사사기 8장

1 이후에 에프라임의 남자들이 그에게 말하기를, “네가 미디안족들과 싸우러 갔을 때 너는 어찌하여 우리를 부르지 아니하여 네가 우리를 이와 같이 대우하였느냐?” 하였더라. 그러면서 그들이 그를 매섭게 힐책하였더라.

1 And the men of Ephraim said unto him, Why hast thou served us thus, that thou calledst us not, when thou wentest to fight with the Midianites? And they did chide with him sharply.

2 이에 기드온이 그들에게 이같이 말하였더라. “너희와 비교하면 이제 내가 행한 일이 무엇이겠느냐? 에프라임의 포도들을 이삭줍기하는 일이 아비에젤의 포도 수확보다 낫지 아니하냐?

2 And he said unto them, What have I done now in comparison of you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer?

3 하나님께서 미디안의 통치자들인 오렙과 즈엡을 너희 손안에 넘기셨도다. 그런즉 너희와 비교하면 내가 무엇을 할 수 있었느냐?” 그때 그가 그렇게 말하자 그를 향한 그들의 분노가 수그러들었더라.

3 God hath delivered into your hands the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb: and what was I able to do in comparison of you? Then their anger was abated toward him, when he had said that.

4 ¶ 그런 다음에 기드온이 요르단에 이르러 넘어갔으니, 그와 그의 곁에 있던 삼백 명의 남자들이 기진하였음에도 그들을 추격하였더라.

4 ¶ And Gideon came to Jordan, and passed over, he, and the three hundred men that were with him, faint, yet pursuing them.

5 이윽고 그가 숙콧 사람들에게 말하기를, “내가 너희에게 간구하노니, 나를 따르는 백성에게 빵 덩이들을 달라. 이는 그들이 기진하였고 나는 미디안의 왕들인 제바와 잘문나를 추격하고 있기 때문이라.” 하였더라.

5 And he said unto the men of Succoth, Give, I pray you, loaves of bread unto the people that follow me; for they be faint, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna, kings of Midian.

6 ¶ 그러자 숙콧의 통치자들이 말하기를, “제바와 잘문나의 손들이 지금 너의 손안에 있기에 우리가 너의 군사에게 빵을 주어야 하겠느냐?” 하였더라.

6 ¶ And the princes of Succoth said, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thine army?

7 이에 기드온이 말하기를, “그러므로 주께서 제바와 잘문나를 나의 손안에 넘기신 후에 그때 내가 광야의 가시들과, 찔레들로 너희 살을 찢겠노라.” 하였더라.

7 And Gideon said, Therefore when the LORD hath delivered Zebah and Zalmunna into mine hand, then I will tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers.

8 ¶ 그런 다음에 그가 거기에서 프누엘로 올라가 그들에게 마찬가지로 이야기하였더라. 그러자 프누엘 사람들도 숙콧 사람들이 그에게 대답한 것같이 그에게 대답하였더라.

8 ¶ And he went up thence to Penuel, and spake unto them likewise: and the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered him.

9 이에 기드온이 프누엘 사람들에게도 일러 말하기를, “내가 평안히 다시 올 때 나는 이 망대를 헐어 버리겠노라.” 하였더라.

9 And he spake also unto the men of Penuel, saying, When I come again in peace, I will break down this tower.

10 ¶ 이제 제바와 잘문나가 콸콜에 있었는데 그들의 군대들이 그들과 함께 있었으니, 약 일만 오천 명의 남자들이었으며, 전부 동방의 후손들의 모든 군대들 중 남겨진 자들이었더라. 이는 칼을 뺀 십이만 명의 남자들이 쓰러졌기 때문이라.

10 ¶ Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their hosts with them, about fifteen thousand men, all that were left of all the hosts of the children of the east: for there fell an hundred and twenty thousand men that drew sword.

11 ¶ 그리고 기드온이 노바와 욕브하의 동쪽에서 천막들 안에 거하던 자들의 길로 올라가서 군대를 쳤더라. 이는 군대가 방심하고 있었기 때문이라.

11 ¶ And Gideon went up by the way of them that dwelt in tents on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and smote the host: for the host was secure.

12 그런즉 제바와 잘문나가 도망쳤을 때 그가 그들을 추격하여 미디안의 두 왕들인 제바와 잘문나를 붙잡았으며 모든 군대를 패주시키셨더라.

12 And when Zebah and Zalmunna fled, he pursued after them, and took the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and discomfited all the host.

13 ¶ 이윽고 요아시의 아들 기드온이 해가 뜨기 전에 전투에서 되돌아왔더라.

13 ¶ And Gideon the son of Joash returned from battle before the sun was up,

14 그런 다음에 숙콧 사람들 중에서 한 청년을 붙잡아 그에게 물어보았더라. 이에 그가 그에게 숙콧의 통치자들과 그곳의 장로들, 곧 칠십칠 인에 대하여 묘사하였더라.

14 And caught a young man of the men of Succoth, and enquired of him: and he described unto him the princes of Succoth, and the elders thereof, even threescore and seventeen men.

15 이윽고 그가 숙콧 사람들에게 와서 말하기를, “제바와 잘문나를 보라. 그들로 인해 너희가 나를 질책하며 말하기를, ‘제바와 잘문나의 손들이 지금 너의 손안에 있기에 우리가 너의 지친 사람들에게 빵을 주어야 하겠느냐?’ 하였도다.” 하였더라.

15 And he came unto the men of Succoth, and said, Behold Zebah and Zalmunna, with whom ye did upbraid me, saying, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thy men that are weary?

16 그러면서 그가 도시의 장로들을 붙잡은 후에 광야의 가시들과, 찔레들을 취하여 그가 그것들로 숙콧의 사람들을 가르쳤더라.

16 And he took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and with them he taught the men of Succoth.

17 그런 다음에 그가 프누엘의 망대를 헐어 버렸고 그 도시 사람들을 살해하였더라.

17 And he beat down the tower of Penuel, and slew the men of the city.

18 ¶ 그때 그가 제바와 잘문나에게 말하기를, “너희가 타볼에서 살해한 자들은 어떤 부류의 사람들이었느냐?” 하였더라. 그러자 그들이 대답하기를, “그들도 너와 같았으니, 각 사람이 왕의 자식들을 닮았더라.” 하였더라.

18 ¶ Then said he unto Zebah and Zalmunna, What manner of men were they whom ye slew at Tabor? And they answered, As thou art, so were they; each one resembled the children of a king.

19 그러자 그가 말하기를, “그들은 나의 형제들이었으니, 곧 나의 어머니의 아들들이었도다. 주께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니, 만일 너희가 그들을 살려 두었더라면 내가 너희를 살해하지 아니하였으리라.” 하였더라.

19 And he said, They were my brethren, even the sons of my mother: as the LORD liveth, if ye had saved them alive, I would not slay you.

20 그런 다음에 그가 그의 첫 태생인 예델에게 말하기를, “일어나 그들을 살해하라.” 하였더라. 그러나 그 어린 청년이 자기 칼을 빼지 못하였더라. 이는 그가 두려워하였기 때문이니, 그가 아직 어렸던 까닭이라.

20 And he said unto Jether his firstborn, Up, and slay them. But the youth drew not his sword: for he feared, because he was yet a youth.

21 그때 제바와 잘문나가 말하기를, “네가 일어나서 우리를 처리하라. 이는 사람에 따라 그의 힘도 그러하기 때문이라.” 하였더라. 그리하여 기드온이 일어나 제바와 잘문나를 살해하였으며 그들의 낙타들의 목에 있던 장식품들도 떼어서 취하였더라.

21 Then Zebah and Zalmunna said, Rise thou, and fall upon us: for as the man is, so is his strength. And Gideon arose, and slew Zebah and Zalmunna, and took away the ornaments that were on their camels' necks.

22 ¶ 그때 이스라엘의 남자들이 기드온에게 말하기를, “당신께서 저희를 다스리시어 당신과 당신의 아들과 당신의 아들의 아들까지도 모두 그리하소서. 이는 당신께서 우리를 미디안의 손에서 구출하셨기 때문이니이다.” 하였더라.

22 ¶ Then the men of Israel said unto Gideon, Rule thou over us, both thou, and thy son, and thy son's son also: for thou hast delivered us from the hand of Midian.

23 그러자 기드온이 그들에게 말하기를, “나는 너희를 다스리지 아니하겠으며, 나의 아들도 너희를 다스리지 아니하리라. 주께서 너희를 다스리시리라.” 하였더라.

23 And Gideon said unto them, I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you: the LORD shall rule over you.

24 ¶ 그러면서 기드온이 그들에게 말하기를, “내가 너희에게 간절한 요청이 있으니, 너희 각인이 저마다 자기 전리품의 귀고리들을 나에게 주기를 바라노라.” 하였더라. (이는 그들이 이스마엘족들이었기에 금귀고리들을 자기들 편에 가지고 있었기 때문이라.)

24 ¶ And Gideon said unto them, I would desire a request of you, that ye would give me every man the earrings of his prey. (For they had golden earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.)

25 그러자 그들이 대답하기를, “우리가 기꺼이 그것들을 드리겠나이다.” 하였더라. 그러고 나서 그들이 의복을 펼쳤고 모든 사람마다 자기 전리품에서 귀고리들을 그 안에 던졌더라.

25 And they answered, We will willingly give them. And they spread a garment, and did cast therein every man the earrings of his prey.

26 이에 그가 요청한 금귀고리들의 무게가 금 일천칠백 셰켈이었더라. 이 밖에도 장식품들과 목에 두르는 장식들과 미디안의 왕들이 착용하였던 자주색 의상도 던졌으며, 이 밖에도 그들의 낙타들의 목에 둘려 있었던 사슬들도 던졌더라.

26 And the weight of the golden earrings that he requested was a thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold; beside ornaments, and collars, and purple raiment that was on the kings of Midian, and beside the chains that were about their camels' necks.

27 그리하여 기드온이 그것으로 에봇을 만들었고 그것을 그의 도시 안, 곧 오프라 안에 두었더라. 그러자 온 이스라엘이 그것을 좇아 그리로 행음하러 다녔더라. 그것이 기드온에게 올무가 되었으며 그의 집에도 그리하였더라.

27 And Gideon made an ephod thereof, and put it in his city, even in Ophrah: and all Israel went thither a whoring after it: which thing became a snare unto Gideon, and to his house.

28 ¶ 이와 같이 미디안이 이스라엘 자녀들에게 굴복하게 되었고, 그렇게 하여 그들이 자신들의 머리를 더 이상 들어 올리지 못하였더라. 그리하여 그 나라가 기드온의 날들에 사십 년 동안 평강 가운데 있었더라.

28 ¶ Thus was Midian subdued before the children of Israel, so that they lifted up their heads no more. And the country was in quietness forty years in the days of Gideon.

29 그리고 요아시의 아들 여룹바알은 가서 자기 자신의 집 안에 거하였더라.

29 And Jerubbaal the son of Joash went and dwelt in his own house.

30 그리고 기드온에게는 자기 몸에서 난 칠십 명의 아들들이 있었으니, 그가 많은 아내들을 두었기 때문이라.

30 And Gideon had threescore and ten sons of his body begotten: for he had many wives.

31 그리고 셰켐에 있던 그의 첩인 그녀도 그에게 아들을 낳았으니, 그가 그의 이름을 아비멜렉이라 불렀더라.

31 And his concubine that was in Shechem, she also bare him a son, whose name he called Abimelech.

32 ¶ 이후에 요아시의 아들 기드온이 충분히 나이들어 죽었고, 아비에젤족들의 오프라에서 그의 아버지 요아시의 돌무덤 안에 장사되었더라.

32 ¶ And Gideon the son of Joash died in a good old age, and was buried in the sepulchre of Joash his father, in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

33 그리고 기드온이 죽자마자 이러한 일이 있었으니, 이스라엘 자녀들이 다시 돌이켜서 바알들을 좇아 행음하러 다녔고 바알브릿을 그들의 신으로 삼았더라.

33 And it came to pass, as soon as Gideon was dead, that the children of Israel turned again, and went a whoring after Baalim, and made Baalberith their god.

34 그리고 이스라엘 자녀들이 주 그들의 하나님을 기억하지 아니하였으니, 그분은 사면에 있던 그들의 모든 원수들의 손에서 그들을 구출하신 분이시라.

34 And the children of Israel remembered not the LORD their God, who had delivered them out of the hands of all their enemies on every side:

35 또한 그들은 여룹바알, 즉 기드온이 이스라엘에게 보인 모든 선행에 따라 그의 집에 친절을 보이지도 아니하였더라.

35 Neither shewed they kindness to the house of Jerubbaal, namely, Gideon, according to all the goodness which he had shewed unto Israel.
