로마서 9장
1 내가 그리스도 안에서 진리를 말하고 나는 거짓말하지 아니하나니, 나의 양심 또한 성령님 안에서 내게 증거하거니와
1 I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost,
2 나는 내 마음속에 심한 중압감과 지속적인 슬픔을 지니고 있느니라.
2 That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.
3 이는 나의 형제들, 곧 육체에 따른 나의 혈족들을 위해서라면 나 자신이 그리스도로부터 저주받기를 바랄 수도 있기 때문이라.
3 For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:
4 그들은 이스라엘인들이라. 그들에게는 입양과 영광과 언약들과 율법을 주심과 하나님을 섬김과 약속들이 속해 있느니라.
4 Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;
5 조상들도 그들의 조상들이요, 육체와 관련해서는 그리스도께서 그들에게서 나셨으니, 그분은 모든 것 위에 계시는 분이시요, 영원토록 찬양받으시는 하나님이시라. 아멘.
5 Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.
6 그럼에도 하나님의 말씀이 효력을 발휘하지 못한 것과 같지는 않도다. 이는 이스라엘에게서 난 자들이 다 이스라엘은 아니기 때문이라.
6 Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:
7 또한 그들이 아브라함의 씨라고 하여 그들이 모두 자녀들인 것은 아니기 때문이라. 다만 “이삭 안에서 너의 씨가 부름을 받으리라.” 하셨느니라.
7 Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.
8 즉, 육체의 자녀들인 자들, 곧 이들은 하나님의 자녀들이 아니니라. 오직 약속의 자녀들이 그 씨로 여겨지느니라.
8 That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.
9 이는 약속의 말씀이 이러하기 때문이니, “이때에 내가 오겠노라. 그리하면 사-라는 한 아들을 가지리라.” 한 것이라.
9 For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sara shall have a son.
10 그리고 이뿐만 아니라 레베카1 또한 한 사람을 통하여 임신하였으니, 바로 우리 조상 이삭을 통해서라.
10 And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac;
11 (이는 자식들이 아직 태어나지도 않았고 어떤 선이나 악을 행한 것이 없는데도, 택하심에 따른 하나님의 목적이 행위에 의해서가 아니라 오직 부르시는 분에 의하여 서게 하려 하셨기 때문이라.)
11 (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)
12 그녀에게 이와 같은 말이 주어졌으니, “그 형은 그 동생을 섬기게 되리라.” 하였느니라.
12 It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.
13 기록된 바와 같으니, “야곱은 내가 사랑하였으나 에서는 내가 증오하였노라.” 하였도다.
13 As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.
14 그렇다면 우리가 무슨 말을 하겠느냐? 하나님께 불의가 있느냐? 하나님께서 금하시기를 바라노라.
14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.
15 이는 그분께서 모세에게 이같이 말씀하시기 때문이니, “나는 내가 자비를 베풀 자에게 자비를 베풀겠노라. 그리고 나는 내가 연민을 가질 자에게 연민을 가지겠노라.” 하신 것이라.
15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
16 그렇기에 바라는 자에 의한 것도 아니요, 달리는 자에 의한 것도 아니요, 오직 자비를 보이시는 하나님에 의해서니라.
16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.
17 이는 성경 기록이 파라오에게 말씀하시기를, “바로 이와 같은 목적으로 내가 너를 일으켜 세웠나니, 내가 너의 안에서 나의 권능을 보이려 함이며, 나의 이름이 온 땅에 걸쳐 밝히 알려지게 하려 함이라.” 하시기 때문이라.
17 For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.
18 그러므로 그분께서 자비를 베풀 자에게 친히 자비를 베푸시며, 그분께서 원하시는 자를 친히 완악하게 하시느니라.
18 Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.
19 그렇다면 너는 나에게 이같이 말할 것이라. “어찌하여 그분께서 그럼에도 잘못을 찾으시느냐? 그러므로 누가 그분의 뜻에 저항하였느냐?”
19 Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will?
20 오, 사람아, 아니니라. 오히려 하나님께 대꾸하는 너는 누구냐? 지음받은 것이 그것을 지으신 분께 “당신은 어찌하여 나를 이와 같이 만드셨나이까?”라고 말하겠느냐?
20 Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?
21 토기장이가 동일한 덩어리의 진흙으로 그릇 하나를 만들어 영예에 이르게 하고 또 다른 그릇을 만들어 불명예에 이르게 할 권한이 없느냐?
21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?
22 만일 하나님께서 자신의 진노를 보이려는 의사가 있으시고, 또 자신의 권능을 알려지게 하려는 의사가 있으셔서, 멸망에 적합한 진노의 그릇들을 심히 오래 참으심으로 인내하시며,
22 What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:
23 그분께서 친히 영광에 이르도록 미리 예비하신 자비의 그릇들 위에 자신의 영광의 부요함을 알려지게 하고자 하셨다면 어찌하겠느냐?
23 And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,
24 그분께서 부르셨던 바로 우리에게 알려지게 하셨으니, 유대인들 가운데서뿐 아니라 이방인들 가운데서도 부르셨느니라.
24 Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?
25 그분께서 오세에2의 글에서 이같이 말씀하신 것과도 같으니라. “내가 나의 백성이 아니었던 자들을 나의 백성으로 부르겠노라. 그리고 사랑받는 자가 아니었던 그녀를 사랑받는 자라 부르겠노라.
25 As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved.
26 그리하여 이러한 일이 있으리니, ‘너희는 나의 백성이 아니니라.’라고 그들에게 말하게 되었던 그 장소에서 그들은 살아 계신 하나님의 자녀들이라고 불리리라.”
26 And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.
27 이사-야도 이스라엘에 관하여 부르짖느니라. “비록 이스라엘 자녀들의 수가 바다의 모래와 같을지라도 남은 자만 구원을 받으리라.
27 Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:
28 이는 그분께서 그 일을 마치실 것이요, 의로 그것을 일찍 끝내실 것이기 때문이니, 주께서 한 가지 일을 땅 위에서 신속히 이루실 것이기 때문이라.”
28 For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.
29 그리고 이사-야가 미리 말하였던 것과 같으니, “사바오스의 주3께서 우리에게 한 씨를 남겨 두지 아니하셨더라면 우리는 소-돔 같았을 것이요, 고모-라처럼 되었으리라.” 한 것이라.
29 And as Esaias said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodoma, and been made like unto Gomorrha.
30 그렇다면 우리가 무슨 말을 하겠느냐? 의를 뒤따르지 아니하였던 이방인들이 의에 도달하였으니, 바로 믿음에서 나오는 의로다.
30 What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.
31 그러나 의의 율법을 뒤따랐던 이스라엘은 의의 율법에 도달하지 못하였도다.
31 But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.
32 어째서냐? 이는 그들이 그것을 믿음으로 구하지 아니하였고 오히려 율법의 행위들로 되는 것처럼 구한 까닭이라. 이는 그들이 그 걸림돌에 걸려 넘어졌기 때문이라.
32 Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;
33 기록된 바와 같으니, “보라, 내가 시-온에 걸림돌과 실족하게 하는 반석을 두노라. 그런즉 누구든지 그를 믿는 자는 부끄럽지 아니하리라.” 하였도다.
33 As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
