고린도전서 8장

1 이제 우리는 우상들에게 바쳐진 것들과 관련하여 우리 모두가 지식이 있음을 아느니라. 지식은 우쭐하게 하나 성도의 사랑은 세워 주느니라.

1 Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.

2 그리고 만일 어떤 사람이 자신이 어떤 것을 안다고 생각한다면 그는 자신이 마땅히 알아야 하는 것을 아직 아무것도 모르고 있는 것이라.

2 And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.

3 그러나 만일 어떤 사람이 하나님을 사랑한다면 바로 그 사람은 그분께 알려진 것이라.

3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

4 그러므로 우상들에게 희생 제물로 바쳐진 그런 것들을 먹는 것에 관하여, 우리는 우상이 이 세상에서 아무것도 아니며 유일하신 분 외에 다른 하나님이 전혀 없음을 아느니라.

4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.

5 이는 비록 하늘이나 땅에 신들이라 불리는 것들이 있으나, (신들도 많고 주들도 많으므로)

5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)

6 우리에게는 오직 유일하신 하나님, 곧 아버지만 계시니, 모든 것들이 그분께로부터 났고 우리도 그분 안에 있느니라. 그리고 유일하신 주 예수 그리스도가 계시니 그분에 의하여 모든 것들이 있으며 우리도 그분에 의하여 있느니라.

6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

7 하지만 모든 사람 안에 저마다 그 지식이 있는 것은 아니니라. 이는 어떤 이들이 이 시각까지 우상에 관하여 양심의 가책을 가진 채 어떤 우상에게 바쳐진 것으로서 그것을 먹기 때문이라. 그리하여 그들의 약한 양심이 더럽혀지느니라.

7 Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.

8 그러나 음식은 우리를 하나님께 내세우지 못하느니라. 이는 우리가 먹는다 해도 우리가 더 낫지 아니하고, 우리가 먹지 않는다 해도 우리가 더 못하지 아니하기 때문이라.

8 But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.

9 다만 너희의 것인 이 자유가 어떤 방식으로든 약한 자들에게 걸려 넘어지게 하는 장애물이 되지 않도록 주의하라.

9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.

10 이는 만일 어떤 사람이 지식을 가진 네가 우상의 신전 안에 앉아 식사하고 있는 것을 본다면, 약한 자의 양심이 우상들에게 바쳐진 그런 것들을 먹는 데 대범해지지 않겠느냐?

10 For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;

11 그리하면 너의 지식으로 말미암아 그 약한 형제가 해를 입지 않겠느냐? 그를 위하여 그리스도께서 죽으셨느니라.

11 And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?

12 그러나 너희가 그 형제에게 그렇게 죄를 짓고 그들의 약한 양심에 상처를 입힐 때 너희는 그리스도를 대적하여 죄를 짓는 것이라.

12 But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.

13 이런 이유로 만일 음식이 내 형제를 실족하게 한다면 나는 세상이 존립하고 있는 동안 고기를 전혀 먹지 않겠노라. 이는 내가 나의 형제를 실족하게 하는 일이 없게 하려 함이라.

13 Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.
