열왕기상 17장

1 그리고 길르앗의 거주자들에 속하였던, 티셉족 엘리야가 아합에게 말하기를, “내가 그 앞에 서서 섬기는, 이스라엘의 주 하나님께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니, 오직 나의 말에 따라 근 몇 년 동안은 이슬도 비도 없으리라.” 하였더라.

1 And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

2 그런즉 주의 말씀이 그에게 임하여 이같이 말씀하시니라.

2 And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,

3 “너는 여기에서 이동하여 동쪽 방향으로 너를 돌이키고 요르단 앞에 있는 크릿 시냇가에 너의 몸을 숨기라.

3 Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

4 그리고 이러한 일이 일어나리니, 너는 시냇물을 마실지니라. 그런즉 내가 까마귀들에게 명령하여 거기서 너를 먹이라고 하였노라.”

4 And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.

5 이처럼 주의 말씀에 따라 그가 가서 실행하였더라. 이는 그가 요르단 앞에 있는 크릿 시냇가로 가서 지냈기 때문이라.

5 So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

6 그런즉 까마귀들이 그에게 아침으로 빵과 고기를 가져왔고, 저녁으로 빵과 고기를 가져왔더라. 그리고 그가 시냇물을 마셨더라.

6 And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.

7 그리고 얼마 후 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그 지역에 비가 전혀 없었으므로 시내가 말라 버렸더라.

7 And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.

8 ¶ 그러자 주의 말씀이 그에게 임하여 이같이 말씀하셨느니라.

8 ¶ And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,

9 “일어나라. 너는 지돈에 속해 있는 자르팟으로 이동하여 거기서 지내라. 보라, 내가 과부인 한 여자에게 거기서 너를 부양할 것을 명령하였느니라.”

9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.

10 그렇게 하여 그가 일어나 자르팟으로 갔더라. 그리고 그가 도시의 성문에 이르렀을 때, 보라, 그 과부인 여자가 거기서 나뭇가지들을 모으고 있었더라. 그리하여 그가 그녀를 불러 말하기를, “내가 그대에게 간구하노니, 나에게 한 그릇 안에 약간의 물을 떠와서 내가 마실 수 있도록 해 달라.” 하였더라.

10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

11 그리고 그녀가 그것을 떠오러 가는 동안 그가 그녀를 불러 말하기를, “내가 그대에게 간구하노니, 그대의 수중에 있는 약간의 빵을 나에게 가져와 달라.” 하였더라.

11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.

12 그러자 그녀가 말하기를, “주 당신의 하나님께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니, 저에게는 둥글납작한 빵이 하나도 없사오며, 그저 한 통 안에 든 굵은 곡물 가루 한 줌과 한 단지 안에 든 약간의 기름만 있나이다. 그런즉 보소서, 제가 나뭇가지 두 개를 모으고 있었나니, 이는 제가 들어가서 저와 제 아들을 위하여 그것을 요리하여 우리가 그것을 먹고 죽으려 함이었나이다.” 하였더라.

12 And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.

13 이에 엘리야가 그녀에게 이같이 말하였더라. “두려워하지 말라. 가서 네가 말한 대로 행하라. 그러나 그것으로 먼저 나에게 작고 둥글납작한 빵 하나를 만들고 그것을 나에게 가져오라. 그러고 난 뒤에 너와 너의 아들을 위하여 만들라.

13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.

14 이는 이스라엘의 주 하나님께서 이같이 말씀하시기를, ‘주가 땅 위에 비를 보내는 그날까지는 굵은 곡물 가루가 든 통이 고갈되지 아니할 것이요, 기름이 든 단지가 비지도 아니하리라.’ 하셨기 때문이라.”

14 For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.

15 그런즉 엘리야가 말한 것에 따라 그녀가 가서 행하였더라. 그리고 그와, 그녀와, 그녀의 집이 여러 날들 동안 먹었더라.

15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

16 그리하여 주의 말씀대로, 곧 그분께서 엘리야를 통하여 말씀하신 대로, 굵은 곡물 가루가 든 통이 고갈되지 아니하였고, 기름이 든 단지가 비지도 아니하였더라.

16 And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.

17 ¶ 그리고 이 일들 후에 다음과 같은 일이 있었으니, 그 집의 여주인인 그 여자의 아들이 병들었더라. 그러다가 그의 병세가 몹시 심하여 그의 안에 호흡이 남아 있지 아니하였더라.

17 ¶ And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.

18 그런즉 그녀가 엘리야에게 말하기를, “오, 하나님의 사람이신 당신이여, 제가 당신과 무슨 상관이 있나이까? 당신께서 저의 죄의 기억을 떠올리게 하시고, 또 저의 아들을 살해하시려고 제게 오셨나이까?” 하였더라.

18 And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?

19 그러자 그가 그녀에게 말하기를, “너의 아들을 나에게 달라.” 하였더라. 그런 다음에 그가 그녀의 품에서 그를 데려다가 그를 들고, 자기가 거하던 다락 속에 올려다 두었고, 그를 자기 자신의 침상 위에 올려놓았더라.

19 And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.

20 그리고 그가 주께 부르짖으며 말씀드리기를, “오, 주 나의 하나님이여, 제가 그 곁에서 체류하고 있는 과부의 아들을 당신께서 죽게 하심으로써 그녀 위에도 악을 가져오셨나이까?” 하였더라.

20 And he cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?

21 그러고 나서 그가 자신의 몸을 그 아이 위에 세 번 폈고 주께 부르짖으며 말씀드리기를, “오, 주 나의 하나님이여, 제가 당신께 간구하오니, 이 아이의 혼이 그의 안으로 다시 돌아오게 해 주소서.” 하였더라.

21 And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again.

22 그러자 주께서 엘리야의 음성을 들으셨더라. 그런즉 그 아이의 혼이 그의 안으로 다시 돌아왔고 그가 다시 살아났더라.

22 And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.

23 그러자 엘리야가 그 아이를 데려다가 그를 그 방실에서 집 안으로 내려보내고 그를 그의 어머니에게 넘겨주었더라. 그러면서 엘리야가 말하기를, “보라, 너의 아들이 살아 있느니라.” 하였더라.

23 And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.

24 ¶ 그리고 그 여자가 엘리야에게 말하기를, “당신께서 하나님의 사람이심과 당신의 입안에 있는 주의 말씀이 진리임을 이제 제가 이것으로 아나이다.” 하였더라.

24 ¶ And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth.
