사사기 11장

1 이때 길르앗족 입다는 막강한 용사였는데 그는 창녀의 아들이었으니, 길르앗이 입다를 낳았더라.

1 Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valour, and he was the son of an harlot: and Gilead begat Jephthah.

2 그리고 길르앗의 아내도 그에게 아들들을 낳아 주었더라. 그의 아내의 아들들이 자라자 그들이 입다를 내몰며 그에게 말하기를, “너는 우리 아버지의 집 안에서 상속받지 못하리라. 이는 네가 한 타국 여자의 아들이기 때문이라.” 하였더라.

2 And Gilead's wife bare him sons; and his wife's sons grew up, and they thrust out Jephthah, and said unto him, Thou shalt not inherit in our father's house; for thou art the son of a strange woman.

3 그때 입다가 그의 형제들로부터 도망쳤고 톱 지역 가운데서 거하였더라. 그러자 허세를 부리는 남자들이 입다에게 모였고 그와 함께 외출하였더라.

3 Then Jephthah fled from his brethren, and dwelt in the land of Tob: and there were gathered vain men to Jephthah, and went out with him.

4 ¶ 이후에 시간이 흐르면서 이러한 일이 있었으니, 암몬의 후손들이 이스라엘을 대적하여 전쟁을 벌였더라.

4 ¶ And it came to pass in process of time, that the children of Ammon made war against Israel.

5 그러자 이와 같은 일이 있었으니, 암몬의 후손들이 이스라엘을 대적하여 전쟁을 벌였을 때 길르앗의 장로들이 톱 지역에서 입다를 데려오려고 갔더라.

5 And it was so, that when the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to fetch Jephthah out of the land of Tob:

6 그러면서 그들이 입다에게 말하기를, “와서 우리가 암몬의 후손들과 싸울 수 있도록 우리의 대장이 되라.” 하였더라.

6 And they said unto Jephthah, Come, and be our captain, that we may fight with the children of Ammon.

7 이에 입다가 길르앗의 장로들에게 말하기를, “너희가 나를 증오하여 나의 아버지 집에서 나를 추방하지 아니하였느냐? 그런데 너희가 괴로움 가운데 있자 어찌하여 이제 너희가 나에게 오는 것이냐?” 하였더라.

7 And Jephthah said unto the elders of Gilead, Did not ye hate me, and expel me out of my father's house? and why are ye come unto me now when ye are in distress?

8 그러자 길르앗의 장로들이 입다에게 말하기를, “이런 이유로 우리가 지금 다시 너에게 돌이켰나니, 네가 우리와 함께 가서 암몬의 후손들을 대적하여 싸우고 길르앗의 모든 거주자들을 거느리는 우리의 수장이 되어 달라는 것이라.” 하였더라.

8 And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, Therefore we turn again to thee now, that thou mayest go with us, and fight against the children of Ammon, and be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.

9 이에 입다가 길르앗의 장로들에게 말하기를, “만일 너희가 나를 집으로 다시 데려가 암몬의 후손들을 대적하여 싸우게 하여 주께서 그들을 내 앞에 넘겨주신다면 내가 너희의 수장이 되겠느냐?” 하였더라.

9 And Jephthah said unto the elders of Gilead, If ye bring me home again to fight against the children of Ammon, and the LORD deliver them before me, shall I be your head?

10 그러자 길르앗의 장로들이 입다에게 말하기를, “만일 우리가 너의 말들에 따라 그렇게 하지 아니한다면 주께서 우리 사이에 증인이 되시기를 바라노라.” 하였더라.

10 And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, The LORD be witness between us, if we do not so according to thy words.

11 그때 입다가 길르앗의 장로들과 함께 갔으니, 백성이 그를 그들 위에 수장과 대장으로 삼았더라. 그리고 입다가 미즈페에서 주 앞에 그의 모든 말들을 발설하였더라.

11 Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and captain over them: and Jephthah uttered all his words before the LORD in Mizpeh.

12 ¶ 이후에 입다가 암몬 후손들의 왕에게 전령들을 보내며 말하기를, “네가 나와 무슨 상관이 있기에 너는 나의 지역 가운데서 나를 대적하여 싸우려고 왔느냐?” 하였더라.

12 ¶ And Jephthah sent messengers unto the king of the children of Ammon, saying, What hast thou to do with me, that thou art come against me to fight in my land?

13 그러자 암몬 후손들의 왕이 입다의 전령들에게 응답하였으니, “이는 이스라엘이 이집트에서 나왔을 때 그들이 아르논에서 얍복과 요르단에 이르기까지 나의 지역을 빼앗아 간 까닭이라. 그러므로 이제 평화로이 그 지역들을 도로 반환하라.” 하였더라.

13 And the king of the children of Ammon answered unto the messengers of Jephthah, Because Israel took away my land, when they came up out of Egypt, from Arnon even unto Jabbok, and unto Jordan: now therefore restore those lands again peaceably.

14 이에 입다가 다시 암몬 후손들의 왕에게 전령들을 보냈더라.

14 And Jephthah sent messengers again unto the king of the children of Ammon:

15 그러면서 그에게 이같이 말하였더라. “입다가 이같이 말하노니, 이스라엘은 모압의 지역을 빼앗아 가지 아니하였고, 암몬 후손들의 지역도 빼앗아 가지 아니하였도다.

15 And said unto him, Thus saith Jephthah, Israel took not away the land of Moab, nor the land of the children of Ammon:

16 다만 이스라엘이 이집트에서 올라와 광야를 통하여 홍해까지 걸어서 카데시에 이르렀을 때,

16 But when Israel came up from Egypt, and walked through the wilderness unto the Red sea, and came to Kadesh;

17 그때 이스라엘은 에돔 왕에게 전령들을 보내며 말하기를, ‘내가 너에게 간구하노니, 내가 너의 지역을 경유하는 것을 허락하라.’ 하였도다. 그러나 에돔 왕이 그 말에 경청하려 하지 아니하였도다. 그리고 같은 방식으로 그들이 모압 왕에게 전령들을 보냈으나 그는 동조하려고 하지 아니하였도다. 그리하여 이스라엘이 카데시 안에 거하였도다.

17 Then Israel sent messengers unto the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, pass through thy land: but the king of Edom would not hearken thereto. And in like manner they sent unto the king of Moab: but he would not consent: and Israel abode in Kadesh.

18 그때 그들이 광야를 통과하여 계속 가서 에돔 지역을 우회하였으며 모압 지역도 우회하여 모압 지역의 동편을 통하여 왔으니, 아르논 건너편에 진을 쳤으나 모압 경계 내부에 이르지는 아니하였도다. 이는 아르논이 모압의 경계였기 때문이라.

18 Then they went along through the wilderness, and compassed the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, but came not within the border of Moab: for Arnon was the border of Moab.

19 그리고 이스라엘이 아모리족들의 왕, 곧 헤슈본 왕 시혼에게 전령들을 보냈도다. 그러면서 이스라엘이 그에게 말하기를, ‘우리가 너에게 간구하노니, 우리가 너의 지역을 경유하여 나의 처소로 들어가는 것을 허락해 달라.’ 하였도다.

19 And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon; and Israel said unto him, Let us pass, we pray thee, through thy land into my place.

20 그러나 시혼이 이스라엘을 신뢰하지 아니하여 자기 경계를 통과하지 못하게 하였으니, 오히려 시혼은 자신의 모든 백성을 한데 모아서 야하즈에 진을 쳤고 이스라엘을 대적하여 싸웠도다.

20 But Sihon trusted not Israel to pass through his coast: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and pitched in Jahaz, and fought against Israel.

21 그런즉 이스라엘의 주 하나님께서 시혼을 그의 모든 백성과 더불어 이스라엘의 손안에 넘기셨으니, 이스라엘이 그들을 쳤도다. 그렇게 하여 이스라엘이 그 지방의 거주자들이었던 아모리족들의 모든 지역을 차지하였도다.

21 And the LORD God of Israel delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they smote them: so Israel possessed all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that country.

22 그러고 나서 그들이 아르논에서 얍복에 이르기까지 또 광야에서 요르단에 이르기까지 아모리족들의 모든 국경들을 차지하였느니라.

22 And they possessed all the coasts of the Amorites, from Arnon even unto Jabbok, and from the wilderness even unto Jordan.

23 이제 이스라엘의 주 하나님께서 그분의 백성 이스라엘 앞에서부터 그와 같이 아모리족들을 추방하셨거늘, 네가 그곳을 차지해야 한다는 것이냐?

23 So now the LORD God of Israel hath dispossessed the Amorites from before his people Israel, and shouldest thou possess it?

24 너의 신 크모시가 너에게 차지하라고 주는 곳을 네가 차지하지 아니하겠느냐? 이처럼 주 우리 하나님께서 우리 앞에서부터 내쫓으시는 자들이 누구든지 그들을 우리가 차지하겠노라.

24 Wilt not thou possess that which Chemosh thy god giveth thee to possess? So whomsoever the LORD our God shall drive out from before us, them will we possess.

25 그런즉 이제 네가 집폴의 아들, 모압 왕인 발락보다 조금이라도 나으냐? 그가 이스라엘을 대적하여 분쟁한 적이 있느냐? 아니면 그가 그들을 대적하여 싸운 적이 있느냐?

25 And now art thou any thing better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? did he ever strive against Israel, or did he ever fight against them,

26 이스라엘이 헤슈본과 그녀의 마을들과, 아로엘과 그녀의 마을들과, 아르논의 국경들을 따라 이어지는 모든 도시들에서 거한 지 삼백 년이 아니냐? 그러므로 어찌하여 너희가 그 시간 동안 그것들을 회복하지 아니하였느냐?

26 While Israel dwelt in Heshbon and her towns, and in Aroer and her towns, and in all the cities that be along by the coasts of Arnon, three hundred years? why therefore did ye not recover them within that time?

27 내가 너를 대적하여 죄를 짓지 아니하였는데도 어찌 너는 나를 대적하여 전쟁함으로써 나에게 옳지 않게 행하느냐? 심판자이신 주께서 이날에 이스라엘 자녀들과 암몬의 후손들 사이를 심판하시기를 바라노라.”

27 Wherefore I have not sinned against thee, but thou doest me wrong to war against me: the LORD the Judge be judge this day between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon.

28 하지만 암몬 후손들의 왕은 그가 그에게 보낸 입다의 말들에 경청하지 아니하였더라.

28 Howbeit the king of the children of Ammon hearkened not unto the words of Jephthah which he sent him.

29 ¶ 그때 주의 영이 입다에게 임하셨더라. 그런즉 그가 길르앗과 므낫세를 넘어 길르앗의 미즈페를 넘었으니, 길르앗의 미즈페에서 그가 암몬 후손들에게 넘어갔더라.

29 ¶ Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead, and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over unto the children of Ammon.

30 그러면서 입다가 주께 한 서원으로 서원하였으니, 이같이 말하였더라. “만일 당신께서 실패 없이 저의 두 손안에 암몬 후손들을 넘겨주신다면

30 And Jephthah vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If thou shalt without fail deliver the children of Ammon into mine hands,

31 그때 이러한 일이 일어나리니, 제가 암몬 후손들로부터 평안히 되돌아왔을 때 저의 집 문들에서 저를 맞이하려고 밖으로 나오는 것은 무엇이나 반드시 주의 것이 될 것이요, 제가 번제물로 그것을 바쳐 올리겠나이다.”

31 Then it shall be, that whatsoever cometh forth of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, shall surely be the LORD'S, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering.

32 ¶ 그렇게 하여 입다가 암몬의 후손들을 대적하여 싸우려고 그들에게로 넘어갔더라. 그리고 주께서 그들을 그의 두 손안에 넘기셨더라.

32 ¶ So Jephthah passed over unto the children of Ammon to fight against them; and the LORD delivered them into his hands.

33 그런즉 그가 아로엘에서부터 그들을 아주 커다란 살육으로 쳤는데, 심지어 네가 민닛에 이르는 데까지, 곧 포도원들의 평야까지 이십 개의 도시들을 쳤더라. 이와 같이 암몬의 후손들이 이스라엘 자녀들 앞에 굴복하게 되었더라.

33 And he smote them from Aroer, even till thou come to Minnith, even twenty cities, and unto the plain of the vineyards, with a very great slaughter. Thus the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel.

34 ¶ 이후에 입다가 미즈페로 와서 자기 집에 도착하였는데, 보라, 그의 딸이 탬버린들과 춤들로 그를 맞이하러 나왔더라. 그런데 그녀는 그의 하나뿐인 자식이었더라. 그녀 외에는 그에게 아들도, 딸도 없었더라.

34 ¶ And Jephthah came to Mizpeh unto his house, and, behold, his daughter came out to meet him with timbrels and with dances: and she was his only child; beside her he had neither son nor daughter.

35 그러자 그가 그녀를 보았을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그가 자기 옷을 찢으며 말하기를, “아, 슬프도다, 나의 딸아! 너는 나를 몹시도 실의에 빠지게 하였으며, 너는 나를 괴롭게 하는 자들 중 하나로다. 이는 내가 나의 입을 주께 열었기에 내가 뒤로 돌이킬 수 없기 때문이라.” 하였더라.

35 And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he rent his clothes, and said, Alas, my daughter! thou hast brought me very low, and thou art one of them that trouble me: for I have opened my mouth unto the LORD, and I cannot go back.

36 그러자 그녀가 그에게 말하기를, “나의 아버지여, 만일 당신께서 주께 당신의 입을 여셨다면 당신의 입에서 나온 대로 제게 행하소서. 주께서 당신을 위하여 당신의 원수들에게, 바로 암몬의 후손들에게 복수를 하셨기 때문이니이다.” 하였더라.

36 And she said unto him, My father, if thou hast opened thy mouth unto the LORD, do to me according to that which hath proceeded out of thy mouth; forasmuch as the LORD hath taken vengeance for thee of thine enemies, even of the children of Ammon.

37 그러면서 그녀가 자기 아버지에게 말하기를, “이것이 저에게 행해지도록 허락하소서. 저를 두 달만 내버려 두시어 제가 산들 위를 오르내리며 저와 저의 동무들이 저의 처녀 됨을 통곡할 수 있게 하소서.” 하였더라.

37 And she said unto her father, Let this thing be done for me: let me alone two months, that I may go up and down upon the mountains, and bewail my virginity, I and my fellows.

38 그러자 그가 말하기를, “가라.” 하였더라. 그런즉 그가 그녀를 두 달 동안 전송하였으니, 그녀가 그녀의 벗들과 산들 위에서 그녀의 처녀 됨을 통곡하였더라.

38 And he said, Go. And he sent her away for two months: and she went with her companions, and bewailed her virginity upon the mountains.

39 그리고 두 달이 끝났을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그녀가 자기 아버지에게로 되돌아왔고, 그는 자신이 서원하였던 자신의 서원에 따라 그녀에게 행하였더라. 그런데 그녀는 남자를 전혀 몰랐더라. 그런즉 그것이 이스라엘에서 한 풍습이었으니,

39 And it came to pass at the end of two months, that she returned unto her father, who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed: and she knew no man. And it was a custom in Israel,

40 이스라엘의 딸들이 매년 가서 일 년에 사 일 동안 길르앗족 입다의 딸을 애도하였더라.

40 That the daughters of Israel went yearly to lament the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite four days in a year.
