던 것이 아니니라.

19 But when the Jews spake against it, I was constrained to appeal unto Caesar; not that I had ought to accuse my nation of.

20 그러므로 이런 까닭에 나는 너희를 보고 너희와 이야기하고자 너희를 불렀노라. 이는 이스라엘의 소망을 위하여 내가 이 사슬에 묶여 있기 때문이라.”

20 For this cause therefore have I called for you, to see you, and to speak with you: because that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.

21 그러자 그들이 그에게 이같이 말하였더라. “우리는 그대에 관하여 유대에서 온 편지들을 받지도 아니하였고 여기에 온 형제들 중 누구도 그대에게서 어떤 피해를 받았다고 제시하였거나 말하지도 아니하였노라.

21 And they said unto him, We neither received letters out of Judaea concerning thee, neither any of the brethren that came shewed or spake any harm of thee.

22 그러나 우리는 그대가 무엇을 생각하는지 그대로부터 듣기를 열망하노라. 이는 이 종파에 관하여는 어디에서나 적대시 언급되는 것을 알기 때문이라.”

22 But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against.

23 그리하여 그들이 그에게 한 날을 지정한 후에 많은 이들이 그의 숙소 안으로 그에게 나아왔더라. 그는 아침부터 저녁까지 모세의 율법과 예언서들 모두에서부터 그들에게 하나님의 왕국을 자세히 설명하였고 증언하였으며 예수님에 관하여 그들을 설득하였더라.

23 And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.

24 그러자 어떤 이들은 전해진 것들을 믿었고 어떤 이들은 믿지 아니하였더라.

24 And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.

25 그리하여 그들이 자기들끼리 합의를 보지 못하자 바울이 한 마디 말을 한 후, 그들이 떠났더라. “성령님께서 예언자 이사-야를 통하여 우리 조상들에게 잘 말씀하셨도다.

25 And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,

26 이르시기를, ‘이 백성에게 가서 이같이 말하라. ‘너희가 듣기는 들어도 이해하지 못할 것이요, 너희가 보기는 보아도 알지 못할 것이라.

26 Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:

27 이는 이 백성의 마음이 무디어지고 그들의 귀가 듣는 것에 둔하고, 그들이 자신들의 눈을 감았기 때문이니, 그들이 자신들의 눈으로 보지 못하게 하려 함이요, 자신들의 귀로 듣지 못하게 하려 함이요, 자신들의 마음으로 이해하지 못하게 하려 함이요, 회심하지 못하게 하려 함이요, 내가 그들을 치유하지 못하게 하려 함이라.’’ 하셨느니라.

27 For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

28 그러므로 하나님의 구원이 이방인들에게 보내졌다는 것과 그들이 그것을 들으리라는 것이 너희에게 알려질지니라.”

28 Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.

29 그리하여 그가 이런 말들을 한 후에 유대인들이 떠났으며 자기들끼리 엄청난 논의가 있었더라.

29 And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves.

30 그리고 바울이 자기 자신의 셋집에서 만 이 년을 거하며 그에게 온 자들을 모두 받아들였으니,

30 And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him,

31 모든 담대함으로 하나님의 왕국을 선포하며 주 예수 그리스도에 관한 그런 것들을 가르쳤으니, 아무도 그를 금하지 않았더라.

31 Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.
